If you're reading this review, you're probably already interested in the Gran Turismo series. So I'll spare you the trouble of having to skim over my glowing praise of the super-realistic graphics, amazing physics engine, and awesome list of licensed cars. What I WILL say is that everything that makes Gran Turissmo great is present in GT5 razz rologue. However, because it is not a fully fledged entry into the GT series, its playability is lacking. It is, in every sense, just the merest taste of what is to come when the real GT5 hits stores a year or two from now.
You probably already know what's wrong with the game: short, not enough cars, not enough tracks. However, Prologue has alot of content to make hardcore fans very happy they at least decided to rent it for a while. My particular favorite new addition: the ability to race INSIDE the car you're using. This may not seem like a big deal at first, but once you experience tearing around the Daytona Oval at 160 MPH in your Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe, glancing at the speedometer on the dashboard and really FEELING how low to the ground you are... well, there was no going back for me.
Another great addition is GTTV. It offers all kinds of viewing content for the speed freak in all of us. The three part series on the development of the Nissan GT-R is a particularly fascinating watch.
The online battles are also a great upgrade, but don't work as smoothly as would be ideal. Also, the lack of any way to meet up with your friends to race makes it all seem rather... tacked on. This, however, is really just a small complaint, as Gran Turismo has always been (and hopefully will always be) about the singular experience of seeing what your favorite car can do when let loose. And their is plenty of that experience here to go around.
