Just thought I would say hi to everyone on here while I await my character submission to be approved. I hope to adventure with you all at some point (or be DMed by) and to overall have a lot of fun!

Hey there Whalehunter, welcome. I see you've been waiting for a little bit, sorry about that, I PM'd a couple of our GM's so hopefully you should have this resolved by today. It has been a little while since we had a new member. I'm actually pretty new here myself, but from what I've seen everyone on the guild is friendly, and pretty good at this. So in the mean time you can read some of the old threads, or posting here is also cool.

I will try to answer your question about the Illuminati device, if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will step in here and correct me. This is the rule as posted in the new player forum: Eye of the Illuminati: (E1) May learn any single spell used upon you by an opponent in (non PvP) combat by defeating that opponent with your Magic. Opponent cannot have received damage from any other source, including itself. (Organization Item)

Basically what that means is that it takes up one equip value on you and must be equipped to be used. You must also be a member of that organization to have it I believe.

P.S. You're from the UK huh? Cool, I have been to London myself several years ago, it was a lot of fun.

Thanks for that, yeah been itching to join up with people on a quest.
I have been looking at a few of the old threads, I have seen you around the place quite a bit in fact I read the challenge you took on particularly, it looked fun that you basically killed everything in a single combat round xd .

Thanks for the info about the organisation device it functioned as I thought it would. The equip stat is still a bit of a mystery of why you would bother with it to me (For stat boosting items at least) as if I wanted a +4 magic amulet I could just as easily bung on 4 points into Magic as opposed to equip... only worth it for the special items I suppose.

Special items are a big reason for having equip slots, as well as temporary items like potions and elixirs. But, I think the biggest reason someone might opt for an equip stat and a buff item over putting a lot of points in a stat is the versatility that you could have. For instance, if I have an equip of 4, I can use an armor piece that gave me +4 to my defense. But next dungeon there are lots of defender types but few with high magic stats, you can switch out your gear and make yourself a better magic user with a +4 magic item, or another combination of +1 armor and +3 damage weapon. This way you can be useful in a lot of different scenarios. But there is also validity in just having high stats, I myself chose to go that direction. But the nice thing about this system is it allows you to make the choice to build either way, so you get characters with surprising diversity in design.

As for the tournament, as soon as you have your character approved you can get a GM's attention and start your own tournament right away if you like. It's a great way of earning a few character enhancing rewards, and you get individual attention from a GM to boot.

Welcome to the guild. I see we have another high damage mage type. Hehe I'll have much to teach you^^ If you want to do the tournament I would suggest pming Perrian as Hierophant is pretty busy atm. However it would be my advice that you hold off on the tournament until you earn a few more CP. But If you want to jump into it then go ahead and have fun.

I think I will need some more CP before attempting to go solo. Something I have been wondering though, with magic damage I know that the spells do X amount of damage or X times your magic score but is that flat out un-adjusted damage? (unlike attack is reduced by defense)

I have seen the odd skill that reduces magic damage, is that the only things that reduce it or did the defense stat play a part in magic damage reduction that I didn't see?

Magic is not affected by defense. That’s pretty much magic’s advantage over attack; attack can be used for actions and attacking and can be used with the “Team Up” rule, but magic is much harder to prevent the damage from and with a good range of spells it is much more diverse then actions. Actions can do pretty much everything that magic can do but most actions are going to be spread out amongst several stats. If you want to prevent damage with an action you are most likely going to need defense (most damage stopping actions use your defense stat) while damage dealing ones use attack and ext. But magic has spells that deal damage, heal, stop damage, stun and they all use the same stat.

By the way, I’m FARGORE the owner and manager of the guild. You again have my apologies for not accepting your character sooner. I’m often buys as of late but I think I have gotten much better about posting recently (started the Emu event and have been doing well with it).

Remember that you can try the tournament again after you have completed three quests so if you do it right now you can give it another try once you have finished three quests and are more powerful.

And welcome to the guild, I hope you have fun.
