Nyctosaurus is a pterodactyloid pterosaur from the Cretaceous that presumably lived all the way through to the great dinosaur extinction. Their most notable feature, the large sail atop their heads, was once used as a giant rudder to help them navigate the vast seas of the past.
Nyctosaurus is the only pterosaur to have lost its clawed "fingers", with the exception of the wing finger, which is likely to have impaired its movement on the ground, and made climbing cliff sides impossible. Because of this, these animals tend to stay airborne the majority of the time.
In terms of care, Nyctosaurus is fairly easy to maintain. They do require a steady diet of fish and other soft-bodied marine life, though by nature they are opportunistic and will eat whatever they can find. Because they spend so much time in the skies, they also do not require large land enclosures, though appropriately sized aviaries are extensively large.
Nyctosaurus is not considered a very threatening species to man. Their main weapon, the large and powerful beak, can be potentially harmful; however, it is also very fragile, and most individuals will not risk a break.
