Forest Arena

User Image

Description: One hundred yards in radius, a grassy arena with some trees scattered about, making it look like a small forest. This allows for many places to hide and any other tactics one can think of. Bushes and shrubs are here, too, but nothing exotic, such as flowers. There are no animals, here, either. The only person you should watch out for is your opponent. There is about three wide open spaces in this forest. However, the trees don't offer really enough coverage to where a person can effectively stay hidden wherever they are.

Starting Positions: Each fighter starts at the center open space, facing one another with about ten feet between them.

Out of Bounds: Out of bounds is anything that touches the stands and beyond.

As soon as the swordsman stepped in, he was not too happy with what he saw. Vaguely he recalled a forest fire he'd been in when he was fighting against someone back in the past, and the outcome of it didn't feel any better than it is being in here.
He quickly made amends to get this whole round started.

At once the swordsman, once he reached the position where the judges assigned them to be at, unsheathed both his blades quickly, the lethal edge glinting in the pale light casting through the forest grounds. Not certain as who or what his opponent would be, he isn't risking any chances of being caught off guard this time; Glass-like ice forming beneath his boots and spreading throughout the ground slowly, its near-transparent state hiding its presence rather well against a keen or observant eye.

And there he waited, shifting to a left side stance with the left blade tucked into a reverse dagger hold, and the right held lazily to his right, ready for response if today's opponent wants to play sneaky.

Ryu walked into the arena with his hands behind his head. Unlike his opponent, he was quite pleased with what he saw. Once again he had been given an ample amount of his elements and he would use them to his advantage. Reaching his assigned position, he notice a few odd things about his opponent. The great thing about being an elementalist was that it was quite easy to feel changes that may develop around it. The ice was known, but Ryu made no mention to it. Lifting his right hand perpendicular to the ground as a small breeze blew rythmatically throughout the field of battle, he stood with a smile upon his face. He was quite ready at this point. Upon lifting his hand, a few oddities began to form within the forest. Lump of earth began to buldge in a few key areas beyond the eyesight of his opponent, surrounding the perimeter of the clearing in which they were standing on all sides.

"Yo."

That was all he said.

(( Well, so much for ice cliches. domokun ))

The icy surface was getting rather slippery and hard around the swordsman. With the ice spreading at an ever increasing pace, not only did it act as a hampering - should the foe rush in or when the foe decides to attack in which the swordsman does yet know how - it also acted like a sensor, the terrain being mapped out through his ice and giving him just briefly a slight advantage.
Should any unnoticed attacks arise out of the ground itself.

But not wanting to waste any precious water or moisture there is in this arena, the damp dews and what water there is in the trees, the grass or the grounds...
Started to dry up, being assimilated into his presence and being harness into dense materials which he can use later on.

By then, he responded, two consecutive clicks making itself audible just beneath both his bracers hidden inside the cloak.

"Let's skip the formalities, shall we?"

And with it, the swordsman stabbed the frozen ground with his left blade, a dull burst of wind exhaling out of contact.

((Lol))

The smile never left Ryus face as he watched his opponents actions. Lifting his left hand directly into the air while still holding his right arm perpendicular to the ground, he responded. "Lets, but Id rather you not put that sword any place where I cant see its tip." With that said the earth rose up within the cut the sword had made, forming a small pillar that was the exact size and shape of the stab his opponent had made. The sword flew from its position in the ground while the pillar took its place. It glew a dull red color but that would be most of what his opponent would be able to take into his thought process before needles came flying from the pillar in all cardinal directions. The swordsman had found himself in a predicament for even if he managed to notice the pillar before it left the ground, he couldnt hope to move far enough out of the range of the rain of needles not to peirce through his clothing and skin. The needles that came towards Ryu merely took a change of course and began to revolve around his body and right arm, his left hand dropping back to his side after the pillar left the ground. Meanwhile the lumps within the forest began to pulse a dull red as a faint glow became apparent behind the hair of his head.

Oh, the needles were a bit unexpected.
But moving away from them?

Why should he do that?

The shifts within the ice foretold him of a presence rising out of it prior to execution. And - having acute thoughts that nothing good would come out of something that's coming out of the ground...

His stab, although spat out by the earth-like object, already did what he was planning to do in the beginning; have his blade come in contact with the ice. Like a triggering mechanism, the contact was what the swordsman needed; anything else other than the objective is just excessive use of his strength.
So as the blade reeled back from the earth-like pillar, the ice which the sword had come into contact with rose up like a small shell and --

Whoosh!

The bombarding needles impaled not the swordsman's cloth nor flesh, but was instead deflected within the concave curvature of the small object towering over it.

Earth user, is it?

It's still premature to use what he'll have to do to improvise, but he'll gather up the remnant energy during the process. With more caution in his voice, he barked a brief command;

"Let's go."

And with it --
The frozen surface of the ground reeled itself up into the sky, forming what seems to be a rather large creature, quite a few meters or so in length made of ice - a snake-like form - before it suddenly careened towards Ryu with rapid haste.
With the swordsman surfing right on top of it. Deft motion with his left blade gave the implication that he is manually navigating the creature to slam straight into Ryu. And with the front end of the creature's form bared like a snake ready to strike...

He'll have to start his round of deception in order to build up the momentum to fight Ryu with ever increasing power.

BOOM!!!!!!

Oh the wondering of having such techniques that always left his opponent guessing. He couldnt hope for a better reaction to his small manipulations for he could reserve his energy further more and use his own opponents defense as a weapon. The needles, hundreds of them fired into the concave ice wall, did not simple deflect off its elegant design. Oh no. As the swordsman may have noticed his wall would come tumbling down and all the kings horses and all the kings men would not be able to put it together agian nor save him from the shards of sharp pieces of ice that would be blown into his body from the force of the gathered needles. Oh how great it was. The halarious part of it was not just that his opponent was now faced with the daunting task of saving himself from.... well, himself, but the fact that the pillar, not broken or removed, was still fireing needles through the midst of the explosion that blew up on command of Ryu. It was a wonderful scence of sharp shards and destruction all around that would give the fans something to cheer about quite early in the match.

Ryu, mean while, was not moved by his explosion, the needles around him not yet triggered by any means while he watched will all patience to see Snows reactions. Unknown to snow there were several places around that were going to become a downfall to him if he wasnt careful. Yes this match would quickly become a battle of the mind. Ryu just hoped he wouldnt have to think too hard just yet.

Oh.
Combo breaker.
So that's how the foe wants to play. Fine by the narrator, who finds the interruption...not amusing at the least. But just because the needles are packing explosive forces doesn't mean that the narrator would just sit idle and let Ryu take the initiative.

No.
If the swordsman's move is broken, then the narrator would give the appropriate response to regain the balance in this round.

In this context...
Ryu's little play did surprise the swordsman. But what impacted the swordsman wasn't ice.
No. The explosion, instead, caused the ice to melt partially, just splashing the swordsman with nothing more than ordinary water. The shell wasn't designed to be dense in the beginning - just enough to deflect, halt and get the job done.
Under the cover of the explosion, the water was being absorbed back into the swordsman's cloth. But as he felt what the needles were packing, the swordsman instinctively did what was needed when he took a step back from the buffering blow --

More icy curvatures were erected like an defensive egg shell immediately during the explosion before the ice around him suddenly thickened, the pillar base being snapped off like a twig from the force of the ice surrounding it. The swordsman was pretending to be at the disadvantage by retreating a few more steps, erecting multiple barriers of higher elevation that would severely buffer the onslaught of explosive needles in front of him and some - perhaps - from the sides while the frozen ground beneath kept any hidden surprises Ryu would throw at him at bay. At the same time, the ice which was spreading on the ground throughout this time gave him the distance needed to do one thing;
While Ryu is focused on the swordsman's reactions and being distracted - or gloating, under the swordsman's act in having his gestures filled with distraught or grimace, the ice has already crept beyond the foe's position, spreading about, lurching suddenly and --

Firing a sudden, large viper-like form immediately from behind, fangs bared towards Ryu's blind spot; straight at his back.
The intent?
To take a nasty bite right at Ryu's back without the opponent noticing it or hearing the silent sound of its attack.

His initial idea in the stab was to trigger a form so he can ride on and judge later using the blade as a trigger. But with the things being improvised...
Same method, but different action.

And the ground that was to be the swordsman's downfall?
Well...let the narrator simply say that things would not be in favor of Ryu's expectations.

If this were a game of chess, this would be where Ryu were to call out "check!" Ryu was not fool hearty enough to gloat over just having his opponent on the run. No, whe he was pinned down and submitting would be when he would indeed start to gloat. The smile continued to play on his face as the swordsman retreated. In some ways he had him on the... bloody hell. The earth would scream to him as the snake rose from ice that had crept behind him, something he had first thought to keep in mind but let it slip from the forefront of his brain. He didnt need to do much however, being that the ice was ontop of his sensory element. Feeling a rising substance from the ground, he immediately went to guard his rear, his foot pressing down upon the ground, sinking into it as a wall of earth shot up behind his back. His enhancer helped him with his quick reaction time, allowing his mind to process and faster execute the commands that he gave out to his limbs and their extentions. The snake rammed into the thick wall of earth, its fangs sinking into it before the wall litterally fell ontop as Ryu gave it a hard one legged mule kick. Now his opponent had retreated a few steps, guarding his front and sides from attacks. What about his rear. He held no bareing against rear attacks nor had his ice had the chance to spread out into the forest behind him. The stationed lump of earth took aim like a gun turrent upon the back of his opponent. One shot was all it needed. Fireing like a bullet from a chambered cannon, a compressed ball of earth left the lump, aimed to hit the swordsman hard in the back. The time it took for it to reach the swordsman would be like that of a bullet taking to reach its target with the same bang sound any gun would have. But, unless the man had an enhancer like Ryu or foresaw this attack coming, he doubted he would escape without harm like before.

The snake rammed into the thick wall of earth, its fangs sinking into it before the wall ----

Unlike Ryu's special ability to cause things to explode, the swordsman has other ways of getting past...defensive parameters erected in front of his attack.
The bite sank in, digging deep into the defensive wall Ryu had erected.
But it didn't push forward with blind brute force.

No.
The snake started to revolve while relentlessly pushing onwards, the front end of the snake's form morphing into a drill-shape after contact --
Suddenly drilling straight through the wall in a short few seconds, the force now focused onto one small focal point in front of the swordsman's attack; reducing the amount of resistance it faces instead of hitting like a sledgehammer, and also channeling the momentum to burst straight behind Ryu's back for a possible impalement.

While the gun turret may be employed during the meantime to take care of the swordsman's unguarded rear, the question is -
Is it really unguarded?
Certainly the swordsman knew better than to leave his rear undefended.

But in all reality, there were other means for him to detect and foresee what Ryu is hiding beyond the outskirts of this forest.
How can he tell?
Because of the water he'd been draining off from the grasses and the trees just before the fight started, and so on since then. Their connection, faint as it may be, allowed him to gather more intelligence and information on the surrounding terrain.

It was during the little show that Ryu did with the earth-like needles did the swordsman notice the uneven lumps just beyond his visual range. Uneven changes that were not natural or followed the flow of the natural terrain.
Did Ryu forget that the swordsman too, was an elementalist? Just in the content that he only specializes in the use of water manipulation and its relative connection to wind and ice - his trademark being the uses of ice and water...

If and should the gun turret fire, the swordsman already had something prepared for it.
It's much easier to counter against an attack that follows the route one has given purposefully; in this case, the intentional lack of guard in the rear.

But that is, if Ryu still wanted to have the turret fire when the snake is seconds away from burrowing through the earth-like wall, and straight through Ryu's body.

The swordsman did have an interesting way of breaking through his defenses. The wall would begin to crumble away at the drilling snake but this wasnt too much of an issue for Ryu forced the wall to topple over ontop of the elemental beast. It would not only change the angle of the drilling snake to force it to burst up and above his head, but this was only if it managed to make it through the wall before it completely made it through. Even if the angle wasnt affected greatly before it bursted through, Ryu would do something rather simple, hed, drop his body low, dipping down so that the snake would fly over his head reguardless while earth still revolved around him. Now the gun turrent move would still be fired off. Reguardless of the mans ability to map out the arena and any changes to it, like Ryu, he still had things that could quite possible catch him by surprise. If his opponent assumed that he had forgotten that he was facing another elementalist he would lose. As the bullet flied towards his opponents rear, the earth itself would begin to take on a slightly different color, going from a red to an orange color as the glow from Ryus forehead grew brighter. Things were about to get hectic for his opponent and everything was working the way in which he wanted it to go. Meanwhile his chest began to feel like it was on fire.

Oh, he isn't forgetting the elemental thing anytime soon, the narrator suggested. By all means, the explosive use of the needles made of simple soil has given the swordsman enough information to use.

Long story short - being on the ground is a killing field for the swordsman. Vaguely he wondered if each and every shot of Ryu's is packing an explosive punch like the needles...
Bah. No use in worrying over things he can't predict.

If he can only get a clear shot at Ryu...

The swordsman twisted his left hand to be parallel to the ground quickly in compensation, the snake which Ryu had ducked past not stopping and reeling about to try another attempt to bite the sucker;
But instead, have another set of bared fangs burst out from the icy body - another version of the snake itself careening straight down to bite on Ryu's head suddenly, without warning.
Or whatever body part is available to it.

This would be one of his surprise attacks with elemental manipulation - using sections of the main attack to deliver another attempt without loss of timing if the main assault missed. And whether or not the attack would land was of no concern to him by then -- for he sensed the disturbance beneath the soil from his ice - the seconds before the lump of dirt fired at his back. Assuming that the projectile would explode like the moves Ryu had shown, he immediately hopped into the air --
Ice rising beneath him, slamming straight onto his boots and hurtling him high into the skies before it too rose up to follow its master into the air later on, the sound of the bullet then reaching his ears as the projectile passed far beneath where he was just a few seconds back.
Cold sweat broke on his skin, but he tried not to show it on his face or expression.

Too much focus on landing the attack nearly had him forgot about whatever sneaky plan Ryu was planning.

As he was in midair, the swordsman would then slam both his blades together - a deep chime reverbrating throughout the arena and grabbing the attention of the uninterested spectators before he --
Ran in midair.

Not down, nor falling.
But running in the middle of the air, icy blocks forming underneath where his boots would land and giving him some leverage for motion. Only for a short while, of course. As he can't just simply stand in midair without falling like a brick due to gravity, his hopping from one point to the next was putting him directly out of immediate threats that Ryu might be planning.

While also letting the swordsman charge up more on the surrounding moisture in the arena and the atmosphere.

A second ice snake from the main body. That was quite a surprise. Even with his enhancer it would have been hard for him to move out of the way without taking some damage. Good thing for him his opponent had found a way to dodge his bullet. The projectile sweeped past his opponents past position and continued forward.... straight over top of Ryus body and directly into the body of the second snake. The force itself was more than enough to peirce the body of the snake buts that was not what saved him. The ice was nearly what stopped the bullet so it could. Upon impact the earthen bullet expanded itself, breaking apart the creature while covering Ryu with a slab of earth. Here, he breathed a sigh of relief. That was way too close for comfort. Meanwhile, his opponent in the air, two other turrents had taken aim for his opponents airborne body, fireing two more projectile shots. One came from behind the swordsmans position, the other from infront. This bullets were different. They seemed to be puddy like if one could catch their form despite the speed at which the traveled. Meanwhile, the earth now began to hum, if one could all it that as the glow became a bit more apparent.

His chest began to burn a bit more as the needles of earth that had been rotating around his body now dropped to the ground, some ontop some beneath of him. Quickly they moved over his body, layering upon his skin while more earth from the ground slipped under his clothing and took over his body. The earth compressed upon him, its color changing from its earthen look to a color that matched his exact skin tone. The glowing of the earth stopped, at least the earth that was upon his body, so that it wouldnt be noticed what he had done. This was becoming interesting.

Damn. The sneak attack got intercepted. But what the attack failed to do in damage, at least the shards of harmless ice was now mingled into the earth that Ryu has then wrapped himself in.
He might not know what the hell the foe is planning, but he'll at least have a heads up with the mingled ice acting like his sensors to warn him about Ryu's actions.

More water gathered about, moisture in the sky being dragged towards the swordsman's cloth and body in general. As if having some means of aerial mobility, the swordsman was freezing small pockets of moisture in the atmosphere to act like stepping stones, resisting the tug of gravity for as long as possible as he climbed higher in elevation, making him a smaller - and harder - target to be hit by with projectiles or speeding bullets.

As soon as he saw a projectile heading towards him, he did by then have some seconds to react. Short as it may be, the longer distance meant that there was more time to react to the incoming....pudding missiles.
He changed direction in midair almost instantly, kicking off to the sides and going at a perpendicular direction in which the projectiles were aiming at.

He saw what happened to his sneaky snake when it got hit by the bullet.
And he certainly can confirm that the sucker has explosives wired on everything that can be fired as a projectile. Somehow, one way or the other, but that's not the main problem of concern he's facing right now.

Seeing the pudding-like missiles miss him by some meters or so, slabs of ice was forming in curve-like formations surrounding his presence, acting like some means of defensive wings in case those things were...well, homing.
And explosive.

With the cloth fluttering violently in the wind, the bracers whirred to life as he pointed his left blade towards Ryu's position, ice which followed him from the ground up impacting the swordsman's body --
And being drained straight into the gears themselves, especially the blades.

The swordsman is preparing something big.
And just like Ryu, the clash in the next post is going to go with a deafening bang.

((Well I over slept....))

-Check-

This would be where another one of his pieces cornered his opponents king. Oh how tricky the elements were when used to their fullest potential. He loved it despite how he was almost caught off guard himself with his opponents own trickiness. Now his opponent thought he had means to track Ryu but he neglected to realize that the ice was not appart of the dense bullet. No, the bullet merely peirced the ice creature then expanded outwards. This would push all of the ice out and away. Granted some Ice had fallen upon his body being that it was pushed in all directions but that would be taken care of momentarily since it was by no means a part of the earth. Now Ryu had his own means of tracking his opponent in some sense without actually seeing him. Tiny bits of earth and dust had mixed itself in the air, some of which clung to the water that he was so graciously taking in to himself. How had the dust and dirt gotten there? Well, the spectators didnt have to assume since alot of dust and dirt from the previous explosion had kicked up alot of it and even thrown some "harmless" bits upon his clothing despite the walls he set up afterwards. Now his opponent had dodged his attack. This wasnt much of a set back at all. Ryu would have been surprised if the attack did connect with his opponent. What his opponent neglected to realize, like last time with his snake, was that the shots had a certain trajectory. They were fired at the same angle from directly opposing sides. This ment that they were on an intercept course for each other if they didnt hit their target. They slammed into each other...

-Freeze-

Time slowed down to a meremoment here, the two orbs nearly frozen to truely see what was happening here. At that moment all kenetic energy was being transfered and the orbs had reached the point in their motion where they had completely stopped. It was at this moment that their trajectory changed once again, the angle of a single orb aligning itself so that once it began it motion again it would fly.... straight into the back of snow? Yes, within that given moment Ryu changed the trajectory just enough so that a single orb would riccoche straight into the back of snow who was only a few yards away at this point and with no idea that the bullets could do such a thing. Super putty anyone?

-Unfreeze-

The momentary stop would be over and the object would fly towards snow with great speed, the collision shaving on just a tiny bit of its velocity as it soared through the air towards Snow. Yeah, he was in a bit of trouble now. Snow was busy preparing for something and probbaly thought that he had completely escaped the orbs indefinatly. Yup, there was a storm a coming.

Now Ryu was out of sight upon the ground, under his shield of glowing orange earth. His chest ached from the burning sensation that had taken over and sweat began to mix itself within the mixture of earth that he had taken over his body. His outer body temperature had started to begin to rise. Any of his past opponents, if they could feel the change, would be wondering what was going on. During past matches he never had such a hard time with heat let alone stay under the sheild of anything for so long. Something grand was happening and the swordsman had alot to learn about Ryu. He had only touched the surface.
