Symphony was humming as she skimmed the lake with a wing, dipping so close to the surface she could feel the tiny droplets hit her legs. She laughed with delight, and dropped fully into the lake, hurtling down like an arrow towards the bottom. She did a couple loops, using her tail as a rudder, and broke the surface. She loved a good morning swim. She headed towards shore, and trotted onto the rock. She gave herself a good shake, and got most of the water off her feathers and coat. She sang a couple high notes, loving how the sound reverberated off the still rippeling lake, and the rocky cliffs that surrounded it. Once she found the pitch she wanted to use, she began to sing, softly at first, letting the clear sound fill the air as a soft undertone.

Tylir stood partially submerged in the cool lake, using the hot summer say as a perfect excuse to bath in the refreshing water. The water at the base of the mountains was always the coolest anyway. He dipped his head into the water and flicked it back, shaking the water through his mane and fluffling his wings to splash his back.
After one particularly satisfying dunk, Tylir pulled his head out of the water to be greeting by a beautiful sound drifting on the wind. His ears flicked forward, listening. A high, smooth, beautiful sound. He shook his wings dry and launched himself into the air, flying in languid loops, idly searching for the source.

Symphony's song grew stronger, and after one particularly loud crecendo, she toned it back down to a soft melody, and traced a pattern in the sand with a wing tip. Then she faded off all together, listening to the sudden silence that filled the air. Silence didn't bother her, instead it presented posibilities. She shook the last of the water out of her mane and tail, and gently preened the primary feathers on her wings. She sang a soft childs song as she preened,
"One little wind, perched on the nest, spread his wings, ready to fly, ready to impress the rest.
Two little winds, perched on the nest, spread their wings, ready to fly, ready to impress the rest."

A shadow flickered into Symphony's light, then again a few moment later as Tylir tightened his loops above her. "Hello little lady," he crooned as he landed on the rock next to her, the small space giving him a convenient excuse to stand closer to her than he normally would to a mare he just met. "You're voice... it's heavenly."

Symphony ducked her head and blushed, stopping her preening. Since she usually stayed away from others, this was one of the rare times she had been complimented on her voice. She folded her wings in, and tried to hide her tail. She was a mutant, but less so than other mutants. She noticed how close he was, and grinned inside. She said, "Thank you, I really do thank you for that." She gave the newcomer a once over, and was delight to see that he was a wildlife songbird himself. She burst out excitedly, "You're a robin, right? I'm a song sparrow." She was extatic. She had never hoped that she would meet another songbird, it had been too much to hope.

Tylir's eyes drifted over her body, if he noticed the tail, he certainly didn't say anything. "A robin? Oh!" He flipped his curly mane and fluffled his wings. "I suppose you could say that.... my sister and I, we've always looked like them, yes." He pawed at the rock with his hoof and frowned a bit. "Never new my real parents, though, so I don't know if there's a significant reason why."
He looked her over again, this time his eyes lingering on her tail and one of his eyebrows raised a bit in curiosity. "You even have a tail like one."

Symphony was rattled that he noticed her tail, it was one of the things about her that scared some soquili, that she was a mutant. She shuffled her hooves on the ground, and said in a small voice, "Yes, I have a tail like one, its a gift, and a curse." She pricked her ears as he mentioned he never knew his family. She had never met her parents, and if she had any siblings, she didn't know of them. She brought herself back to the present, and was pleased to see that he didn't seem freaked out by her tail, so she felt safe enough to say, "Its helpful for flying, I can use it as a rudder."

There was no sarcasm in his voice when he asked "Why a curse?" His smile was genuine and his gaze curious. He craned his neck to the sky and watched a few birds chase each other through the sky. His tail flicked back and forth behind him whimsically. "Do you think we're related?" He put his gaze back down onto Symphony. "Ya know, like directly?" After a pause, "To the birds, I mean."

Symphony thought a moment, and said simply, "Because it marks me as a freak, a mutant." She followed his gaze to the sky, and then to the birds in it. She was startled at his 'related question' then laughed at herself when he clarified, and said in return, "I don't think we're related directly, but there is a connection of some kind. Be it by our DNA, or some sort of cosmic bond that no one can explain. But there is a connection there." Tylir was definatly not an airheaded wind like some others she had met.
