Home Life : Xavier was born to Thomas Harker and Nicole Demont, two hopeless romantics who fell totally and unconditionally in love in their early twenties. Unfortunately, like many hopeless romantics, their "total and unconditional" love lasted about 3 1/2 years after their marriage, leaving two-year old Xavier in the middle of a vicious divorce. In the end his parents agreed to having the boy live with his father, a ministry worker in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, in Ballycastle, Ireland most of the year and living with his mother, the hostess of a popular radio show in southern France, in Lyon, France over the summers.
Diving deeper : Xavier's personality is that of a gifted, carefree slacker; a boy who was blessed with natural intelligence and wits, but is typically hopelessly inept at putting these skills to good use. The majority of the time he can be found sitting on the sidelines, observing the situation while occasionally making snide or sarcastic remarks without actually intervening. Due to this lack-luster amount of motivation, Xavier regularly receives rather poor grades on the majority of his school work, with the sole exceptions being the Care for Magical Creatures and Herbology, which, after years of accompanying his father to his job at the ministry, he has taken intense interest in. However, above all else, the one characteristic that comes to mind when discussing Xavier Harker is an intense, unending loyalty to those he considers close friends. Though he'll never admit it, he secretly fears that the stress his birth induced onto his parents relationship is what fueled their divorce, and is afraid they may blame him for their splitting up. Due to this fear, he is incredibly appreciative to the friends that are close to him, and will repay their kindness by blindly defending them from any abuse, regardless of the situation.
Taking a closer look : Xavier couldn't help but smile as he heard the waves of the lake gently lap against the bank a few feet from where he lay, happily remembering the countless carefree days like this one back home in Ballycastle, when he sit on the cliffs near his home where he would watch the ocean calmly assault the edge hundreds of feet below.
The sun rarely shone as brightly there as it does here though, he thought, frowning at the thought of his fair complexion being baked by the unforgiving rays of the sun. Reluctantly, he opened his eyes, only to be assaulted by a barrage of blinding, unforgiving light, forcing him to blink several times to avoid spots from clouding his vision. While doing this, however, he noticed that something in his surroundings was quite clearly off, though his mind was slow to recognize exactly what that was. Casting a quick glance around, though, he could find nothing amiss. The lake was still quite serene, the sun shined clearly overhead, and a calm, refreshing breeze had begun to blow over the grounds.
Wait, how can the sun already be..., he thought, his mind finally putting the pieces together as he worriedly looked back up at the flaming orb that lit the sky. It was far to high to be the early morning it was when he had first come out onto the grounds. In fact, it was far to high to be morning at all, as it was easliy in the range of being noon or later. He had quite clearly missed his first class, and was most likely well into missing his second.
Oh well, he thought with a sigh, casually moving towards a shadier part of the lakes edge, lying back down onto the cool grass and once again shutting his eyes, If I'm gonna slack off, I might as well do it consistently....
