It had been a day like every other day. Alone, wandering through "his" forest, Cobalt had felt more glum than ever. Feeling exiled from all others simply because of the circumstances of his birth, he had left the company of the other Soquili, preferring to spend his days alone. However, he hadn't been alone. Most days he met someone knew, and they either attacked him, intrigued him, or befriended him. And even though he was never truly alone, he felt alone in spirit. No matter how many friends or enemies he made, he was lonely.
And he didn't know why.
Perhaps it was because none of the friends he made were true friends. Or perhaps he was distant with them. Or perhaps it was a combination of both. More than likely, though, it was his moodiness, his unending bitterness, a black hole in his soul, leeching out all friendly or kindly feeling. But of course, that bitterness was why he had left home. Because he could no longer stand his herdmate's pitying glances, their soft smiles, their kindly demeanors. He had determined not to return home until the bitterness had subsided.

The night was a beautiful thing; a delicate cresent moon hung woven into the heavens among the thousands of stars that never ceased to sparkle. Soft breezes gently rustled the trees, weaving a soft lullaby for those resting within the depths of the forests. Those who walked the moonlit hours kept to the shadows, eyes glimmering for a spare second before vanishing again.
Yet, despite the movements, this remained a moment frozen in time.
Brilliant, neon-blue eyes stared at the moon hovering above her as delicate golden hooves continued to move through the clearing. This place was unknown to the young filly, and could have been filled to the brim with danger. But, in her mind, it also brought forth a new chance of exploration...considering her family never stayed in one place for too long. As she walked, Nakia closed her eyes and smiled as a cooling breeze ruffled her gold/blue mane and silvery wings. Soft humming whispered past her lips, the need to sing growing strong in her heart.
A precious gift given to her by her gentle father and distant Grandpapa.
Stopping, the silver filly lifted her head towards the starry sky and, without opening her eyes, began to sing:
I know that you're hiding things Using gentle words to shelter me Your words were like a dream But dreams could never fool me Not that easily
As she sang, the trees rustled softly; they added music to the soft melody, yet did not hinder or overshadow the child's song...
I acted so distant then Didn't say goodbye before you left But I was listening You'll fight your battles far from me Far too easily

...Singing?
Who would be singing this late at night? Cobalt didn't know, but he decided to find out. Whoever it was, they'd attract all the suspicious characters, and Cobalt couldn't let one with such an angelic voice be harmed by one of those ruffians. That just wouldn't do.
Stumbling through the undergrowth in his rush to protect the owner of that voice, he tripped over a vine, flew ungracefully through the air, and landed, his legs splayed, in a patch of ferns, covering himself with broken bits of their leaves, and collecting a good quantity of twigs in his mane and tail. Picking himself up with difficulty, he proceeded towards the voice more carefully, so as not to injure himself again.
As he approached the voice, he was startled to find that the owner of the voice was only a filly! Not only that, but she was alone. That was dangerous, but it was especially dangerous at night. He wanted to go to her, and escort her home, but Cobalt knew he would frighten her, as he was scary to begin with, and he was a mess of twigs and leaves at the moment. He couldn't bear frightening a filly...they were so young, so innocent. He decided to watch her from the shadows, where he could stay invisible, and reveal himself only if necessary.

Nakia gently broke off the song with a soft yawn before shaking out her mane. She pawed at the soft ground before taking a good look at her surroundings. Shadows clung to the trees around her, never shifting save for when the moon hid behind the few clouds lingering in the sky.
Wings rustling slightly, she snorted and started moving at a light trot as a silvery-white feather pulled free and drifted down to rest on the leaf-covered ground. Nakia thought it best to go back to where her family was resting for the night; normally, it was easy to make out her mother's firely mane against the blue/black of the night but.....
Stopping, she shifted uneasily before starting at a sharp rustle nearby. It sounded like something had landed in the brush...something big....Nakia prayed to the gods that it WASN'T that mean Kalona filly with the glowing eyes or her mother...Bulking up courage, the silver filly called out to whomever was there.
"Um.....E-excuse me?" Her ears swiveled around, looking for any sound that might show approach or retreat. "Is someone there?"

Drat it all! Outed by his own clumsiness. Cobalt frowned, wondering whether to expose himself or not. He decided to risk it, pulling his wings tight against his body, even attempting to hide his skull wings in his twig cluttered mane. Maybe she wouldn't see them, and thus wouldn't be afraid.
Stepping out into the moonlight, he spoke, his voice as gentle and soft as he could make it. "I hope I didn't startle you with my fall...I tripped, you see." He kept his shadowy blue eyes low, knowing that they too were unusual, although perhaps not as scary as the wings he kept pinned to his back.
He did wonder who she had thought it was. Her voice had shaken, so she was clearly remembering someone unpleasant. Perhaps those that roamed the darkness had encountered her already, and he was too late to protect her. No, that was nonsense. If a Kalona or a Skinwalker had found her, she would be mincemeat by now.

An adult?
He didn't look like a Kalona. (Thankfully, it hadn't been who she was thinking of) Plus, his voice was soft: like a father speaking to his child. Warm and gentle....
Eyes bright with child-like curiousity, Nakia stepped closer to the elder Soquili so she could get a better look at him. His dark coat blended almost perfectly into the shadows around them, yet soft slivers of silver flickered into view. The thing that caught her attention the most was the bracelet he wore, along with the earring that rested against his cheekbone.
"Good Evening, Mister." She smiled as her neon eyes flickered between his unique markings and the adornments he wore. Yet, there was something off....she just couldn't put her hoof on it.....
"Sir, if I may, did something happen?" She motioned towards the leaves and twigs stuck in his mane. A playful smile touched her lips. "Did you have a bad landing?" She giggled. "Papa does that sometimes too."

She was so small...whatever was she doing out here by herself? It was dangerous!
He tried his best not to stiffen as she approached. What if she saw his wings, his fangs? Thankfully, she seemed not to see them, although she did give him an odd sort of look. Hopefully she would not look any closer at his back.
"Well...sort of." Cobalt admitted, dipping his head down towards her a tad. "I was running through the forest, and I failed to see a vine...needless to say, it tripped me, and I crash landed in a bed of twigs and ferns." Curse that vine. It blew his cover. Stifling his desires to murmur unhappily about the vine, Cobalt failed to notice his wings slowly loosing themselves from his back, protesting against how tightly he had held them. His skull wings, too, were beginning to peek up from his skull, although those were still mostly concealed by his tangled, twig scattered mane.
Now that he was actually speaking to her, he got a chance to look her over a bit more. A slender little thing, with soft silver coloring, bright blue eyes, and gold Egyptian markings on her back. Cobalt wondered yet again why she was out here alone. Stifling a shiver, he thought of the predators that could be on their way towards them. Her song had carried far...
