Inserting the screwdriver, he pulled the last screw out and took off the face plate, revealing the innards of the toaster he was tinkering with. A splash of crumbs dropped onto the porch and he mindlessly kicked them into the flower bed below with the toe of his sneaker. A noise from the street caught his attention and he glanced up just as the big truck pulled to a screeching stop in front of the house. Setting the toaster pieces on the porch, he bounded down the steps and grinned at the deliverymen who were unloading his new bedroom set.
Following the workmen to the bedroom he shared with his twin, he watched eagerly as his new bed was plopped down. It was bigger, being a full which would mean more room for the two of them to move and shift while they slept. He jumped onto the still covered mattress and then frowned as the man entered with another bed identical to his. "What's that?" The man looked at him like he was crazy and Thobias jumped down, hollering as he ran. "DAD! They screwed up. We got two!"

His students were enjoying a night off as he was taking both day and night off...seeing as he was waiting for deliveries and then he was going to be putting things together. At least it meant that he'd get to spend some time with the wife and kids more. Which was nice. He was leaning against the breakfast bar with a cup of coffee, watching things being brought in and looking occasionally over his shoulder to the back door where the dogs were watching through the glass at the going ons inside. As well as his daughter whom was outback with said dogs...knew he didn't have to worry about her too much as long as they were out there and the windows were open so he could hear her if anything did indeed happen. Frames and mattresses that he would be putting together, and hopefully they would get slept in.
Till now, the kids had been sharing a room and a bed. Well they were getting older and they couldn't sleep in the same bed forever, but him and Sam didn't want to completely isolate each in their own room yet. Thus the bed compromise. The twins would get separate beds, but in the same room and they could each personalize their side of the room more. Separate rooms would come later. A raise of an eyebrow and he set aside his coffee as his son came running and he picked the boy up. "No yelling in the house, you know that. And they didn't mess up. Mom and I got two beds. One for each of you."

"I had to get your attention and I didn't know where you were." He'd heard the man tell his parents that once the deliverymen left, the sale was final. The rest of the furniture was coming in another week once it had been delivered from the warehouse. Big gray eyes blinked at his father before his lips pulled into a frowny pout. "We don't need two. Lici can sleep with me like before."
She headed into the house, setting her work bags down and tucked her hands into her lab coat pocket and glanced at the dry-erase board on the wall. Picking off the marker, she crossed out the entry that referred to the beds. "The desks should be here in three days. What's wrong, Toby?" Coming over to get her normal welcome home kiss.

Xearus merely signed what needed to be signed with a confirmation on things as people got out of his damned house. Hated random people in his house. "Now now, don't pout. You're both growing up and you can't share the same bed forever." Handing the boy over to his mother as Sam came home and he pressed a kiss to his wife's cheek before he headed to the back door, opening it for the dogs and calling Lici in as well, the girl happily skipping in and over to her mother. "He's upset about the new beds."
Hugging her mother's leg she gave a nuzzle at her hip before a blink up and a tug at her brother's hand, seeing as she didn't like to see him upset and clearly he was. Both parents said so and he was pouty looking. "Why are you upset about our new bed Toby? Does it have too much room for monsters to live under it?" She of course knew they were getting a new bed...but she had neglected to remember the plural.

He wasn't anymore pleased about being passed off to his mother but he squirmed to be put down which he duly was. Thobias pouted at his sister. "We don't gots one, Lici. We gots two. Dad said we don't get to sleep together no mores."
"Have, Toby. We don't have one." Correcting gently, she fluffed Lici's hair and dropped to Thobias' level. "Toby. You're still sleeping in the same room with your sister but you two are getting too big to be in one bed together. That's all. Now you both have your own bed so you can roll around as much as you like and not bonk into each other. And now you can have rocketship sheets if you want." Glancing at Xearus then shaking her head and turning back to Thobias. "Why don't you take Lici up and show her the beds sweetheart?"

And cue frown for her as well as her brother let her in on the issue of the moment. "But we always sleep in the same bed!" Looking to her mother as she offered further explaination. "WHy don't we just get a bigger bed for both of us then? And I need him! If I roll he stops me from rolling out! I'll hit the floor and the under the bed monsters will get me!" Eyes getting that glassy look as they welled up with tears at the thought of that happening. It was not a fun though at all!
Oh this was not going well...he could see there was going to have to be some major convincing and palcating to do here. Sighing he rubbed at the back of his neck in stressy motion. "Come on you two, you can watch me put them together and everything." Turning a look to Sam. "You want to risk cooking or is it a take out night?"

"No, it's not okay! I don't want rocketships, I want Lici." Glancing at his sister as she put two and two together and came up with a horrendous death. "They won't get you, Lici, 'cause I won't let them." Hugging his sister tightly and then wrapping an arm around her protectively to follow after Daddy. "Can I help?"
Nope, not good at all. Neither of the twins were taking the news well and she and Xearus were going to have to find a way to make this work. The twins had been sharing everything since they were born. "I'll order pizza."

She snuggled into him, it was one of those times where he was more protective of her than she was protective of him as per usual. Did not like the monsters under the bed thing at all. And she knew they were there, she'd seen them. "But you'll be so far away..." Exaggeration since the room wasn't that big really.
"Make sure it has black olives and I'm happy." Looking down at his kids again and giving a nod. "Sure you can help." Maybe the kid would enjoy the bed more if he was in on the making of it. Ushering them upstairs he made a stop at one of the closets and grabbed the little toolbox that was stashed there before heading into the kids' room. "And since you have beds to yourselves, you each get to own half of the room and can make it look anyway you want." Starting at taking off plastic on things.

"No, I won't. Don't worry." He had no intentions of sleeping in a separate bed from his sister despite his parents thinking this was a good idea. He joined his father, thinking of the screwdriver that was still on the front porch. It would be very bad to forget to bring that in. Helping his father take the plastic off his sister's bed, he waited to be told what to do next.
Taking the two boxes from the second deliveryman to visit their residence, she signed the receipt, tipped the boy and blinked at the dismantled toaster on the porch. Thobias had been tinkering again. Taking both the poor toaster and the pizza inside, she set them on the counter and headed upstairs, popping into the twins' room. "How's it going?"

Well this should be easy...he had put a crib and a pervious bed together and he was sure he could do this. "How about you help me read the instructions just to make sure we don't mess up and you can help tighten bolts and the like, okay?" Setting out pieces as needed he opened the tool box, pulling out an allen wrench. "Thobias did you take my screw driver again?" Because he was going to need that as well. Turning a look to Sam he shook his head, "Ciò sta andando essere più dura di abbiamo pensato."
While the men were working on things, she was sitting on the bed they shared that was still in the room and watching them. Still did not like this at all and thus she had grabbed her puppy plush from the bed and was hugging it. Still watery eyes turned to her mother as she came up. "I don't like this mama! Just get ONE bigger bed!"

"Okay." He was distracted for the moment so he didn't argue just nodded and took the booklet of instructions. He hated the way they used really big words sometimes but that was alright. "This one goes here, Dad." Pointing to appropriate bars and the wood it corresponded to. "It's on the porch 'cause I was using it."
Sam caught her son's gaze and quirked an eyebrow. "You took apart my toaster, Thobias. And left the pieces on the front porch." Xe could deal with that further. She had an upset daughter to handle. "Potremmo dovere fare questo nelle fasi. Ma interferiranno sopra abbastanza presto. Forse verniciamo una volta?" And on to Felicity. Sitting down next to the little girl, she wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "I know you don't, baby. Toby will be right across the room in that bed over there."

"Possiamo sperare soltanto." Because this was going to be hell if not and he didn't want to deal with hell. Especially with finals coming up for his students which would give him even more lack of sleep than he was already getting because he'd be grading papers. A blink though, "Oh Thobias, the toaster? You know to leave the toaster alone...how is your mother supposed to cook her breakfast otherwise. Now run and get that screwdriver." Said as he was rearranging the pieces as his son said, turning a look to his wife. "No worries Cielo, I'll fix your toaster...or buy you a new one and he can have that one. I should start getting him old thinsg to take apart."
She was still pouting and not happy at all. That was the jist of the situation at the moment. "But that's not close enough...I'll roll and fall to the floor. And that will hurt, then the monsters will get me!" Still convinced of this series of events, seeing as she was a bed roller and it usually was her brother's body that stopped her from falling out of bed at night. "How come we have to change it?"

"It burns stuff!" He protested then turned and headed downstairs but found the screwdriver and dismantled toaster on the counter with a box that looked suspiciously like pizza. Peeking, he hurried back upstairs with the screwdriver. "Pizza!" Giving his dad a grin and handing over the required tool. "Can't we eat first?"
Nodding to her husband, she tugged her daughter into her lap and held her. "No monsters are going to get you, Lici. Daddy will scare them all away, I promise. And we'll put something on your bed to keep you from falling out, okay?" This was definitely going to be harder to work through than they'd originally planned. "Because you're both getting older and as you do, you're going to change. Thobias loves baseball and you like dance, Lici. And what about sleepovers with your friends? You can't have sleepovers with your brother in your bed."

"It doesn't burn stuff, that's your mother's doing. She sets it too long sometimes." Going about starting on the bed frame as the child ran off, only to come back and happily announcing pizza was already here. Taking the screwdriver he set it in the toolbox and ruffled his son's hair. "Yeah you can go ahead and eat first with your mother and sister." He was going to work on these beds he supposed. Best to get it done soon as possible.
She merely gave a sniffly nod to her mothers words, still hugging her puppy. Still didn't like the thought of all of this but she supposed she could crawl into her brother's bed if need be at night. "But mama, I don't have enough friends for a sleep over. You gotta have even friends and I only have odds." Which meant it didn't work. A little huff then, though she perked at the news of pizza. "I'm hungry." Because she, like her father, could be evasive to things that upset her.

"I was trying to make it easier for her to work, Dad." Because they all knew his mother couldn't cook very well. She managed the microwave alright but she couldn't seem to work the toaster. "Okay! Come on, Lici. Pizza!"
Sam chuckled softly and shook her head. "What do you mean odds, Lici? You only need one friend to sleep over, sweetheart. What about Miranda? Or Ardrianna? Or one of your other friends from school?" But it was time to get some food into little tummies. "Come on you two munchkins, let's go get food." Walking over and crouching down so she could loop her arms around Xearus' neck and nuzzle him. "Casanova...you have to eat. Then we can put the beds together....together." Using what they fondly referred to as the 'eyebrow' tone.
