Rune woke up from a vivid dream. He was running alongside with Chouko, his love, towards a setting sun and a small island. He felt joy in his every step, and love for his mate.
Rune shook his head, clearing the thought. He looked over at Chouko who was sleeping peacefully by his side, her soft fur rising and falling with every breath she took.

Feeling Rune shift beside her Chouko grumbled and rolled over, trying to get in a few more minutes of her nap. She had been having such a nice dream, but she couldn't really remember what it was about except for the fact Rune was in it.
Chouko finally sighed and rolled back over, certain that she would be unable to go back to sleep. She really didn't need to nap so long anyway. 'Any idea how long we were asleep' she mumbled sleepily while trying to shake herself fully awake.

"I thought you knew." Rune yawned, trying to remember more his dream. "Apparently we both fell asleep," he said, nuzzling her. "I thought you said your energy could keep you going," he teased a little. Sitting back on his haunches, he smiled at the thought of his dream but focused all his attention on Chouko.

Chouko huffed indignantly. 'I only decided to take a nap so you wouldn't feel like the lazy one you really are' she grumbled sticking her tongue out at Rune 'I was being considerate.' She turned and looked at the setting sun. 'It's getting kind of late I guess, but it's not too bad. Night can be even more fun than the day' she said turning back to Rune and smiling at him 'Looks like all the butterflies are gone though.'

Rune smiled, glad that Chouko was still her usual self. "Nope, not all of them. There's still one left, and she's sitting right beside me." He smiled mischeviously at her, showing her that he meant that she was as beautiful and elegant as a butterfly. "The setting sun reminds me of my dream," he murmured randomly.

Chouko's eyes widened slightly and a slight blush tinged her cheeks. 'O-oh really?' She averted her eyes to the side slightly and a small smile appeared on her face. She was very pleased that Rune, who she thought was very intelligent and intuitive, viewed her in such a way. 'Well, you know it's a bad omen to see a butterfly at night right?' she giggled teasingly.
'Your dream?' Chouko took another look at the beautiful sunset that painted it's way across the sky. 'It is the kind of sunset you'd see in a dream. Beautiful in an unfathomable way' she sighed dreamily. 'Do you remember anything about your dream?' she asked turning inquisitive eyes on Rune.

"Oh, really? I don't believe in superstitions and omens, but if you certainly haven't brought any bad luck here," Rune replied.
He turned around to watch the sunset with Chouko, and thought before answering her question. "Not much, just that there was a sunset just like this and an island covered in mist. You were with me," he added.

'You were dreaming of me?' Chouko giggled teasingly. After a moment she sobered up and put on a thoughtful frown 'An island of mist... was it a scary place? I think I might have had a dream like that too. I don't remember being afraid. I do remember thinking you'd watch out for me and protect me. Like a brave and gallant knight.' Chouko turned to look at Rune before turning a bright red 'O-of course it was just a silly dream. You'd probably fall asleep or something instead of fighting off monsters. Eheheh.' she finished lamely, laughing nervously.
'I really need to stop being such an airhead and saying stupid things' she thought to herself.

"Of course," he replied. "Who else would I dream of?" After Chouko asked the rest of her questions, he laughed softly and replied. "No, it wasn't. It was very peaceful and serene, like paradise. And I would watch out for you, for you are my beautiful princess." He licked her cheek, smiling. "I probably would fall asleep," he said.

Chouko blushed and smiled prettily, 'Peaceful huh? You and me on a peaceful island watching the sunset? It sounds really nice. Do you think a place like that really exists?' 'If I am a princess then I guess you can be my prince and if anything bad happens you must come and save me. No falling asleep on the job.' she giggled before returning the lick.
Chouko turned toward some trees in the distance for a moment and thought she saw a light flicker briefly. The sun had almost completely set at this point and darkness was quickly coming in. 'Hey Rune, did you see that?' she asked not taking her eyes from the spot.

"Maybe." He shrugged. "I'll try my best to not fall asleep."
Rune turned and looked where Chouko was staring, and squinted. He saw a quick flash of light and asked, "The flash of light?"

'Yeah, it happened so quickly I wasn't sure it happened at all, but I doubt we're both seeing things. What do think it is?' Chouko asked turning to look at Rune who was squinting into the darkness.

Rune shook his head. "I have no idea," he said. "I personally think we should follow it, but then again, we have no idea where we would be going. On the other hand, if we don't go, my curiosity will plague me for the rest of my life. What do you say?"

Chouko nodded her head excitedly, her tail wagging like crazy. 'I was hoping you'd say that! I'm quite the curious Gladier myself, but I didn't want to go alone' she turned and looked into the trees. 'Looks like it gets kinda thick. We better stay close together, don't get lazy now! Come on!' with that she winked at Rune before taking off for the place the light had flashed briefly before, but she didn't go too fast because she wanted Rune to catch up before she got to the rather creepy looking trees.

"Alright, wait up!" Rune called as Chouko ran past him. He walked at a moderate pace, not wanting to use too much energy just in case they had to make a quick escape. Soon, the darkness started enveloping him.
