General Description

Once one of the most prosperous provinces of the Eindorian Empire, Lyaeus has fallen far from it's previous prosperity since the Empire's decline. Governed by a small council of the former Eindorian Governor Myron Belepharos and his three Nulian lieutenants, Lyaeus has degenerated from a proud economic arm of the Empire to a small coastal nation under martial law.

The Marosi people form most of the population of Lyaeus, while a few Nulians estranged from the Empire remain in control of the army and what little government remains. Abandoned by their Nulian masters, the Marosi have no clear purpose. The common people of Lyaeus still work their fields, but they live in constant fear that their sons may be impressed into the Lyaean army at any moment. Once some Illeu lived in Lyaeus, drawn there by the potential for wealth in the port city of Xenos, but most or all of these Illeu have since been driven out by the Lyaean army. Other races find the current political situation unappealing, and steer clear.

Lyaeus' weather is much like Valena's as the two countries lie side by side, with Lyaeus holding the southernmost part of the peninsula.

Spring hails the planting season for the Marosi farmers who still secretly hold ceremonies to Ratha for the sake of their fledgling crops despite stern laws against Elemental Reverence by the Governor. It seems that the Elemental Spirit takes their risky prayers to heart as Lyaeus' agriculture has been plentiful in the last decade, allowing the Marosi to freely feed their families and the bellies of their Nulian overlords.

The spring monsoons are not as dangerous as they are in Valena and Ebur, though the thunderstorms have caused problems in the past by creating fires in the country's north western plains that have ravaged fields of crops. The average temperatures for the Spring months are in the 60-70F/16-21C range.

The Summers are quite oppressive in Lyaeus as winds from the north west can bring the dry heat of Jaqar into the nation's northern regions. The typical average temperature for these hot months is 80F/26C but can easily soar past the 100F/37C point in the middle months of July and June.

Autumn begins in September and is relatively short to the middle of November and is when the Marosi are at their busiest - harvesting their ripened crops as quickly as possible and selling what they can so that they might live. The temperature begins to drop and the Autumn average is in the 50F/10C , with the lows hitting in mid November of the 40F/4C range.

The Average temperature in Winter is in the 30-40F/-1-4C.




Lyaeus is in a cease fire with Valena, which has been steadily gobbling up pockets of land that the Lyaean army finds it increasingly difficult to control. Governor Belepharos is extremely envious of the Valenan monarchy's economic success, and will do almost anything to see Adrian Valen fall from power.

Valena: Shaky Truce
All-Out war broke out 5 years ago between the two nations and lasted for two years before the subsequent 3 years of 'peace' fell between the two nations.

Valenan Citizens are not allowed to cross over into Lyaeus and the same goes for Citizens of Lyaeus. Despite the truce which both Governor Belepharos and King Adrian had signed, the tensions between Valena and Lyaeus have been particularly high; especially since Valena has been assisting many of Lyaeus' refugees and allowing them to claim asylum within Valenan borders.

While no open warfare is going on, Governor Belepharos has made it quite clear that he has no great love for the Valens and is biding his time to disrupt the peace.


Jaqar: They'll fight our Battles
The Soldiers of Sand have been more then happy to assist Lyaeus in their battles against Valena, and, despite Valena's use of Permian Mercenaries to bolster their army, Jaqar has an official alliance with Lyaeus - not because they favor them outright - but because Lyaeus is a land that seems steeped in warfare and it is warfare that Permians revel in.


Mitania: Trade Block
Many Marosi have fled back to their native land of Mitania to seek refuge form the Governor's oppression. Because of this, Lyaeus' relationship with the Peddik nation have been strenuous and Mitania refuses to trade with Lyaeus unless they cease fighting with Valena and focus on the well being of their citizens.

Mitania has encouraged other Countries to join in their economic sanction against Lyaeus and is slowly gaining ground, much to the anger of Governor Belepharos.


Arrosent: Illeu Scum - Limited Trade
Viewing Arrosent's success at the Empire's collapse with great envy, Lyaeus begrudgingly deals with Arrosent ambassadors and pleas to end the fighting. As it is well known that the Valenan Monarchy and the Doge hood of Arrosent are in close relations, this stresses Lyaeus' want for diplomacy between the two countries greatly. They would rather not deal with Arrosent and are quite content on the slim trickle of agricultural trade that comes in from the Country.


Ebur: Food Supply, yum
Governor Belepharos only seems to trust other Nulians as he has forsaken the produce of Arrosent's fertile plains and prefers that of Ebur's. Welcoming the extra markets for their products, Ebur turns a blind eye to the fact that their food is feeding the war machine that threatened Valena. It's a matter of Honor between the two Countries, and not Ebur's business.


Tirinithos: Brown Nosers - Rivals
Even during the Empire's rule, Lyaeus an Tirinithos didn't get along very well. Both were vying for a spot as the Empire's richest and most established territories; Tirinithos being the Empire's port haven and Lyaeus vying for a solid spot as such with Xenos and it's fertile lands allowing for easy trade and transportation of their own goods.

Now, with the Empire fallen, Lyaeus views Tirinithos' ability to stay atop the Trade food-chain with extreme displeasure. No matter... once Valena's lands are back in the Lyaeus fold, Governor Belepharos will rule the plains and thus, THE UNIVERSE. (( SPICE! ))


Eindor: Former Master
As it was Eindor that instated their rule, Lyaeus' Military government honors Eindor with promised military aid and trades freely with them. Recently, however, Lyaeus is hard pressed to maintain their good relationship with Eindor as their resources are stretched as a result of the war with Valena.

Halledus: Holy Rollers
While many of the Nulian Elites had visited Halledus at some point for Paladin training and things of that sort, they shunned the teachings of the Elemental Spirits that Halledus prides itself in and the citizens of Lyaeus that visited there became known as staunch Atheists.

Lyaeus is a nation whose population consists of about 3/4 Marosi, the Nulians consisting of the last 1/4th of the population and all other ethnicities and races consisting of less then 1/8th of the entire population. While there are pockets of Ferolans still adamantly residing in their ancestral homes of the Lyaeus plains, most of the other Hyu'ma ethnicities moved to safer countries after the Empire's collapse and in refusal of Belepharos' militaristic rule.
