Ahh... Nothing beats fresh fish! Snowfall is unusually far from her beloved Cold at the moment. She has some rare free time and is using the time off to explore downstream the Swift Cold River. Deep Woods is less crowded along the river since a territory near the water is a bit too open for the taste of most Sentinels. Her travels have brought her to the point where the Swift Cold River and the Swift Open River meet. This looks like a good enough place for catching dinner.

Meanwhile Sycamore is fishing for company, or perhaps a snack. A careless Mus keeper must have lived near the point where the two rivers meet since there are usually plenty of half wild Mus-mouse crossbreeds running around there. All he has to do now is to sit very still and wait for a careless half-Mus to show up. If anyone asks, he's busy Watching...

Specific details: Snowfall and Sycamore are actually in the same tree, but as long as they sit and wait for prey they might not notice the other Sentinel. As soon as one of them moves or tries to swoop down on their prey, however, they will probably be spotted by the other immediately.

Oh look at those tasty little treats! Sycamore thought to himself, almost unable to contain his excitement as all sorts of plump little half-Mus wandered around, and if he stuck at the right time, he would dine very well. He was almost embarrassed at himself, but nobody was watching the hungry Sentinel right now.

There were a couple of half-Mus playing together, carelessly getting closer to this tree. But alas, not close enough yet. Patience Syca, patience... He began to preen a chest feather to keep his mind occupied, still watching the morsels out of the corner of his eye.

Keeping very still upon her perch, Snowfall watched the cold river flow in its continuous mellow rhythm as she waited to catch sight of a medium sized morsel to fill up her empty stomach with. She shifted her position a little to look further up stream, a very slight breeze gently ruffling her feathers. She wanted to get back to her territory before the snow in the cold northern reaches began to fall, but she'd had ill luck with fishing thus far.

To her relief, she spotted a suitable fish making its way downstream. Slowly extending her wings for flight she dived down from the tree and towards the free flowing river, her talons reaching out to grab the unsuspecting prey. When she had it within her grasp she swooped up to land within the nearest tree. The sudden noises caused by her actions had alarmed all nearby small animals into hiding.

C'mon, just a little bit closer.... Sycamore coaxed the Mus in his head as they neared close enough for him to snatch them up. His eyes darted with them, following their play path. One would run up and pounce the other, the other would chase the first one to return the favor. This would be their last game, oh huhuhu! Almost there. He shifted on his perch, at the ready. Set...WOAH.

He nearly fell off of his perch, his wings barely catching him in time from his mis-dive. There was a small splash, then silence. Sycamore sat for a moment, gathering himself from his near fall, and trying to find out who caused the disturbance. Not only that, cost him his meal! Fuming, he looked to another tree, and spotted the Sentinel that just ruined his night. He took off, silently landing on a branch closer by. He'd have a word or two.

Slightly fluffing up her feathers and shaking herself, Snowfall made herself comfortable on the new branch, the fish flopping helplessly under her foot. Sinking her talons further into its scaly flesh she picked it up and proceeded to tear at its head with her beak.

After she'd eaten a bit of her catch, she turned her head to check the premises, doing so she caught sight of Sycamore. Not having much interest in another Sentinel being around she pretended to have not seen him and resumed her eating.

So she's going to ignore me, huh. Sycamore flexed a talon on the bark of the tree, tearing slightly into it and sending some bits falling to the ground. He sat there, watching as she enjoyed her meal. That's what he should have been doing right now, enjoying a half-mus lunch.

After a little bit of watching, he finally decided to speak, or at least make sure he hadn't become part of the scenery. Despite his annoyance, he'd try the peaceful approach. "Good fish in this area."

Snowfall swallowed the piece of fish in her beak, then slowly turned her head just far enough to see the other Sentinel. "I personally prefer the ones further up stream, they taste better in the colder waters" she stated. Hoping that showing little signs of interest in conversation would perhaps make the other Sentinel discontinue, she returned to eating the fish.

The flavor was indeed not as pleasant as the other fish, but she needed to eat something before her flight back north. It was good to fish in other areas every now and then to know all that the waters have to offer, but so far she'd yet to find something better than the northern fish.

Suddenly the air is pierced by a fledgling's distressed call, followed by a splash. If Snowfall or Sycamore turn towards the noise they will be able to see something small and black disappear under the surface and then bob back up, gasping for air.

A fledgling on the ground is dangerous in itself. A fledgling in the water... well, Sentinels don't swim and it will not be able to keep its beak above the surface for very long. It's a small miracle that the unfortunate shadow hasn't been completely submerged yet.

The water is shallow, but the current will soon have dragged the fledgling towards deeper water. If they want to act, they'll have to do it quickly.
