I saw this recently with my gf at a drive-in theater. n.n it was followed by "wanted", which was somewhat less entertaining.
I love Del Toro's visual aesthetic and monsters. n.n I liked the humor that felt natural and authentic. It wasn't all overly serious or stiff and forced like most superhero movies these days. I didn't care for the romantic subplot though. I kept thinking "why are these two together? x.x" also thought there was a bit of a plot hole/character inconsistancy vis a vis Abe.

Prehaps they were far enough into there relationship that they didnt need to justified it. If that makes sense. Presonally i liked the fact that the relationship was more of a subplot, i get tired of every movie having a romantic story somewhere in the plot. Does every female and male have to fall in love.

Ok, I may be stepping on some toes...but first off...I am not a comic book fan so I know little of how the actual Hellboy series goes. Secondly, I just didn't like the movie. It was a little too silly for my taste. This again my be biased because I had just seen The Dark Knight a few hours prior...and that was 70 million ways of awesome. lol Don't get me wrong...Hellboy was fun and had some laughs and cool stuff in it. Just...silly and a bit on the pointless side. It felt like fanservice. "Ok, guys! Lets make something with the overall drama content of the volume of a thimble and put our fav charies in it and some flashy special effects and CG sequences and call it a day!" But I must say...it's not like other comic book movies haven't screwed up worse or done the same thing. I'm looking at you Spiderman 3. But what I am saying is that I paid 8.50 a piece for my dad and I to see it last night at 10pm. And I kind of wished I had waited until I could get it on video and sit at home with him and a bag of microwave pop corn and enjoyed it that way. Either that or see the Dark Knight again! *squee*

Johan Kraus was an excellent choice, as far as bringing new characters in was concerned. He's relatively minor in the comic series, from what I understand, and they changed his look and the nature of his abilities, but I love his new incarnation more than his comic self. Furthermore, a lot of the humor originated from the "Superordinary People in Ordinary Situations = Comic Gold" formula, of which I am an enormous fan.
Also, the movie was just SO PRETTY.
Abe did seem to be acting mildly out of character, though, and didn't get a chance to be as awesome as he was in the first movie. Although the line, "Is that a map?" as he stammeringly tried to seduce the princess was hilarious.
Also. The Princess? Why did she kill herself? She could have stabbed her own sword arm to stop her brother. Or just yelled, "Look out!" even.

Transcendental plan, those are my thoughts exactly. @__@
Stabbing herself was tre unnecisary. Yell "Help!" or cut your sword arm, or even, I dunno, STOP him. I mean cripes, it's just a dagger. It might not even penetrate red's thick skin.
Yes. I don't think it had the dramatic content of a thimble. It oozed with drama. It had some jokes, but it was tied the the "setup-punchline-wait for laughter" formula. The humor arose naturally from the funny situations.
Yes, it was vereh pretty. n_n That's what you get when Guillermo Del Toro is in the director seat. =D
Jinnari, there's a shitload of movies with flashy special effects, but not many of them actually make something that >>looks good<<. They just go "look, we have flashy special effects." Hellboy 2 looks good in the same way that a greek statue or a rennaisance painting does.
