RP for Kaiyumi + The Kat Aclysm. Reffies: {link} + {link}---------------------------------- Phoenix Wright had been rather quiet and had kept to himself in the last few months. He had sat out most of the winter in the residence where Kitsumi, Saix, Edgeworth and company resided, mostly keeping to himself and out of the way. Since he had concluded that he had no job at all in these lands, he had lost his motivation to defend and protect others against false accusation. Nobody came to him needing help and he hadn't gone looking either.
He had been bored and unhappy. Phoenix had spent his winter doing not much of anything, and perhaps visiting the Realm HQ building to raid it for various alcoholic supplies. There he had found Vash The Stampede, and they had a fun time drinking. While that in itself was fun, it had gotten old fast.
Without the need of his services, he had put away his Defense Attorney badge and had decided to go casual. The clothes had been good for the winter and the spring, but now that the summer had arrived, he found himself uncomfortable and overheating. Still, it gave him a sense of normalcy. Without the sharp blue suit and the badge, he looked like anybody else... or at least any other Kitsusagi who wore clothes.
But still, despite the fact he had come to the conclusion that he wasn't needed any more, he still found himself bored often.
"I need to get out more..." He muttered to himself. "It's a nice day outside."
He wandered out of his room in search of others to annoy, or pester.

Edgeworth sighed - with what could have been relief - as he watched Saix leave the house, Kitsumi trailing behind him eagerly. After much prodding and whining, Kitsumi had successfully encouraged (more like forced) the former organization member to visit his children.
Hopping onto the couch, he peered out of the window, raising a paw to wave back to Kitsumi as they left. Once they were gone, he slumped on the couch, bored. What to do now? There wasn't much to do at home - maybe he should go out an take a walk...
Unlike Phoenix, Edgeworth still wore his suit everyday. Perhaps he was just too used to wearing the suit - or maybe he still had hope that he'd somehow get his job back one day. "Not unless I turn back into a human..." He murmured to himself quietly. Despite the fact he had grown accustomed to being a Kitsusagi and being around the others, he just felt as if he had no purpose as a Kitsusagi.
Maybe he'd have to suggest a Kitsu-Court sometime. After all, surely not all Kitsusagi got along? Though he frankly doubted that there were ever any murders.
Hearing a door creak open, he turned to look at Phoenix. "Oh. Wright."

"Oh... hey there, Edgeworth. Yeah. It's me." Phoenix replied, his tone one of slight nervousness. Out of all the Kitsusagi in the house, he had to encounter him. Phoenix lowered his ears slightly, tensing. He had been wanting to talk to him for a while, but... didn't even know where to begin.
"I, uh..." He began, awkward. There was so much he wanted to say. He had imagined conversations many times over in his head, and exactly how to play them out. But now that he was actually in front of his old friend, all of that had been forgotten. "I... um. H-how are you doing?"
Releasing a tired sigh off the top of his lungs, he wandered into the room and sat down a few feet away from Edgeworth on the couch. After glancing around the room for a few moments, he pressed his front paws together, wiggling the index paw-fingers. If he still had thumbs, he would have been twiddling them right about now.
"Nice day outside, huh?" He grinned suddenly. "Wanna go do something? The Realm HQ Building has sake or wine if that's more to your liking." He subtly slipped a paw under his toque and began scratching the back of his head.
"Yeah, nice one, Phoenix... suggesting to go drinking again. How original of you."

He opened his mouth to respond, but clamped it shut after a moment, staring at Phoenix with surprise. The surprise slowly changed to a disapproving frown.
"Wright, what are you wearing?" He demanded. Aside from their childhood days, Edgeworth could hardly recall any time he had seen his old friend in anything aside from the suit he wore as a lawyer. Now, however, Phoenix was clad in far more casual clothing. Seeing the former defense attorney like that made the former prosecutor frown.
"You look like a homeless person." He stated bluntly. "When was the last time you shaved?" Edgeworth added, though frankly, he wasn't sure how a Kitsusagi could shave without shaving off half of the fur on their face.
He pushed this thought away, as much as it amused him to imagine how Phoenix would look with the fur around his chin gone.
After a moment, he nodded. "It's quite a nice day, yes." The male admitted with a shrug of his shoulders. "Sake? Wine? Is it even safe to drink while we're...well, Kitsusagi?"

Phoenix was a little surprised at Edgeworth's reaction. He personally thought his change into more casual attire was a good one. It also made him feel less like a lawyer and more like some ordinary guy who blended in.
"Oh, this?" He pulled at the bottom of his toque. "It's uh... a hat. Like it? I just thought I'd wear this stuff because I'm not a lawyer any more. I don't need to be. Nobody needs me... nobody needs my services. I'm out of a job." He looked unhappy upon stating this fact. "So yeah... it was either continuing to wear the suit or... well, this." He shook his head slowly and sighed. "We're not needed. Might as well just go casual."
"I... look like a homeless person?" Phoenix blinked at that remark. "Well, gee, thanks..." He pulled the toque off his head and rubbed at his mess of spikey hair. He hadn't waxed it in a few days and it stuck up everywhere like a spiked mop. "Shaving...? I uh..." He went quiet, not really wanting to talk about that.
"Sake and wine are quite safe for us to drink." He nodded quickly, then motioned with his paws, pointing towards the door. "Why?" He grinned playfully. "Want to go get some?"
He wagged his tails at the idea of that. Maybe he'd find it easier to talk to Edgeworth once he'd had a few shots of sake.

He continued to frown, his gaze sweeping over Phoenix calculatingly.
"You shouldn't give up hope so soon," Edgeworth scolded, even though it had already been about a year, "Who says that we won't be needed again someday?" Even as he said this, a feeling of doubt at his own words lingered in his mind. Irritably, he shoved the nagging thought into a dusty corner of his brain.
Clearing his throat, he eyed his old friend with a risen brow. "Just because we don't have a job right now doesn't mean that you have to dress like it." The Kitsusagi sighed, "I, for one, think that I'll continue wearing my suit regardless of what happens." As he said this, he smoothed down his cravat.
His frown deepened upon seeing Phoenix's hair. Instinctively - like what he did when Kitsumi had a bad hair day - he reached out in an attempt to pat the spikes down a little. "Goodness, Wright." He grumbled, looking a little irritated.
"Well..." He trailed off, considering the offer. Everyone else was out right now, and it would be a shame to spend the day at home. "I suppose so..."

"As much as I'd like to believe it," Phoenix began. "I'm pretty certain that our services will never be needed again, Edgeworth. I mean, there's no legal system here. No judge, no jail. There is good and bad and a sense of what is wrong and right, which is good in itself..." He slowly shook his head. "But beyond that? Nothing. Nothing at all... I've been of no use since I got here." He began to pull at the edge of his toque, turning it inside out. "Nobody needs me."
"I'm glad you decided to keep wearing your suit though," He continued, grinning slightly. "You always looked good. Uh, er... it always looked good. On you, I mean...."
Phoenix immediately tensed, his entire body going rigid as Edgeworth reached out to pat his hair down. He said nothing and just stared back at the other with unblinking eyes.
"S-sorry..."
"Well, uh..." He quickly nodded for the door, wanting to change the topic, feeling rather uncomfortable right now. "Shall we be off, then?" He headed for the door and opened it before he even had the answer, breathing in the clean crisp air of the outdoors that greeted him at the doorstep.
"Ah yes," He grinned. "Definitely a good day for a walk."

As much as Edgeworth didn't want to admit it, he knew Phoenix was right. It's didn't look like they'd ever get an actual job around here, never mind ever turn back into humans. He shifted his weight awkwardly, not sure what he should do when the other Kitsusagi continued to speak. It certainly seemed like it had been hard on the former defense attorney to have lost his job.
"You've helped around the house, kind of," He supplied, "And - er - watched Kitsumi from time to time?" The male grumbled, in an attempt to cheer him up a little - a task he wasn't really good at. "And uh. Kitsumi likes having you around. Kalliope and Garnet too." He didn't find it necessary to add himself to the list, and it'd just be a plain lie if he said that Saix enjoyed having Phoenix around.
He stared in surprise, before looking somewhat embarrassed. "Er. Thanks." Edgeworth muttered, averting his gaze for a moment.
He drew back his paw, frowning. "You really have to start taking more care of yourself. Just because you're out of a job doesn't mean you can start looking sloppy."
Edgeworth hesitated then, before nodding rather briskly. "Alright. Can't be out for too long though." Following after him, he shut the door behind them and peered up at the sky.
"Certainly one of the nicer days." He agreed.

"Don't worry about that, Edgeworth. I promise we wouldn't be gone long," Phoenix said quickly as he began to wander off down the path from the house, wandering out into the Kitsusagi territory. "We won't be gone very long at all. Heck, we can even come back within the hour, if you really wanted."
"How come you didn't want to stay out?" He glanced back at the prosecutor, scratching the side of his head. "Are you waiting on somebody? Or are you just looking after the house while everybody else is out doing... stuff?" He stopped to wait for the other, then moved ahead again, leading the way to the Realm HQ building.
"There's not much stuff to choose from," He continued. "But I hope you'll like what they do have. I found some sakes and some red wine last time I went looking through the cupboards there." He chuckled. "And if you really like it, well... you can take it back with you. Nobody seems to own it, and nobody really cares if you take something from there." He grinned back at the other, quickly adding to his statement. "It's not stealing, either. I think it's everybody's, or nobody's. It's just there for the taking, in any case."

He seemed a little hesitant, but nodded slowly. "Alright...only for a little while, alright?" Edgeworth followed after Phoenix, looking somewhat anxious at having to leave the house. "Back within the hour would be good." He agreed.
"The others are all out right now, so I'm watching the house," He explained, "And even though Kitsumi went out with Saix today, she's supposed to return home herself later. I didn't want to leave her alone in the house, since...er..." He trailed off, certain that Phoenix would understand what he was implying. They had left the house in tip-top shape - Edgeworth didn't want to go back to one that was a disaster.
He listened quietly, before shrugging, "I don't really mind about the variety. It's been so long since I've had any at all." Edgeworth frowned a little suspiciously as he glanced at Phoenix from the corner of his eye. "Are you sure about that?" He asked, "I mean, just because there aren't really and laws around here..."
It was hard to tell whether he was being serious, or just kidding.

"Alright. But hey - don't worry, Edgeworth, really." Phoenix said quickly, trying to assure his old friend and rival. "I'll make sure nothing bad happens to the house. We'll be back before Kitsumi and Saix return. It'll be just a quick trip there and back, not enough time for them to do anything irresponsible to your stuff. Or the place in general for that matter." He grinned, knowing quite well what Edgeworth had been referring to. "But yeah. Don't worry at all - everything's going to be OK." He said finally, sounding sure of himself, even though in truth, he knew that very statement could be quite wrong indeed.
"I can assure you that taking stuff from the HQ building is not stealing. I was a little worried about taking supplies from that HQ building myself in the first place," He continued. "But it really doesn't belong to anybody. Well... it belongs to all of us and nobody at the same time. I think somebody puts it out for the Kitsusagi to take for themselves. I've never gotten into trouble for it and neither has anyone else I know. So don't worry about that either."
He began to move ahead with more speed, wagging his banded tails once he saw the HQ shack in the distance. "Come on," he said quickly. "We're nearly there. We can go there and chat, or if you like, we can grab what we need and head back to the house. If you're that worried about being away, that is..."
Phoenix ran ahead the rest of the way to the building, opening the door once he had made it. "We're here!" He announced happily.

"Easy for you to say," He muttered, "If you haven't noticed, Kitsumi isn't someone who can be tamed. For all we know, she could be heading home right now." Edgeworth looked uncomfortable as he imagined all the destruction that would greet them when they returned home. "...like a tornado went through the house..."
He really needed to loosen up. Really. Maybe a drink with his old friend would help him for a bit, but that was exactly it - it'd only help him for a little while. After that, he would be back to fretting. He would have gray hairs from stress if...well, if his hair wasn't already naturally gray.
"If you're that positive that you aren't stealing..." He trailed off, still looking a little skeptical, but he didn't open his mouth to protest further. Still, he had to wonder where the Kitsusagi got the wine in the first place. It seemed like, the longer he lived here, the more confused he got. Which technically made no logical sense at all. 'Maybe I've lost all sense of logic here.' He thought gloomily.
He sighed as he followed Phoenix, looking up as he spoke. "...I don't know if I trust bringing anything alcoholic home," He pointed out, thinking about Kitsumi, "So if we really aren't going to take long...we'll stay here then, and chat for a bit?"

Phoenix looked a little troubled at Edgeworth's comment. He could tell that his old friend was obviously concerned about Kitsumi being in the house with no supervision, but he couldn't help but feel that he was being a little too hard on her.
"Surely she'll be alright for five minutes or so?" He sighed. "Is she really that bad? She didn't seem like a bad kid. Just crazy. A little off-kilter in the mind. But not dangerous, or angry or anything. I don't think she would damage anything in your house out of spite, or out of anger. Relax, Edgeworth. I think you might need to give her a little more credit."
"It's not stealing," He grinned, tails wagging slightly as he pushed the door open. "Come on in. It's nice and cosy inside of here." He was beaming with happiness now. Phoenix had spoken the truth about this place. He had taken refuge here during his first night in the territory, afterall.
"It's around here somewhere..." He began to sniff around. "If you don't want to take it home, then yeah..." He trailed off, thinking hard, his grin fading fast. "A drink and a chat would be really nice, actually..."
"It depends what you want to talk about, too."

"That's the thing," Edgeworth said, sighing in exasperation, "She's not dangerous or anything, no. Nor does she do this intentionally. It still doesn't take away the fact that she's a whirlwind of accidents and disaster where ever she goes." He sighed again, looking troubled. He knew that he SHOULD put some more trust in the other Kitsusagi but...it was hard. Terribly, terribly hard. "I never want to have kids."
He grumbled the last bit to himself. Not that he ever thought about having kids or settling down. He was always much too caught up in his work. There was time to think about such troublesome things now, but...well, really. He still didn't like the idea one bit.
"I'll have to trust you then." Edgeworth slipped through the door after Phoenix, peering around with mild interest. Well, he had to admit that it certainly was quite nice.
"Uh, yes. We might as well drink here." He said quickly, trying to push the idea of one of the younger Kitsusagi finding the alcohol at home out of his mind.
He continued to glance around, avoiding looking at Phoenix. "I'm not quite sure what you want to chat about, however." They hadn't really had a good chat for a long time now. Very long, really.

Phoenix found himself chuckling at Edgeworth's comments on Kitsumi. He was amused at his old friend and rival's frankness on the situation, and although he had to admit that he felt a bit of sympathy for the girl, Edgeworth spoke the truth.
"She is a bit of a hazard," He nodded. "But she means well. At least she's not malicious like some people I used to know..." A slight shiver went up his spine at the thought of those in his past which had caused him difficulties, and he had to shake himself for a moment to rid himself of the prickly fur feeling he was getting.
"What do I want to chat about?" He scratched the side of his head, suddenly feeling a little uncomfortable. "Where do I even begin..?" He thought to himself, slowly shaking his head. "Uh..." He hesitated for nearly a minute, pinning his ears back. "Let me get that drink, huh?"
Phoenix was glad of the distraction and walked to the cupboards in the kitchen to dig through them. He soon found what he was looking for - a red labelled bottle of sake. He quickly grabbed two glasses and set them down on the floor in front of him, neatly pouring some of the sake into each one.
"That's better." He grinned. "Have you been in here before? It's actually not too bad. Quite comfortable in the winter too, once they get the fireplace going." He picked up his glass and began to sip from it, his eyes watering at the strength of the liquid. It was obviously one of the more cheaper brands, but by now, he didn't care much. Not that he had cared much in the beginning... it was hard enough to come by as it was.
"I've been here for over a year now," He said calmly, glancing off into the distsance, staring at nothing in particular as he began to think. "You too, Edgeworth. All that stuff before... it seems like it happened nearly a lifetime ago now, doesn't it?"
