Oh, gods, he ached... he ached everywhere.
The young blue and purple male limped under the hot sun, his head low before him and his tail between his legs. Dirt clung to his once bright fur, the yellow eyes dull with pain and fatique. He was such an idiot... a weakling, good for nothing.
A sigh slipped from him as he stumbled to a stop and sat down ubruptly, little will to keep going. He knew he should find Chambua, his companion, but he just hurt too much right now, too disgusted with himself.
That zebra had been a mistake. Too big for him alone, first off, and not as sickly or injured as it should have been. Just an all around bad choice for his lame try at hunting by himself. Sure, he'd managed to get close to it, but that kick to his shoulder had been agony, pain stabbing through his body. Even now, the wound throbbed, though he'd managed to clean the shallow cut and the bleeding had stopped.
Glancing around, he sighed softly and shifted where he sat, unsure if he felt up to continuing on his search for Chambua. Maybe he'd just rest a little, see if the throbbing went away.

Amedea had always been taken by mortals. From beginning to end- even before she had loved one so dearly, she had always felt far more at home among mortal kind then amongst her own. To her, mortals were fascinating and ever changing. They were not time worn like the gods. They did not judge like the gods. Their moods and attitudes, whether they be peace or war, changed in less time then most gods spent in slumber. But what she admired most was that mortals rarely needed them at all.
Which was perhaps why Amedea had become somewhat of a recluse as of last century. As the totem deity of healing, her presence in the world undoubtedly bolstered the mortal kind; But when it came down to it- mortals found their ways to draw energy from her without so much of an inkling from her. Life needed her only to exist, but it did not need her help directly.
But on occasion, Amedea did feel compelled to lend a hand. She was drawn to it. A pain in her chest, a murming in her head and she knew more than an inkling was needed. Sometimes, life needed a push in the right direction to keep darkness and death at bay.
Which was why the small creature found herself out roaming. She liked to think she had mastered the art of following her "notions", but... Her head rose, and carefully she glanced about the flat plane. She had landed not long before, and had not yet resumed back to her mortal shape. She wasn't sure why, but she found herself unsure of where she was- something perhaps muddling her senses? She snorted and took a few long strides forward. It would be like her mother to silently interfere like that.
A sudden stabbing pain in her shoulder brought the lioness to wince. "Felt that one," She commented to herself, and danced her strange eyes about. The hot sun was burning down upon the earth. She did not feel it directly, but she knew it was of no comfort to the soul she was feeling from. Need to work faster, she scolded herself quietly.
Opening her wings, she took to the air again to get her bearings. She could feel it alright... but where...?

It would have mortified Ryuuko to know that the throbbing pain he felt in his shoulder was now a sympathetic pain in another. He would have felt awful to be causing another pain, even if it was beyond his control.
Blinking slowly, he sighed again, the sound long-suffering. 'Pity-party for one, right here' a voice whispered in his ear, but he ignored it. Why shouldn't he feel sorry for himself? There was no one around, no one to see him wallowing in self-pitty and pain.

(;0;! Eek, wasn't sure if 'tba' meaned to be added, but I figured I'd post. <3 )
To Amedea, pain was a strange sensation. It hurt her- but not on the same level that it plagued mortals. Perhaps, because no matter how bad it got- Amedea always knew, at least subconsciously, that she was in no danger. Which made it all the more worse when she couldn’t immediately find the target she was looking for. It kicked up a kind of feeling of dread. She wasn’t prone to over-reacting, but over worrying she could have made a career out of.
The white creature settled down again, kicking up a small waft of dust as she flushed her wings downward. Her eyes were already flicking back and forth- but luckily in this instance, the sight of the poor fellow laying across the earth was immediately recognizable against the brown earth. He seemed to sigh lowly as she noticed him, and scolded herself for not properly disguising herself. It seemed mortals nowadays were becoming less concerned with their peculiar wing appendages- [among other things!], but Amedea was never one who liked to scare sick individuals. But quietly she decided she couldn’t risk transforming outright in front of him either.
So she made due by pressing her wings closely to her body, and carefully approached the young male. There were flowers tied to his hair- and immediately she was struck with a cord of sympathy. “Hello,” She breathed carefully, not wanting to startle.

A soft voice, like a breath of air in his ears, drew the young male's attention and he jerked his head up, ears perking in surprise and curiosity.
"W-what? Oh, I'm sorry... I, um, didn't see you there..." He gasped out as he straightened up, despite the pain in his leg and shoulder. With the motion and stab of pain that came with it came a vague thought that the bones didn't feel quite right... like his leg had gotten pulled all out of place. It was better than it had been, though he couldn't put any weight on it.
The lady that met his eyes made them widen and he found he was at a loss for words now, even if he hadn't been particularly talkative before. She was... well, the most beautiful being he had ever seen. Shining and soft, lovely in every line of her form... And strangely, she gave him a feeling of familiarity, like the feeling he only vaguely remembered from one other... his mother, before she'd disappeared. His jaw worked as he struggled for words and couldn't find any, her wings only registering in the back of his mind. He'd deal with -that- later.
"Hello..." He finally managed, his voice an adolescent squeak.

A breathless puff of hot wind knocked against the white creature. Her head shook as he seemed to apologize for his existence, and carefully she looked over the young lion’s battered form. “Hi,” She spoke again as he squeaked, her eyes softening. One might think that after all these millenniums and across several rather long lifetimes, seeing pain and hurt might eventually harden the pale goddess towards suffering. And yet, it seemed that every time she found herself in this very situation, it always felt the same. The same heaviness in her heart that dropped all the way to her toes. It never made her any less sorry.
As he tried to straighten himself out, she winced in her own sympathy pangs. "Oh, no no- you shouldn't move. I'm no one to stand up for," She chuckled.
“What’s your name?” She asked with a curious softness as another sub-portion of her being evaluated the damages wrecked on the adolescent. “I’m Amedia.” She continued, dipping down her own flower adorned head. Her wings, which were still tightly pressed against her body in attempts to hide them- shimmered slightly.
She studied the dragging leg carefully. And then, as if coming to her own conclusion- she rose back up to sit on her back legs, and removed a flower from her head. “Here- eat this. It should stop the pain for the moment.” Long enough for her to judge how much she was needed.

The young male watched the goddess with unabashed awe, still too naive to hide his emotions. She fascinated him and even scared him a little, which is what kept him from being too friendly straight off.
His shoulder throbbed, but he ignored it. What was a kicked shoulder to seeing her? He'd gladly break his leg, if he knew he'd feel like this again, in the presence of something so beyond him. When she told him to not move, he sat back obediently without a thought. She probably could have told him to bark like a dog or jump off a cliff and he would have done it, he was so smitten.
"M-my name?" He gasped out, surprised that she'd even care to know. "My name is Ryuuko. It means... dragon child..." He said softly, his ears splaying to the sides in shyness. "Its nice to meet you!" The adolescent added quickly, nodding. Yellow eyes widened as she moved and her wings drew his attention, his throat working as he swallowed.
The toes of his injured leg flexed and wiggled as he watched her studying him, self conscious about it and he ate the flower she gave him almost without thinking, feeling it rasped strangely as it went down his throat. His eyes widened as he felt a blessed numbness spread through him, dulling the pain in his shoulder till he barely felt it.
"T-that's amazing!" He gasped out. "How did you do that?"

Her face brightened as she saw the pain drop from the young male’s face. “I did nothing at all,” She smiled. “The flower did all the work.” And quite a potent one at that. She would have to be sure to replenish her stock of it- because unlike the herbs she kept weaseled away for drying, the flowers almost always needed to be kept fresh in order for the numbing to go into effect. “It’s a rare one, but a good one. It should keep the pain away for a bit- but let me know if it doesn’t.”
Whenever possible, Amedia did like to use herbs in her healing. The less powers she used ensured she always had enough energy to cope with emergencies that needed her powers directly. She also found mortals tended to do better with gradual heals then sudden miraculous recoveries. At least their wisdom fared better anyways.
But- some things herbs couldn’t fix. And all the herbs in the world wouldn’t put the bones in the poor lion’s shoulder back in place. Now that she was sure her own tampering wouldn’t hurt him, she walked carefully around the male, and placed her paw on his shoulder; feeling the wound out. “Ryuuko is a beautiful name though.” She preened, eager to keep him talking rather then worrying about the shoulder. “It’s nice to meet you too! Although, I hope next time on better circumstances.”
She pulled back, once again assuming a strange sort of ‘seated’ position. “There’s nothing to worry about though. I can fix your shoulder. But you'll need to rest afterwards, so I don't want to leave you here. Do you think you could lean on me? We can find someplace for you to rest."

Feeling another spurt of shyness, Ryu kept very still as the goddess moved around him, trembling when her paw rested against his wounded shoulder. He felt nothing, but he would later swear he felt a tingle at the contact, a pleasant buzz of energy and connection. He was well and truly dazzled by this shining creature, this lioness more beautiful than any he'd ever seen paying him such kindness. Such was his growing infatuation that later he might even claim she resembled his mother, which wasn't such a far stretch since he'd last seen her as a very young cub, time dulling and blurring his memory. It could have very well been true, but there was no way to tell.
He would have blushed if he could have, when she complimented his name. "My m-mother named me that. Her name meant dragon too. So, I was child of the dragon, see?" He babbled, searching for words to cover his bumbling awkwardness.
"Do... a lot of plants do things like that? Like the numbing?" He tried to make conversation, hoping that as long as she was talking to him, she'd stay with him. "It would be... nice, next time I screw up and let a zebra kick me." A little smile curled on his face, inviting her to laugh at his expense. "I'm not a very good hunter, I think, or I'd catch more and get hurt less. I wouldn't even hunt, if I didn't have to."
Yellow eyes blinked when she suggested moving somewhere so she could fix him and his words stumbled over each other as he drew back just a little. Lean on this beautiful, delicate creature? It seemed sacrilegious to do so. "Oh, I can walk!" He gasped out as he heaved himself up, balancing on three legs as he kept his weight off the injured one. "See? I-I'll just follow you."

Amedia smiled. She liked this lion’s kind voice- even if his nervousness made him stammer. There were often times she worried about the moral implications her healings caused. Did healing a lion who happened to be a murder make her responsible for every crime he committed in the future? She never turned anyone away, but it was always a fear of hers. The fear that somehow, no matter how hard she tried she could not fight away darkness. But with lions like Ryuuko, she never felt the need to worry. She enjoyed these cases the most of all.
“That’s beautiful,” Amedia preened. “Your mother must have loved you very much.” Mothers… just the passing thought of her own caused her to wince. But it was erased almost as fast just by hearing the shy boy’s voice.
“Hehe,” She grinned. Despite his complaints, she moved beside him. “You can’t hurt me- please, I’d much rather you not strain yourself any. I might look like a frail thing- but I really can hold quite a bit.” As if to prove herself; she gently dropped low alongside his bad shoulder so he could rest one side across her back.
To distract him from worrying about it- she started to talk again. “Plants do a lot of very powerful things if you know where to look. They can be just as dangerous as well- but in the right amount and combination they can do almost anything.”
“And everything else-“ Amedia smiled. “I can handle.”

Daintily, seeking to put as little pressure on the goddess as possible, Ryuuko let her take some of his weight for him. He ducked his head as his ears pressed back, embarrassed by her compliments and struck a little by how she echoed his thoughts on his mother.
"I don't know... I suppose she might have. I... I havn't seen her since I was very little." He usually didn't let him think too hard about why his mother was missing and what had happened to her. He come to think that something had mislaid her, leading to her death, since that thought was slightly less painful than the thought she might have abandoned him and not returned because she didn't want him. So much easier to think she would have come back if she could have, that she had loved him. He distracted himself from those thoughts with the talk of pants, feeling his curiosity peaked.
"Really? I wish I knew where to look for them... If I knew plants like you do, I bet I could do all sorts of things, and help people! Its all I really want to do... Find a place and people that need me." He used the talk to also distract him from the pain, letting Ameh lead him to where she wanted him to be.

(( RP moved to PMs ))
Amedia frowned, hearing the boy's concerns. "I'm sure she must have," She said as steadily as she could. She would not believe any mother could not love their child. Even if it was sometimes true. "Sometimes...we can't always be with the ones we love. But that doesn't make us love them any less. Even I have a mother," She admitted. "She's not always there but... sometimes that's the way of the world."
She wondered what Amaret might say to that. She could sense a witty retort, and she was glad the old goddess wasn't around to dismiss her hopeful lecture. When it came to debates, it was Amaret who always rose the victor.
There was a flash of delight, however, that crossed the small goddess's face when the boy expressed an interest in herbalism. "Well, if you really do want to help people...I would be happy to show you anything I know. It's a long process, and there's much to be said...but, I would teach all I have to you, if it's what you wish."

Ryuuko's face brightened into a smile at the thought of a teacher, of learning the ways of healing plants from a goddess. It was an exciting idea, almost too good to be true! He'd... finally have a purpose, something to do with himself.
"It... it would be more than I could ask of you, more than I'd ever hoped for." He said tentatively, his smile suddenly shy. "I promise I would be the best student you could find! I'll learn everything and remember it all." He nodded enthusiastically, his flowers bouncing on his head. Maybe someday he'd trade them out for healing herbs, for things that were more than decoration.
"I just want to be useful... and I think this would be a perfect way. I could go anywhere and find ways to help others, and maybe even find a place to stay.." He ducked his head even as he smiled at the possibilities. There was so much to think about! And more time with the lovely goddess was only to the better, really.
"When would you be pleased to start? I don't have a home to go to, I can wait anywhere you want until you're ready." He had that puppy dog sort of look on his face, the hopeful, innocent look of the young. And he would wait for her too, any where she pleased and for as long as she pleased. His devotion grew with every word she spoke, devotion to her, her craft, and the shining utopia he saw in his head.

Amedia was easily enthused, and the fact that he was happy with the idea was overjoying. Little moments like these were why she loved mortals- why she happily served them throughout the centuries. So different from her kind! Always changing, always open- willing to help others! "I think you will be useful no matter what you decide," she reminded. "But, I am certainly able to help if I can."
"Well," She smiled. "One of the better benefits of being what I am is that I too, have no true home. Don't worry about waiting for me- I can find you anywhere if I need to be! But, plants are fickle creatures, not so willing to move. So after I have seen to your injuries, I shall give you a place to visit."
They would have to work out his home situation though. Now that she was involved, she couldn't stand the idea of such a kind boy not having a place to call his own. 'Didn't you swear to stop meddling?' Amedia thought to herself. Well. This wasn't exactly meddling. Not really.
But even that couldn't set the small goddess arry. The plains were starting to drift into careful slopes- and finally, the pair came upon a large uprooted tree. Although it had fallen and died long ago, the stretching roots and branches made a decent enough canopy in it's wake. "This should be fine," Amedia said, her ears pivoting carefully.

The young male followed the goddess eagerly, limping along after her as he favored his hurt shoulder. The numbness was a blessing, but didn't know for how long. And did the numbness signal healing, or was he still hurt under the lack of pain? Would too much movement, unaware, just do more damage? He was greatful then when they reached the tree and he could settle down to sit, self-consciously cleaning his paws of dirt.
"Thank you, Lady." He said softly as he sat back, his expression shy now. "Thank you for helping me, even though you've only just met me." It was obvious to anyone who cared to look that he adored his new savior and there was a good chance he would always set her on a pedestal, a shining vision to strive for in his small, mortal life.
"I don't know where you find your plants though... I know I haven't been everywhere, but all I've seen are the same things that grow everywhere."
