The forest was calm just after sunrise, with the sunlight no yet peircing the trees. Dewpaw stood in the shade of the trees a while, staring behind her. The old Grove holt lay back the way say came. A week had passed since she had left to return there, to say goodbye properly and assure herself that she had nothing left there. She had gone back so she could once more follow the "Way", but she was still stuck, staring at where she came from.
She then looked ahead of her, into the forest, her mind gazing at the cliffs and cove that lay beyong them. Her new home was close. A new tribe, maybe a den, maybe a family. She knew of the beach and waterfall where the others would probably be, 'with Dancer getting to know everyone and llune watching from wherever she lay, and Savith probably brooding, Blaze getting yelled at again'. At the thought, she couldn't help but laugh. She began to follow the path she had before toward the cove, the same one she had traveled on only a week ago in the opposite direction. She had returned to the "way", the "now" of wolf thought, and she knew she could move on. As she walked, her left hand entertwined itself in the brown ragged scarf around her neck. She let out an open send, not of words but of presence, to let anyone close know it was only her and not a threat. She did not feel like getting attacked by an overzealous hunter.

an overzealous hunter... perhaps if it had not been Savith out hunting. He was gliding among the treetops, searching for small game. He'd snatched one of the net bags Llune had woven for him, and had filled it with smooth river rocks. Throwing stones was a different technique from casting a talon-whip, but the aim was the same, and hitting something with a talon-whip was one of the very few things he was proud of being able to do.
The open send catches his attention from the lack of anything to throw at, and with no one around to see, his face actually broke out into a smile. The hatchling was back and safe. That was good news.
**Here,** he replied, letting his relief turn the send into a crisp summer breeze, rife with warmth. As he sent, he dropped himself lower to the ground, so that he could be found by Dewpaw.

Dewpaw grinned at the send, patting Morningtail between the ears as she walked next to him. A near empty bag swung at her shoulder. She had hunted only a little on her journey, and had little meat left in her pack. She looked up at the sky, waiting to see the flying elf appear above her. The sun was not yet high enough to sting her eyes, but she covered them anyway, still prefering the darkness of a forest canopy.
*My adopted dad, first to answer* she sent to him, sending with it her memory of calling him and Dancer "dad" and "mom". She let out a small laugh at the joke, but a bit of fear at his response could be heard. She had talked to Dancer about her sleep-induced muttering, but she had not spoken to him before she left.

Hidden by the distance, Savith's eyes widened at the reply. Her...what?! Ill at ease, the glider flew above the tree line, hoping to use the distance as an excuse for delaying their face to face meeting. Being called Dad while she was unconscious was quite different from her very coherent and straightforward use of the 'title', and it caused far too many conflicting emotions within him for his own comfort. **I was out hunting,** was all he replied, emotions now retracted from the mental contact so that all that remained were the words that none the less quivered faintly.

Dewpaw's smile became a grin, *guess I was right to beware of hunters.* She kept her eyes at the sky, although the thin canopy of the trees blocked large areas out of her sight. She spoke a moment to Morningtail, telling him to go find a ravvit to eat and meet her at the pool. She had good memory and knew she could easily find her way back. If she got lost, the scent of the others would easily guide her.
Dewpaw stopped for a moment, still staring at the sky. *I never asked you about that. What I said when I was sleeping. Dancer... she said it was funny, but I guess...* her hesitance was clear in her send *you may feel different. I mean... maybe...* she stopped her send. She didn't know if family was a touchy subject for him. She didn't mind calling another elder mother or father, but she knew she would never call another elf "brother". She was too close to her own brother to ever use the name on another.

Savith was quiet a moment, frowning as he considered his words. **...you had... lost much... I was... moved that you'd find such comfort.. if only for a moment...** But moved to what, is the question. His reply is hesitant as he again lowers himself toward the ground, and toward where Dewpaw would spot him. **I didn't find it funny in the slightest,** he added. His send had an odd undercurrent to it, one of deep seeded old memories and emotions that have simmered together so long as to be difficult to unravel at the first touch.

In true cub fashion, Dewpaw took the information in, frowning for a only a moment before a grin returned to her face. She didn't like to dwell on things, thats why she had returned to her old holt. She returned her walk, seemingly unphased by Savith's send. **I guess that means I'll just have to call you Savvy!** she sent, her childish glee flooding the send.
She had felt comfort with him and Dancer. She put it to them being the first friendly faces she saw. Or that, she had just connected them with parents, the way they talked.
**My neck is starting to hurt from looking up. Where are you?** Her send held a slightly joking tone. She had never stared at the sky all the long, she was more of an earthy elf, taking joy in the forest's plants and animals. And her neck really was starting to hurt.

Savith finished his descent, but didn't drop fully to the ground. As he made his way into view, his shoulders pulling back into a regal sort of countenance, an unwelcome memory rippled to the surface of his mind. It narrowed his eyes as he saw the cubling, another's face playing over hers in his mind's eye. With a quick jerk, he turned his face from Dew, frowning at himself, and forcing the stomach turning emotions away. **Here,** he sent, the single word taking with it only a sense of direction as he kept the rest close to his chest.

Dewpaw grinned up at Savith, glad that he wasn't mad enough to leave. **Hiya...** her send trailed off when she caught sight of Savith's face, him looking away and frowning. She gulped, again her grin falling from her dirt-covered face. She stopped for th second time, staring now at the feet. **I'm really sorry. I didn't mean too, you know.** The send was a hesistant poke, with an undertone of asking for forgiveness. She truly hadn't mean anyhing by either comment and she started wondering if it was "dad" or "Savvy" that mad him not want to look at her.

Savith schooled his features and turned back to look at Dewpaw, refraining however from making direct eye contact. **I know you didn't, and at the time, it was not offensive. It was taken in the manner it was given; a loss-striken survivor having finally found some measure of hope. Current events, however, merely struck me too near to prevent a number of unpleasant memories. I shall endeavor to prevent you from noticing in the future.** His send made it clear. Not only was he accepting the wordless request for pardon, but he felt that he need give it for it was he that was in the wrong and he that should be begging for pardon. The undertones trembled with it.

Dewpaw began to walk once more, switching her small leaf-bag from one shoulder to the other. **No harm. Not you fault** she sent with a tone of reassurment. She did see the difference between the two situations. Her feet lightly brushed the dirt as she walked. Her free hand resumed toying with the tattered scarf around her neck, both covered in dirt, making her skin appear darker. **No harm ever came from catching a fellow elf in a trap meant for a ravvit. Just a few laughs over two cooked ravvits later.** The joke ha underlying tones of apologies and forgivness, but she figured too much of that had already been done. She didn't grin this time, but a small smile played on her lips. **So did I miss anything?**

Savith quirked a brow, turning to fall in... well, not step, he was gliding... at her side. One of his ankles was just a bit thicker thant he other in a very even sort of manner, as if wrapped tightly beneath his boot. **Little has changed, save we continue to make our preparations for winter and so forth.

Dewpaw nodded absently. She knew about winter and the harshness it could bring. Her mind quickly enhanced that bit of knowledge to fit in the current situation, so soon after the Cataclysm. But her mind soon let that slip and instead focused on Savith. She noticed something when he was descending. A glance at hs ankle made her more suspicious. **Flying makes me... feel funny. Can't you walk with me instead?** she asked innocently, as if never noticing his ankle. She had seen him walk before, so she figured he had nothing against it.

Savith fought a light frown, but figured a report would be better than trying to hide it. **I broke my ankle not long ago,** He sent simply, trying to sound matter of fact. **It is still healing and still too tender for me to put much weight on it. So forgive me, but I will not walk beside you.**

Dewpaw couldn't help but giggle, but quickly held a hand over her mouth to hide it. **No need to get grumpy.** she sent back, in a mock matter-of-fact tone. **And flying doesn't make me, you know, feel funny. Still, I like my feet on the ground, or a tree branch. Them dangling above nothing...** she trailed off. She hadn't actually thought about how it'd make her feel.
