.... so, I know this is becoming more "normal" but I need to vent...
So a year ago my pap came back abnormal, Low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL). But as ya'll (well most of you) know I was living in Korea and not active military (or married to active) so I didn't have any sort of priority at the clinic so they could never "fit me in" to the schedule to get the follow, a colposcopy and biopsy. So I never got in to the clinic, now a year later I'm living in OK and I've finally been able to get another pap done.
Real quick -- for those that don't know a colposcopy is when they use a microscope to look up *you* then they "paint" the inside of *you* with vinegar to stain the cells, if they cells turn white they are the "bad" ones. They if there are any clusters they "pinch" out a bit (this is the biopsy) -- this is supposed to be _really_ painful...
Oh! And LSIL is "some bad cells."
Ok, so I wasn't able to get in for the follow up in Korea so then a year later I get to OK and I think, "mm I should go get another pap done" -- you have to start w/ the pap, and sometime things "clear up" so I figured I'd just see what happens.
While I was in there, it was a lady-docter... I don't really like going to ladies... the men are much more, how do you say, gentle?. Women will just put on some gloves and SHOVE their hands up you, a guy is more likely to warm up the instruments and is much more -careful-. Anyway, it's a lady and she talks all the way through it, THEN (and this is the best part) decided to draw me a picture. This is how this went:
doc: So, I'm gonna draw you a picture about pap smear, 'cause I'm a visual learner and I just think people understand pictures better, k?
me: k.
doc: so this is the line (draws) --------- on this side is normal (draws) N --------- on this side is cancer (draws) N --------- C
me:....k....
doc: and there are five stages, ASCUS, SIL, LSIL, HSIL, and CIS (this is called cancer in sight) then cancer. (draws) N-A-S-L-H-CIS-C see? .... .... .... me: ... yea....
Yea. So basically I get from that, that I am half way to cancer! I mean, I know that's not what she meant to show me, but OMFG! ya know?!
Anyway, I got my results today, they came back LSIL so I have to go in for a colposcopy.
I'm TERRIFIED! I've heard som really horrendous stories about the pain of the biopsy. Not to mention I probably have some cancer-issues to deal with, ya know?
They said they'll be working on getting me in (again I don't have much for priority but it should happen w/n the next month or so)...
So my question to all of you -- have you done the "colposcopy and biopsy"-thing? Does it hurt??

I'm sorry darling. I haven't gotten anything like that before. I'm 27 and got my first pap smear of my life in Feb. and it came back normal. My doctor was like "wow, most people don't get to 25 without a pap-smear but it's not unheard of."
my heart goes out to you, darling. take care.
I'll be thinking of you.
