So I'm leveling a druid at the moment with intentions of hitting 70 and switching to Restoration.

My question is regarding which talents in the resto tree to set aside. I'm probably going to be a Tree form, yet I see people specced into Tree form with talents that effect Healing Touch (Empowered Touch, Tranquil Spirit, Naturalist, ect.). I was just planning to abandon all the Healing Touch talents, but now I question it.

Your input?

I'm not a druid expert, but most Resto druids I run across PuGing Heroics & lame t4 raids do not heal in Tree form, unless they're offhealing.

Treeform is handy, but not really meant for mainhealing. Resto druids work really well with other mainhealing classes, but because their primary heals are HoTs, and bosses tend to like to take big chunks out of tank's hp in one hit, its not practical to JUST have druid healers.
For this reason, a lot of resto druids completely forsake the use of Healing Touch, which is big, slow and clunky, but not really synergetic with the rest of their heals. I still use mine in emergencies (pop Nature's Swiftness and then instant-cast it, saves a tank 100%) but TBH your talents could probably be spent elsewhere.
Some fights its just a bad idea to have because of its slow move speed, and in fights where fast positioning is important, its just not practical. Also, other healers in the raid shouldn't depend on the healing aura to be efficient. Its just less hassle to stay out of tree.
Although its dance is awesome, I personally dont feel like a resto druid without it, and its just 1 talent point ffs.

When you hit 60, switch to resto.

I'm a resto druid, but I pvp. When I actually go to BT and Hyjal I see all the other resto druids in tree form if they're correctly speced and they do not have the tranq or healing touch talents. WoWwiki is your friend for builds biggrin

Although it does depend on what you'll be doing with your druid, I personally leave out all Healing Touch and Tranq talents for raiding. I also have some in balance (helps a little in Hyjal when you get hit with the debuff that makes you a useless healer. Pew pew time). Imp thorns is a nice little addition to your tanks, and if your pallies, priests, and shammies are doing their jobs right, you shouldn't have to resort to a HT. Yes, you shouldn't rely on HoTs to do all the work, but they do help a LOT. Especially for fights with AOE silences. Regrowth + rejuv + 3x lifebloom + keeping in time with boss timers = major help to the other healers.

What she said. I have tranq and emp healing touch talents for just that. Naturalist is a waste of talent points, unless you're feral.

I remember back in the day when you would sit and spam healing touch rank 2 on the tank. Couldn't have more than one kind of HoT on a tank ///wrists
