Although Kyou really wanted to avoid it, but it seemed like Raevan being completed during the process of reconstruction of the laboratory was unavoidable after all. Due to the fact that the Raevan tanks are nearly impossible to move, the reconstruction had to be done around the Raevan tanks. And it was almost impossible for Kyou to check on them everyday too, once he thought he almost died when a brick fell from above in front of him. Ah, the dangers of a construction site. The tanks had been progressively gaining layers of thick dusts too. Every time Kyou wiped it clean, the next day it'll be caked with dusts again. He really didn't bother about it after a while.
Anyways, one fine morning when Kyou was brushing his teeth, someone called from the construction site reporting about a 'disturbance' from the Raevan tanks. Swiftly putting on a simple shirt, Kyou raced to the lab's construction site, bits of toothpaste foam flying from the corner of his mouth as he ran.
And now Kyou paced impatiently at the lobby of his apartment building, expecting someone to arrive. The newborn Raevan was very bright in color, and he is quite a looker too. Kyou stared as the Raevan looked into an aquarium interestedly, tapping his fingers lightly on the glass. Approaching and reaching out a hand, Kyou brushed through his fauxhawk gently to get the last bit of dusts out as he took another glance outside again.

Ki stopped, tucking her thumbs behind her belt and rocking back onto her heels as she looked up at the building she'd been given directions to, over the phone. This wasn't a part of town she often came through--and while she was good at faking it, she felt rather out of place. Give her a seedy dockside any day. Oberon, perched easily on her shoulder, was unperturbed by the more-upscale-than-usual surroundings, and was chewing lightly on one of the many hoops that dangled from her ears.
She'd only just gotten back into port the day before, and hadn't ended up making it to her appartment, or getting to sleep, until the wee hours of the morning. While she'd been curious as to when Dr. Kyou would call her back, she certainly hadn't expected her phone to ring that first morning back in town.
Running a quick hand through her hair (nothing beat that wind-tossed look!), Ki thought about just what she was here for. It was bad enough, having to keep an eye on Oberon--what had she really been thinking, to agree to this?! What if it was completely helpless...how was she going to take care of it and pull her weight at sea, as well? Shaking her head sharply, she took a deep breath. It wasn't like her to waver, once she'd made a choice--after all, if this didn't work out, it should be easy enough to lose (or more accurately, sell) the raevan at some distant port...after all, it wasn't as though she had a very strong chance of running into this Dr. Kyou in the middle of the street. Straightening, she pressed the button, and waited to be buzzed in. Finally looking somewhat attentive, Oberon sat up straight, propping one small paw on the side of Ki's head, ears perked forward.

"Oh, there she is!" Kyou exclaimed as he went to the front door and pushed a button on the wall. The doors clicked softly as Kyou pulled it open. "Why hello there!" he greeted the woman on the steps as he smiled brightly, he recognized her from the photo he has in his files. "It's nice to finally meet you, Miss uh..." damn it, why do he have to forgot about her name right now? He always had problems remembering names, but no problem with faces. He blushed a little as he fumbled in his mind and came up with nothing. "Anyway, please come in, he's just inside." Kyou said, voice trembling a little because of the embarassment.
Meanwhile, the young Raevan perked up and looked in Kyou's direction out of curiosity, momentarily forgotten about the fishes in the aquarium.

Put more at ease by the doctor's discomfort, Ki extended her hand, careful to mind her manners. "Ki." she said it simply, the barest of smirks darting across her narrow face. Her voice was a tad rough around the edges, as if it was often used at a much higher volume. Discreetly, so as not to be noticed in doing it, Ki took a quick stock of her surroundings. Whether it was habit, or a conscious effort, even Ki was not completely sure--but experience had taught her that it was always a good idea to have a decent knowledge of the terrain, so to speak. Just in case.
In the meantime, Oberon had taken the opportunity to lean, nearly toppling himself from Ki's shoulder as he sought to undertake a more in-depth inspection of Doctor Kyou. Realizing that Ki wasn't going to oblige him by bringing him any closer, Oberon used her shoulder as a springboard, taking flight, delicate wings carrying him as he darted nimbly around Kyou, circling the doctor, expression openly curious, although he had yet to venture too close.
"He can be just a bit of a nuisance." Ki pointed out drily, the words nearly dying in her throat as her sharp gaze fell upon the bright raevan, standing--no, hovering just beside the fish tank. She froze, eyes widening in surprise.
Ki had seen a great many things, some of which would be hard to believe, if one hadn't seen the seedy underbelly of more ports than one would care to count. And still, in spite of her expecting to resent this creature, possessing of the soul of the fish that had caused her so much inconvenience...he took her breath away. Like an equisitely crafted piece of jewelry, there was something both seemingly delicate, and yet deceptively strong about him.

"Ki." Kyou repeated her name once before the butterflox darted towards his face. Shocked, Kyou stood back one step before realizing the little creature was not pouncing at his face at all. He do remember these little critters that he created just a few years back - the chimeras. It's definitely a delight to see one again though, especially of the butterflox type. Chuckling lightly, he reached out a hand to attempt to touch it. But the naughty little thing just keep circling around his head.
When he saw Kiretha's eyes fixed upon the new born Raevan, then he remembered what he was supposed to do. He could play with the little energetic chimera later. Ducking lower a little to get out of the orange chimera's flight radius, he walked up to the brightly colored Raevan and urged Ki to come forward. "Come closer!" he said excitedly.

Making a soft rumbling noise at the attention, Obe's expression of astonishment was almost comical, when suddenly the doctor shifted his attention to the raevan that had already captivated Ki.
Never one to be left out of anything, he darted towards it, sniffing at the brightly colored creature's hair, as if to ask how it was staying up.
Stepping over to where the Doctor was beckoning to her, Ki shook her head as if to clear it. She reached out one hand, tentatively, and then looked to Doctor Kyou as if to ask if that was okay, or if that was breaking some sort of unspoken taboo. It was unusual, she noted with a wry, self-directed grin, for her to be so uncertain, as opposed to just plowing forward without caring as to the consequences...but this was entirely new turf, for her, and it was one of those rare occasions where caution won out (or perhaps, if she were honest, it was awe that made her hesitate).
As her brain had a little time to catch up, she asked the first question that came to her mind. "What's...his name?" She'd taken a second, as if wondering whether they had a prescribed gender, before settling on his being a male. Somehow 'it' didn't seem like a fitting way to refer to him.
Those same fins that had first drawn her to the lionfish she'd found on the beach were there, but far more impressive--and after her last encounter with those, she was far more wary of the sting they could likely deliver.

Kyou was aware that Ki was wary, or perhaps like how people put it - shocked speechless with the newborn Raevan. He does admit that the new Frei's fins might be a little intimidating by it's looks, especially considered where they originated from. He had heard that lionfish venom can be rather deadly, though he wasn't aware of the soul capture process.
When Ki asked him the question, he cocked his eyebrows in slight amusement. It wasn't the first time someone asked the question, but it just seemed weird coming from Ki. She looked more like the strong and straight forward type, especially being a pirate herself. Kyou does background checks before handing out his precious experiments.
"He belongs to you." Kyou said. "You should be the one who decide what his name should be." he nodded, reassuring Ki.

Ki nodded, expression becoming a little less hesitant, as she eyed the raevan thoughtfully, wracking her brain. Somehow, she doubted that fish-face would be considered acceptable.
And then, as if it had been planted there, she knew what she was going to name him. Planting her hands firmly on her hips, she looked the raevan square in the eye, and spoke clearly, as if she were introducing him to some stranger (which, come to think of it, she kind've was). "Tangaroa."
Vaguely distracted by Oberon's sniffing at his hair, Tangaroa had been grinning as he watched the swift, winged fox dart to and fro. However, as Ki spoke his name, Tang's expression sharpened with interest, and he mimicked the movements of her mouth experimentally, nodding with approval a moment later. The butterflox completely out of his thoughts, he spotted a sparkle at the side of Ki's head, and reached out, neither asking (nor caring) as to whether he had her approval. He touched her many earrings curiously, lifting them, one at a time, and marvelling at the way they sparkled in the light. It wasn't so much that he'd never seen metal before, or even that he'd never seen an earring before-he'd just never seen so many, worn on one ear.
Ki hesitated, fascination giving way to unease. Her eyes remained intent on those spiney fins, a reminder of the painful sting she'd received at the hand of the lionfish whose soul had become a part of the very being that floated not five feet in front of her. Her hand hovered over one of the knives she'd worn even today, when the raevan reached toward her face. Aside from that, however, she refused to show her discomfort, even going so far as to raise one eyebrow, expression challenging.
When he did no more but to examine the earrings in her ear, she waited a moment, then reached up, tapping his inner wrist with the back of her hand. "If you like them that much, I'm sure it'd be no problem to get you a set of your own, kiddo."
...well, he didn't seem to have ears, but the thin fin-membranes that seemed to be where his ears usually would be would probably be just as easy to pierce. With one last glance at Tangaroa, followed by another, more insistent tap at his wrist, her expression hinted that he'd better be about done messing with her ears, Ki turned back to Doctor Kyou, clearing her throat.
Already, she was in waaaaaaay over her head. However, that had never stopped her before. If this...raevan was going to be some sort of overgrown toddler, she was simply going to be looking for the nearest bazaar once she got to a different port.
Some semblance of her usual devil-may care attitude returned to the fore, as she grinned. "What sort of care do these...raevans require? I mean, I can see I won't have to change diapers or anything, which is a relief..."
Discontent at being ignored, Oberon made his presence more known, making an annoyed, chittery sound as he darted back towards Doctor Kyou, as if blaming him for the fact that he'd been completely overlooked!

Kyou raised a finger and opened his mouth slightly, an indication he was about to speak, but he was interrupted by a specific flying orange object, knocking him on the side of his head. "Ooph!" was what he managed to emit. He let out a soft giggle as he caught ahold of the butterflox pawing at his face seemingly in an angry manner. Patting the little critter's head softly, he held it gently, but firmly in place as he huggled it with his other hand to his chest, ignoring it's protests.
"Tangaroa, what an interesting name! Where did it originated come from?" he asked. But the name seemed fitting somehow. "And yes, no need diapers." he chuckled at the thought. "Um, well. The only care really needed is feeding them. But they 'eat' differently from regular people. Tangaroa would probably need to feed on... tree sap? It actually depends on the fel essence used to create them." He was hesitant to mention about bugs. There was a little insect in the amber fel essence, but he wasn't sure if that also affects Tangaroa's diet. "Maybe sugar cane might work!" he suggested. "But I'm not entirely sure, you may need to experiment it out on your own."
Just as Kyou was talking, the elevator arrived on the ground floor and Lazarus came out of it. Zave had asked him to get some groceries for him since he wasn't feeling too well. He saw Kyou first in the lobby. "Oh hey Kyou! I thought where you were all morning, what are you doing h-" however, his sentence was cut short when he saw Ki and Tangaroa as he turned the corner. "Oh hello there!" he greeted, eyeing the duo curiously.

Growling in protest at being denied his ire, Oberon growled, the sound too small to be all that threatening (something he'd have been all the more unhappy about, if he could hear himself)
However, somewhat restraining attention was better than nothing, and eventually the butterflox quieted, squirming until he was slightly more comfortable, and continuing to shoot the occasional irritated glare Ki's way.
Coughing, and hiding a grin behind her hand at the byplay between the doctor and Oberon, Ki gave in a moment later, laughing outright. "He can be just a little bit ornery, when it suits him." she explained, raising an eyebrow at the energetic butterflox, as if to say that he certainly deserved what he'd gotten.
Moving on, she rocked back on her boot-heels, trying to remember just where she -had- heard the name. "I'm not sure...I originally heard it when I was on some tropical island--I guess it just stuck with me, as it was pretty unique sounding." she shrugged, as if she often couldn't remember quite where she'd heard something (or, perhaps, didn't feel a need to share it).
"So...you don't know for sure, either?" how was she supposed to make sure it didn't starve to death, without knowing what it ate?! It was sounding like a trip to the market was going to be in order, to figure it out.
She started to ask just what he'd meant, when he said that the raevans ate 'differently' than normal people, only to be interrupted by the arrival of Lazarus, who was, to make an understatement, very impressive.
Looking somewhat exasperated, Tang had finally stopped eyeing the many earrings that decorated Ki's ears. Shifting, he glanced curiously from kyou to Ki, and then shrugged, going back to exploring the lobby--after all, assuming he'd understood correcty, there would be plenty of time to learn more about his 'guardian' later.
It was at that point that the elevator door opened, revealing a raevan who was...considerably more developed, than he was. Mouth opening in a surprised 'o', he made his way over toward the white-haired male, unable to help but notice that the other seemed far more...substantial. Still not having made a sound, he stopped, reaching out as if to touch a strand of lazarus' snow-white hair. It was becoming apparent quickly that when he wanted to know something, things like asking permission were a completely alien concept, to him.
And then, finally, he spoke. "Hi." Pointing at himself, he grinned, not even hesitating. "Tangaroa." This speaking thing wasn't hard at all!
Ki recovered quickly, tucking her thumbs into her belt-loops. "Hi there." she replied, looking expectantly from Kyou to Lazarus--did the doctor have a raevan of his own? And why did this one seem to have more of its torso?

Kyou chuckled lightly at Ki's comment on the butterflox. He don't mind Oberon's little antics really, he haven't been around little animals for a while now, it definitely wasn't an unpleasant thing to have Oberon around. Tropical island eh? It really does suit the newborn Frei. He have no qualms over what the Raevan's name should be usually, so he just nodded at Ki's explanation of the name's origin. His attention however, was distracted when Lazarus entered the room.
Lazarus had not always been a feely or touchy person, and there's no exception this time either. He instinctively backed away a little when Tangaroa extended a hand to touch his hair. The younger Frei's fingers briefly brushed against a few strands of his bangs. Perhaps he felt threatened? Or maybe just plain caught off guard? He frowned then, for a split second not sure how to respond. "Tangaroa?" he just plainly repeated the other Frei's name. "Uh..." mumbling, he straighthened himself up so he won't look so pathetic. "Lazarus." he introduced himself simply, pressing a hand to his chest.
"Oh yes Lazarus!" Kyou exclaimed. Grabbing his arm, Kyou pulled him closer. "He is a more fully grown Raevan under my care." he nodded, wondering if Lazarus's more developed body would pose some questions for Ki.

Completely unperturbed by the other's obvious discomfort, Tangaroa cocked his head slightly to the side, a strand of his bright red hair falling haphazardly over one eye. Hesitating a moment, he opened his mouth again, the words slightly more hesitant, this time. "Laz..arus?" Looking thoughtful, he continued. "Nice...to meet...you." It was becoming obvious that while he understood a great deal of what he heard, speech itself was still somewhat new, and the words not as easy to find as he might wish.
In the time he'd spent finding the appropriate words, Lazarus was already a short distance away, dragged forward by the man who'd brought him here.
Fluffy tail flicking to and fro, Oberon observed the new arrival with curiosity, as distracted as everyone else. Ears pricked forward, he sniffed at the air, as if finally deigning to become curious as to what, precisely, the raevans were.
Ki looked from Tangaroa to Lazarus, noting some of the differences (at least, those aside from basic appearance--given that she'd chosen her own soul, she assumed that that explained that, at least). "Is that the reason he has...y'know...more...?" she motioned at his torso--her own lack of tact obviously a match for the aggressively curious raevan who had been placed into her care.
She did, however, refrain from touching him--she'd noticed the recoil, when Tangaroa had reached for his hair. "So...what was his essence, and soul?" This was asked with the barest of pauses, as if she wasn't quite sure how familiarly the whole process was discussed, even among other participants in the 'experiment'.
Always quick to move on, she took a small step towards Lazarus, extending one slender, callused hand in greeting. "I'm Ki."
Making his way over by Ki, Tangaroa hovered, not leaving her with a lot of personal space. As he did so, his wing-fins drifted dangerously close to her upper arm--not that he paid any attention to it.

Annoyed, Lazarus shrugged off Kyou's grip on his arm, again showing he isn't a touchy person, more so when he was being dragged around without consent. He noticed Ki's eyes on his torso then though. He know that it can be considered as attractive for some women, so at least in that category he wouldn't mind people staring, especially if they were female. As long as he can stare back at their boobs. Male is a different story.
He paused for a moment and just stared at the arm extended towards him. Although he don't really like to being touched, he know that he must show some respect. So half reluctantly, he extended his own to grab onto Ki's. "I'm Lazarus." He was at slightly glad that Tangaroa was able to pronounce his name correctly though.
Hugging Oberon with both his arms now, he observed the situation with much interest. It seemed like the newborn is learning speech pretty quickly, although maybe not as fast as some, but it's decent.
"Uhm..." he was caught off guard a little with Ki's question though, about Lazarus's soul and fel essence. Fact is, he never really told Lazarus what soul he was made of, perhaps it's a common habit of owners? He knows that Tsu is like that too. "His fel essence is the Eternal Fire." he explained, decided to skip the second part. "And yes, he had grown to the second stage - Sigel. Over time, Tangaroa will be able to grow too. Although how long it will take differs from Raevan to Raevan." he explained, trying to change the topic.
Lazarus was listening intently to the conversation going on, although the newly born Frei is pretty distracting due to it's bright colors and kick a** hairstyle. He noticed Kyou purposefully ignoring Ki's questions and changing the topic. And he had to wonder why. Never really bothered what soul he was made of, now it peaked his curiosity a bit.

Shaking Lazarus' hand firmly, Ki smiled, the expression sliding easily across her face. "Nice to meet you." She could be polite, when she wanted to. As she withdrew her hand once again, she spotted one of Tang's fins, which bobbed dangerously close to her upper arm as he hovered alongside her. Without thinking, she visibly flinched, although she quickly covered up the expression--after her last encounter with similar fins, she would take no chances with these ones. However, to show her discomfort so openly, even if she'd caught it quickly, bothered her.
Deliberately, she moved on, visibly covering her tracks adroitly. "So there's no fixed time period that they remain at each..stage of growth?" she asked after a moment, taking his cue and letting him gloss over telling her what soul the other raevan had been created from.
Cocking his head to the side, Tang blinked at the expression that crossed Ki's face. Following her gaze, he stared from her to his fins, and then back again, as if trying to figure out what it was about them that had bothered her. Perhaps fortunately for Lazarus, his puzzlement meant that he was temporarily distracted.
Wriggling slightly, Oberon made himself comfortable. When the doctor wrapped his arms more firmly around the butterflox's, Obe shifted, looking up at Kyou with interest for a moment, before leaning up to lick his chin, revelling in the attention.
Still intrigued by his guardian's recoil, Tang floated closer to her again, very obviously the sort who was going to be pushing limits as he went, especially when his curiosity was provoked. However, being that everything was so new, the way that she and the other one like him had each extended one hand, clasping the other's firmly for a moment before releasing them, had piqued his interest, as well. While he was certainly paying more attention to what was being said than it might appear, the newness of everything made it difficult for him to find any one thing that caught his interest.
Shrugging--there would be plenty of time later, to figure out just why his guardian had withdrawn so swiftly, Tangaroa turned back to Lazarus. Expectantly, he extended his hand, curious to figure out why the other had withdrawn when he'd reached out to touch his hair, but hadn't reacted similarly when Ki had offered her hand, like so.
Keeping an eye on how close the raevan was getting out've the corner of her eye, Ki cleared her throat, reaching up to brush a strand of hair out of her face. "So...his fins..are they venemous like the fish's were, or are they purely decoration?" She tried to keep her tone nonchalant, hoping that neither of them had noticed her previous moment of discomfort.

Kyou's head cocked upwards in shock a little as he felt something wet touched his chin, realizing it was only Oberon's tongue licking. He let out a soft giggle as the butterflox licked him. It would be fun if there wasn't guests around, or if Kyou wasn't on his job. Putting a hand on the fox's head, he stroke it adoringly, settling Oberon down and stopping it from licking him anymore.
He nodded at Ki concerning the time period for growths, reconfirming what he said earlier. But he had to think again when Ki asked about Tang's fins. Judging from Ki's reaction towards his fins just now - which Kyou saw, something bad probably happened to Ki in the process of capturing the soul used for the newborn Frei. Something to do with lionfish fin, which probably isn't fun. Biology wasn't Kyou's best subject, Alex or Tsu probably know more about it than Kyou does.
"I-I'm not sure actually," he replied honestly. Kyou never thought of checking Tang's fins for venom, not to mention that he lacked equipments right now to do anything of the sort. "I didn't check his fins for venom, maybe Tang wouldn't sting you if you treat him nicely?" He said, trying to offer some form of advice.
Lazarus had been listening in to the two human's conversation, as well as keeping an eye on the newborn Raevan. He was wary of him making anymore moves on him, Rivener's actions when he was a newborn haunts him still. When Tang offered him a hand though, he looked at it hesitantly for a moment. It doesn't seem possible that there was any trick to this, the newborn is probably not so smart yet either. Carefully and slowly, Lazarus extended a hand to grab on Tang's hand too, giving him a firm but slight shake before withdrawing.
