So I'm not sure which forum this should go in, so please move it if it's in the wrong one.
Okay, so I've been having problems with my firefox for awhile now. It won't do anything but just say "Problem Loading Page." and "Unable to Connect."
It recently updated itself to Firefox 3.0 and that's about when it stopped working.
If anyone has any helpful hints I'd be very appreciative. Also, I'm using windows XP and have windows firewall.

No other browser works other than I.E-- firefox, safari, opera, netscape. I also can't download adobe flash player or active x control which it says I need first to download flash player. And I can't get zone alarm to download either. SO MANY PROBLEMS!

FLASH PLAYER A BETCH BUT ALLOW TOOTSIE TO WALK YOU THROUGH IT.
1. Go to the site they give you, it should say something about downloading and having the browser closed. 2. So what you do is that you click and download (download window should open; DON'T CLOSE IT). 3. Double-click on the file thing you just download (in the download box). 4. IMPORTANT! Don't press next yet. Close FireFox first and then press next. 5. All done. Any questions?

I had a similar problem. It was the firewall. ...I don't know how to fix it, since that day we were going to format my harddrvie. (this computer was my brothers before, and had a lot of missing space) But check your firewall.

Did Firefox work before you upgraded to 3.0?
Also, Fort may very well be right... either because you "changed" the program (upgraded firefox) it may think something happened, or it was never cleared to begin with... and the firewall may be nabbing it...
And Zone Alarm is great! ^_^
Also, double check your antivirus, it may be restricting firefox (among other things), thinking, like I said before, that it's infected or something...
Also, are you behind a corporate proxy? I mean, I know this is probably no, but I've got to ask... as IE may be set up for something, and firefox and the others aren't...
However, by the fact that you have 'net access in IE, you don't have to worry about connection issues, only software issues... o.o

Tootsie-- I can't use that method because Firefox doesn't work. Is it the same for IE?
Fort-- We have tried running the app with the firewall OFF but it still doesn't want to load.
Sibby-- So earlier in the day, it had said something like "Firefox will upgrade to 3.0 next time it opens" and then I put my computer on sleep and went to work. When I got home about 3.5 hours later, Firefox would not work. I restarted my computer, and it installed 3.0. Still nothing.
So if it is the firewall, how would I go about getting around it? Also, I know zone alarm is great, I had it on my computer till we had to reinstall the OS, and it won't re-install itself-- it says it can't find the right plugin or something like that.
I don't know if I'm behind a corporate proxy... what is a proxy again?

Mkay... well, to see if it's the firewall, turn it off
(start -> connect to -> show all connections -> right click the connection you use to get to the net and click properties -> advanced tab -> settings button (for firewall) -> turn it off
if it starts working, then you'll need to get back to the same "window" as described above, but then click on the "exceptions" tab, and make sure firefox is selected as an exception
If it doesn't.. then that's not the problem...
And, you'd probably know it if you were behind a proxy, but I had to ask, as sometimes you've got to tell browsers the settings they need to use for this... but you shouldn't need to worry about this...
And maybe you need to redownload zonealarm? o.O( )
Also, you might want to consider temporarily "downgrading" firefox, to see if that helps... firefox 3 isn't exactly all that "tried and true" o_o
and have you had a look at any antivirus/antispyware programs you may have? I know for a fact that spybot (common, good one) will actively prevent certain programs from accessing the net, if somethings fishy... maybe something like this targeted firefox? o.O
This is a hard one... ._.( )

How about system restore? I always use that when I end up with something weird happening on my computer and it usually helps.
You can find it under control panel in the start menu. In this order: Start -----> Control Panel (on right) -----> Performance & Maintenance in that window -----> under 'See Also' on the left you should see the words System Restore ----> click on that and a window will pop up.
Then on that window you should see options to restore to an earlier time. You should click on the "System Restore Settings" on the left to make sure it's not turned off, because if it is off it won't work. Either way make sure there isn't anything checked in the box that says "Turn off System Restore"
If it works choose "restore to an earlier time" and click next, then just pick a date from before you had that problem, next, then finish and let your computer restart.
Hope that this is somewhat helpful.
