For now, please don't post unless you're Tweek or Raikha. ^_~ A walk in the woods..Tweek A light pattering sound drifted through the trees as a small cobalt pup darted through the northern woods, crisp leaves crunching under her tiny paws. Surrounded by the overwhelming earthy scent of an entire forest of deciduous trees, Nessa gave a soft whine of delight. This was the furthest she'd ever been away from the riverside, her home. Large olive green eyes scanned this way and that, short feathered tail wagging back and fourth with a mind of its own. Any fear that Nessa might have felt, having lost track of her father about fifteen minutes ago, was suppressed by her greater need to explore, and her insatiable curiosity. Raikha Resana blinked and looked around at the trees. A noise! Aha! It was probably another frog! She whirled around, forgetting the frog she had first started hunting to it's muddy hole by the spring. Nose in the air, she sniffed, trying to catch any sort of scent. Big, still-unfitting paws pit-patted through the bushes as she started towards the sound. Tweek The blue and cream pup's dark ears swiveled to alert, her body becoming stock still, muscles tensed with apprehension. Uh-oh.. maybe it hadn't been such a good idea to forge off on her own.. But then another pup, dark brown in color, scampered into her vision. Nessa relaxed at once, her tail beginning to wag. " Hey!" She let out a friendly bark, a smile spreading across her lips as her light pink tongue lolled slightly. " Who are you?" Her tone wasn't rude, rather that of someone pleasantly surprised. Raikha Resana blinked and yipped in surprise. A wolf! With her new tracking skills, she could never really tell what made what sound just yet. "Hi! I'm Resana, who're you??" she iquired, her own curiosity growing. Her tail waved back and forth excitedly. She'd not seen another pup for a long time, it seemed, but this one seemed to be really nice. Tweek Nessa stamped the ground with her front paws, lowering herself into a playbow, the universal wolf symbol for fun. Unable to keep still, she trotted a circle around Resana, almost as if sizing her up. " My name's Nessa! I came from the riverside. It's my first day here." She came to a stop in front of the dark female, her tail still keeping its gentle wag. " Where did you come from?" She tilted her head, wondering if Resana had a Mommy and Daddy as well, and if so, where were they? Did she sneak away like Nessa did? Raikha Resana watched Nessa and tilted her head. Hrm.. this behavior was.. new, yet.. oddly familiar. "Um.. idunno. I just remember I been around here-ish for a couple days.. " her tail slowed a bit, thinking. Did she have a family? With other wolves like Nessa? With her short attention span, she forgot the subject and her tail resumed it's enthusiastic swishing. "Where's this.. riverside place?" She padded to a bush to peek out around the otherside, where Nessa had been coming from. Swinging around to look back, Resana watched Nessa, hoping she'd take her to the riverside. Tweek The cobalt pup took a deep sniff, registering Resana's scent in her memory for later, before plopping herself down on her haunches. She scratched at the ground with the blackened toes of her front paw as she regaled her new aquaintance. " Oh.. it's really pretty. There's a river where mom catches big silver fish--but you have to be careful not to fall in--" Nessa added gravely before continuing. " And there's a meadow where Daddy takes me to play sometimes. It's.. um. It's in someplace called North of Here." The little pup paused, as if Resana's first comment had only just registered. " Waaait.." She said, drawing out the word in her mouth. " You forget where you came from?" Raikha Resana blinked a couple times, trying to remember. Her memory blocked out bad images, and left her mind blank. "Umm.. nope. I don't." She tilted her head and her tail, having paused, waved the idea away. "Well, maybe if I see where you come from, I'll remember where I come from!" She padded around in an anxious circle, then stopped suddenly "Oh.. Um.. what's a siillver fishh?" She said, trying out the words. Tweek Nessa tilted her head with a smile. " You can come see the river sometime if you want. Dad would just have to show you the way." She didn't mind the idea of another pup hanging around, and doubted her brother and sister would either. Nessa's eyes widened at Resana's question. " Have you never seen a fish?" She whispered as if the very idea was blasphemy. It hadn't occured to Nessa until just now that fish lived in water, thus wolves who didn't live near water might not have encountered them. " They're weird looking! Like.. maybe a log. All long and skinny. But big! And, they're shiny!" She slid her body down to the ground and leaned forward as if she was imparting a great secret to the other. " And... they're really, really slimy!" Raikha Resana grinned in her up-ish way "Slimy, eh? Cool!" she pranced around Nessa, excited now.. slimy things were always welcome! "Just lead the way!" Resana remembered seeing little fish in the spring near where she'd been, but she could never get a good look at them, much less get close enough to feel them, they were just too fast for her. Tweek Nessa hesitated a moment, one cobalt ear folding back against her head, and then the other. She pursed her lips, glancing down at her inky paws. " Weelll.." She strung out the word once more in a singsong tone. It seemed to be an unconscious habit of hers. " I guess I kind of..." The pup racked her brain, trying to think of a euphemism for the phrase 'got lost.' " ...Forgot which way I came from." She turned her olive eyes to Resana, as if asking for advice. A tiny bit of forgotten fear bubbled to the surface. How would she find her father in a forest of this magnitude? Raikha Resana looked towards the bush she had looked through a moment ago "It's that way.. you came from thataway" she nodded, then peeked out through the bush again. "Mmhmm!" pulling away and looking at Nessa again, Resana nodded a bit, her tail wagging happily.. and hopefully "I'm sure if we just start off that way, and make some noise when you think you're closer to home, I'm sure he'll find us.. Or maybe another wolf will and we can see if they can help us" she glanced back at the bush, hoping she was right.. Tweek Nessa glanced around the clearing, still a little disoriented. Ohh.. Resana was right. That copse of pines seemed vaguely familiar. She glanced back to the dark colored pup before shrugging. She was game. Ears still slightly tilted back she gae a tentative nod. " Well.. Alright. That way it is! Pulling herself to her paws she shook the dried nettles from her fur, padding a few steps forward, then glancing back over her shoulder to check if Resana was coming, tail wagging gently. Raikha Resana followed, padding alongside Nessa. Awesome! She had a new friend, and she was gunna get to see some other wolves! It seemed like a long time ago that she vaguely remembered her own mother and father. What happened to them? Pushing the ideas out her mind, childish enthusiasm took it's place "So this is the right path, right?" she asked, looking around at the bushes and trees to try to remember them. Tweek Nessa swallowed, glancing around. It did seem like she'd seen this path before, but it was impossible to tell. Her tail still wagged, but with less certainty than ever. " I..." She shook her coat, as if that might clear her mind. Maybe... " Yeah, I think s--" " Nessa!" A basso rumble exploded in the tiny pup's ears. A muscled black wolf stood in front of the two pups, blood red eyes sweeping the two before him, his features written with a mix of anger and relief. " Daddy..." Nessa cringed slightly, offering a smile. You're up, Raikha! ;D

Resana lowered to the ground, very scared by the looming figure above. She gulped and her eyes nervously twitched toward Nessa. Uh oh. Maybe adventuring wasn't such a good idea? This big wolf looked mad..

Nessa smiled nervously up at her father, tail wagging, wide olive eyes staring into his in a picture of innocence. She might have been young, but she was old enough to know that the best thing to do when a parent was mad was to feign confusion and look as cute as possible. "Daddy... I couldn't find you..." She trailed off crouching down as her ears flattened back. It seemed to do the trick.
Yero let out a breath of air as he felt the anger leave his body. His daughter would be a manipulative she-wolf someday. "Nessa..." The male heaved his shoulders in a sigh. "Don't go sneaking off again. You scared the daylights out of me." Feeling guilty, for she had never meant to worry anyone, Nessa lowered her eyes to the ground, then stole a glance at Resana.
At last Yero's sanguine eyes swept over the delicate earthy-colored pup. "Who's this, now?" He asked the question openendedly, leaving it up for grabs in case Resana wanted to answer for herself. The previous boom was gone from his voice and it was now back to it's low and gentle state. The black wolf offered the new little female a smile, wondering where she came from. Had Nessa made her first friend?

Resana cautiously stole a glance at Nessa before eyeing the looming wolf above her. Full spirited as she was, and assuming he'd not get so mad at a pup that wasn't his own, she found courage and stood up taller to introduce herself "I'm Resana, sir!" she grinned at the floor, trying not to laugh at how silly 'sir' sounded to her ears. She never remembered ever called a wolf sir, but she vaguely remembered hearing other pups say it to her father, in some distant, fuzzy memory. It seemed to suit this case, since she wasn't exactly a part of Nessa or her fathers' pack.

Yero gave a small smile. The pup was as young as his little daughter but she had puffed her chest out and called him 'sir,' seemingly aging before him in the process. He appreciated the respect, but there was no need for formality here. "A pretty name. You can call me Yero, Resana," He wagged his plumed tail gently in an almost regal air of welcome. "I'm Nessa's father." The black wolf flicked a pitchy ear in question. "Where are your parents, my dear?"
"Daddy," Nessa rocked back on her haunches with a ubiquitous expression, unable to contain herself. "She can't even remember!" She gave a yip, glancing over at her friend again in case she'd gotten it wrong.
Yero's brow lowered as he gave thought to this. Was Resana lost or had she... suffered some incident? It was common for lost pups to roam the woods here. His own adopted mother Selia had suffered amnesia as a pup after a run in with two-legs. "Is this true?" He asked Resana with concern.

Still standing tall, Resana nodded her head. "Yep. I can remember some things, sometimes, but most of it if.. fuzzy." she tilted her head and settled on staring at Yero's chest, it wasn't easy staring straight up at him "I know there was a problem with two leggers, and then.. Idunno, I woke up and no one was there.. soo.. I been lookin' around for everyone, and heh" she chuckled a little, almost nervously "Well, I guess I got a little lost..." she looked up at Yeros face again, passing a glance at Nessa "But it's okay! I can be a big wolf! I even hunt now!" she looked at Nessa again and giggled "Pouncing of frogs is fun!" she shifted her feet a bit where she stood and looked up to Yero again, her tail wagging in her excitement. "So.. um.. yeah" she grinned.

Nessa regarded Resana with wide olive eyes in envious admiration. Resana knew how to hunt? Nessa hadn't even heard of hunting until the older wolf Harle had brought it up in the field the other day. And what in the world was a frog? She'd heard the word before so she knew they must be around the riverside, but she couldn't recall ever seeing one.
"I see..." Yero pursed his lips, in thought. So Resana knew of two-legs. That was rarely a good sign. He didn't doubt that her fuzzy memory had something to do with something bad.
"Daddy, can Resana come see the river? Nessa's ears perked forward. "And the fish?"
"That might not be a bad idea." Yero rumbled ponderously. "Resana, would you like to stay with us until you find your pack?" Yero didn't want a pup out on her own, but he couldn't snatch her up if she thought her family might be close enough to find.

Resana eyed Nessa with a grin, shifting her feet with her tail whipping back and forth with excitement "Sure!" she looked back up at Yero, and, still happy and nonchalant, mentioned "Ha ha! Thank you Yero! I sorta don't think I'll find them now.. it's been two big moons and I haven't found another wolf since Nessa came over."
So she had someone to stay with.. This was getting to be a better and better day! Mm..pack! Right! Was Yero, and of course Nessa, in a pack? Who was the alpha? Resana tilted her head at Yero. It could be him, but, was he? She didn't see any signs of his mate nearby, and somewhere in her fuzzy memory was a very close-knit pack in her past, with everyone constantly being kept in check.
"Yero?" she decided to ask "Are you in a pack?"

Nessa gave a high-pitched bark of excitement when Resana accepted the offer, scrub of a tail wagging. She couldn't wait to show the other her home.
Yero chuckled at Resana's question. "I was in a pack, but my mate and I left to bring up our family in the lands where we grew up together." He smiled, his ears tilting forward. "I guess we have.. what you could call a 'family pack'. Nothing official right now. Although..." The idea of a pack was an interesting idea. Yero hadn't fit in with the wolves in his mother's pack, but with his family and perhaps a couple friends.. it would be good for his children to have more contact with other wolves. But did Yero have what it took to be an alpha?
Nessa glanced up at her father, then back to Resana. A pack? She tilted her head slightly in naivety.
"You're welcome to stay for as long as you'd like, little one. But we should really be heading pack. It's almost nightfall and you two must be getting hungry."

Resana took a moment to notice that her stomach was quite empty. "Thank you Yero!" She nodded and looked to Nessa, then lowered playfully, her tail high and wagging "I am getting a bit hungry.." She grinned and growled in her little high pitch tone, playing with Nessa. Should she? Unable to resist, Resana took tohe opportunity and pounced on Nessa, tumbling over.

"It's no trouble at all. " The midnight wolf dipped his muzzle towards the pup, crimson eyes locking on her own.
Nessa gave a yelp of surprise as a brown blur bowled her over. What! What was--Oh! Nessa fell into giggles as soon as she realized Resana had sprung on her. A playgrowl rising in her throat, she pawed at Resana's flank, rolling herself upright once again, bouncing in the other's direction.
Yero stifled a smile at the two pups playing and shook his head fondly. "Alright, you two, lets get going." He padded a few languid strides off towards a thinly worn deer-path, glancing over his shoulder to make sure that the two pups would follow.
"Resana! As soon as we get home you can eat the fish!" Nessa was practically prancing as she ambled a couple steps closer to her father's heel.

Following, Resana padded alongside Yero and Nessa, looking around the area. Her eyes fell on the path, and she started thinking as they walked. Had a two-legger been through this path before? She longed to find a clearing with a tall boulder to climb, or a mountainside, to listen to the wind for an answer. Though she blocked a chunk of her memory from herself, she did remember spending much time with her old packs' shaman, and listening to the wind together. The old wolf had allowed her company because she was the only pup that could sit still long enough to hear the winds' song.
She brought her focus back to the present, however, hearing no wind through the trees. Resana looked at father and daughter as they padded towards the river. She sighed, jealous, and watched the brush under her feet, then suddenly she noticed the sounds of running water. Oh! She'd heard that before, right? Just.. not exactly the same.. "We're close!" she wanted to see this river now, and her tail started wagging excitedly once more.

Nessa tilted her head as a bird flitted by, canting her muzzle to follow it's wandering path. As the twilight fell over the lands, the last bars of dying sunlight filtered through the trees, creating spangled patterns on the male and the pups. Nessa glanced toward Resana, tilting her ears back slightly. She wondered what the other was thinking about.
As the trickling sounds of water grew more pronounced, a whole new set of smells began to fill the air. The deep contrast of the thick smell of the wet earth, the clear smell of the running stream, the sweet scent of tall rivergrass...
Yero smiled at Resana's comment as they neared the ridge of a hill. "Almost there. You'll be able to see it from here."
Nessa pattered up beside her father's figure on the hilltop, beckoning with her muzzle for Resana to join her at her side. "That's my home!" The puppy said sheepishly, glancing out over the landscape.
A lazy river wound its way past the bottom of the hill, muddy waters twinkling in the fading light. The fish were just beginning to jump for their evening meals, splashing hear and there about the water's bubbly surface.
Nessa motioned to a thick patch of fuzzy cattails growing around a comfortable looking den, scuffing her front paw against the ground. "That's where we live." She wagged her tail gently.

She looked over the landscape before her and licked her chops "Wow." was all she could get out. Like a meerkat, her eyes flitted from one thing to the next, trying to absorb it all as quick as she could. Finally, Resana's eyes settled on the den. Glanceing sideways at her friend, she pronounced "I like it!"
Her eyes began wandering again, still in awe of their cozy home. Looking at Nessa, then Yero, then back again, she asked "And your mom and brothers and sisters and grandparents, and aunts and uncles all live here too, right?" Grandparents. She remembered them, she thought, if vaguely. Her mothers' dad, he was the shaman. Her father's parents, Resana didn't remember too well, but she was pretty sure thy had been around somewhere.
But here, she saw no other wolves. Nessa's mother and siblings may be in the den, but no aunts, uncles, or cousins around the territory? Had Yero broken off from his pack, and his immediate family exiled? Were all the other wolves hiding from her? Even more importantly, did this mean Resana was to become an omega here?! Memories of pack and family life slowly seeped back to her, and her mind meandered.

Nessa grinned at Resana, and giggled when she mentioned 'aunts and uncles and grandparents'. "Grandparents? What are those?" She yipped, naive olive eyes filled with question. "Mommy lives here. And my brother Marzi and my sister Lia. But it's just us..." She tilted an ear back hesitantly.
"I'm sorry we're a little secluded." Yero apologized, realzing that Resana must have come from a pack, and perhaps even a large one at that. He glanced at the little brown wolf with deep red eyes, face impassive to the questions running through his mind. "But we'll get you fed for the night." The gentle-natured midnight wolf gave a slight smile.
