The Beginning: Martial Law
The Beginning: Martial Law
Daggermark. A live, thriving kingdom built upon a simple plane in the far reaches of the Third Realm (read: Kunai's head). Within this kingdom, there were two adorable peoples who lived in symbiosis.
The Cactoids, a rough, industrial, and individual people. They were friendly enough when they needed to be, but most of the time it was strictly business. They were notorious for their hard-working lifestyles and also being full of delicious juice.
The Kittens, a relaxed, artistic bunch. Their beliefs greatly stressed the importance of family and self-expression. When not lounging in the sun or batting around various spherical objects, the Kittens advanced magical knowledge, created fascinating architecture, and made neat paw-paintings.
Over time, the relationship between the two races became strained. Their values were like day and night, and the further each race built on their lifestyles, the more it began to contradict the other's. Eventually, the cultural difference became too much to retain order in one place. Fights broke out over whose ideas were the better.
The events that followed created a devastating civil war:
the Great Cuteness War.
All the fighting was in vain. Instead of one people gaining dominance, the whole social structure fell apart. Daggermark was no longer a kingdom, but a beaten down city-state where everyone went their separate ways and the only true law was Might is Right.
Modern Times
Not long ago, a strange device appeared near the center of the kingdom. Impervious to all attempts at probing or destruction, the device seemed to- oddly enough- serve only to revive those that fell within Daggermark's borders (which happen to stretch very far.) It is the Deus Ex Machina. Nobody knows how it works, and nobody cares. Killing is no longer immoral. Now people can truly pursue their personal agendas without regret or fear.
The social structure from the past utopia may have fallen, but a hierarchy still exists. An individual's power is measured in "Levels". The higher the level of the inhabitant, the more say they have in politics. The greatest citizen of Daggermark is revered as a sort of crude king figure:
the Ultimate Super Hyper Happy Levelup Peace Brave Warrior.
People are constantly clambering for the throne, and leadership seems to change on a monthly basis.
Important Figures
Big Sis
Big Sis
As told by the Kittens, she is the plane's Great Ruler, the One True Goddess. She views all inhabitants of Daggermark as Her Brothers and Sisters. Big Sis is always watching, partly for amusement, partly because of Her protective attitude. She occasionally smites those who get out of hand and blesses those in dire trouble. Unlike all those other gods you may have heard of who are cryptic and barely present, Big Sis isn't afraid to present herself (in various forms) in the world from time to time. She almost always speaks to those who pray to Her. Her replies range from totally silly to very helpful hints. She does play favorites, and is generally more responsive to and rewarding of those who pray often and generally just go on quests/sacrifice things as a tribute to Her.
Deus Ex Machina, The
As mentioned in the history above. This mysterious device revives those in the realm, eliminating most feelings of immorality from the act of killing. Now dying is just kind of irritating and inconvenient.
USHHLPB Warrior
As mentioned in the history above. The USHHLPB Warrior serves as a sort of monarch for the land of Daggermark. They are the (temporarily) undisputed champions of the kingdom, and thus hold political power over all. Whether the masses actually listen or not is another thing. Either way, it's good to be King- or, rather, good to be Ultimate Super Hyper Hap... oh, whatever.
