It was cornered now, she'd followed it all the way here, trudged through the sandstorms, avoided the muddy swamps and now the end was near. The time had come to end their short adventure, she was going to put a stop to this once and for all... Lifting one, feathered hoof forward, Vieno eyed the enemy, all the chaos it had caused her, all the problems she faced getting here and now it was her time to shine! Before she could advance again, the butterfly fluttered over to Vieno, landing on her nose. She held her breath, staring at the beautiful insect and soon giggled as it finally flew away. Chasing it was no longer an option, she was out of breath now, although chasing it to the ends of the earth had been quite an adventure.

It had all started when Vieno had been grazing in the meadow, getting her fill of the sweet grass when the butterfly landed right in her way! She'd almost chomped it to pieces! Feeling mortified with herself, the palomino mare had chased it around in an attempt to apologize. After avoiding a nest of wasps, almost getting eaten by a giant fish and nearly falling off a cliff, the mare had definitely had her fill of adventure for the day. Maybe now that she'd gotten so much done in such a short amount of time it was time for a nap! Well, perhaps not, the day was still young and naps were for foals!

So, spirits high and energy a little lower, Vieno made her way over to a tree to rest in the shade for a moment. Perhaps afterwards she'd go explore the unknown, for today was an adventure day! As she reached the shade she sighed softly, yes... today was for adventure but she needed... just... a little... break. Whew, she hadn't realized how much that had really taken out of her! Maybe if she just closed her eyes for a few minutes... and with that all her thoughts of adventure faded away.

He had by laying in the shadows of a patch of trees when the mare came into the area. He had watched her in his half-drowsy state with slight curiosity. The reality of the situation had not quite reached him. It looked as if the mare was going to kill a butterfly but changed her mind? Even.. laughing about it? She was a pretty thing, he had to admit. Almost the perfect example of innocence, if it could take on a physical form. It was that thought that reminded him of who and what he was. A slow, twisted grin came forth, showing teeth that were still stained with blood from his last meal. It was a pity that he was not hungry, but that didn't mean he couldn't have his fun.

The large Skinwalker pushed himself up off the ground, his claws scratching the base of the tree and tearing into the earth as he did so. Those claws had seen many battles, had snuffed the life out of many creatures. Perhaps soon another would fall prey to them? Then again, perhaps not. Perhaps this innocent beauty could be hurt in.. deeper ways.

"A mouse has walked into the wolf's den," he snarled in his raspy voice, as he walked out from under the trees and towards the mare. "What shall I do with you, little mouse?" Perhaps this one could provide a source of amusement and if his appetite came back while in her company.. a meal as well.

Sleep didn't come, well it did but it didn't last! Vieno was still a little exhausted when she opened her eyes but her spirits were high when she noticed another near her, and speaking! Naive as she was, she didn't exactly know what a skinwalker was so the smell of rotting corpses and the blood on his teeth didn't bother her. It should have, but it didn't. Feeling better than she had moments ago, her eyes sparkled in excitement and she trotted closer to the strange and almost frightening being. Never judge anything by its appearance she'd been taught, maybe if she'd been wiser she would have run away while she still had the chance. Not Vieno, she gave everything the benefit of the doubt even when it was obvious there was no way she was going to befriend something.

She soon realized this creature was talking about a mouse so she quickly glanced around while stealing glances at the skinwalker. He was a strange thing, looked almost like a horse aside from the giant wolf-like feet and strange pelt that covered him. Well, she wasn't going to judge him before she even knew him but... where was the mouse he was talking to? It occurred to her that he was looking in her direction while talking, wait... was he talking to her? "You mean, I'm the mouse?" she questioned, not quite sure she understood, "My name's Vieno but I suppose you could call me Mouse if you'd like. Do you have a name?"

Something was wrong, she recalled the mouse in the wolf's den comment and made a funny face. Why would a mouse be in a wolf's den? Wasn't that a silly idea? Although she'd been trying her hardest not to judge, something in her stomach flipped and she felt as if she were in the wrong place at the wrong time. As interesting as this creature looked there seemed to be a few things that weren't quite right about him... If he turned out to be a bad character she was in trouble. Just incase, she looked behind her, only to find a tree. Well, if she needed to run she wasn't going to go far, unless she planned to run through a solid object. Once again her stomach did flip flops, and she tried a fake smile. What happened to not judging before she knew him...?

He wasn't sure if she was genuinely clueless or if this was some clever tactic she was using to keep his attention away from killing her. If it was the latter, it was working. He found himself curious at the innocence she displayed. It seemed real. Surely even the most skilled deceivers would be unable to pull off a flawless performance in the presence of a Skinwalker?

"I have a name. I have many names. None of them pleasant enough to fall on your ears, I'm sure." The large black stallion grinned from ear to ear. "Want to see a trick?" he asked but before waiting for an answer, he stepped forward her and his body began to change into the form of a wolf. Once done, he started to circle her, keeping his eyes fixed on her face. Would she show awe? Or fear? Would she start to realize the danger she was in? He found himself curious to what her reaction would be.

"I'm not like you," he pointed out, despite it being obvious by now.

The feeling in her gut was still there but she decided to push it back and listen to the strange stallion. So, he'd met others who didn't give him nice names? It made more sense now, he was just a tortured individual who thought the whole world was out to get him. Vieno had met someone of that sort before, of course it's hard to change their mind when their lives were set on it. She had to think for a moment before blinking at him and trying to reply, "I uhm... I'm sure your name's lovely, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to though." Okay, so that probably wasn't the most intelligent thing to say but... it was something? She sighed, her ears flicked back and she looked down to her hooves, lately she was horrible with conversations.

Hearing him talk about tricks made her cheer up, she looked to him and smiled, about to nod and tell him yes. There wasn't time to reply really, because before she'd gotten a chance he started changing. It wasn't a pleasant sight, watching an animal change from... horse-like to pure canine but... she was already fairly disgusted by his smell. There was no turning back now! Unlike wolves she met in the past, this one looked quite terrifying, extra long, sharp fangs and a twisted expression on his face. Well, things weren't always what they appeared to be! "That's a neat trick," she smiled, "Not sure I'd want to change into a wolf though..." She was talking more to herself than him now.

Lost in her own thoughts now, she answered with a quick 'Hm?' when the stranger had spoken again. Realizing what he'd said moments later, the mare shook her head and replied, "No, no you're not. That's not really strange though, everyone's different in their own way." If this stallion was truly confused he had a strange way of expressing himself. Well, like she'd just said, everyone was different and of course no one was going to express themselves in the same way. "You don't have to feel different though," she tried, speaking with a gentle and caring voice, "There's always someone who'll accept you for who you are."

Curious.

He found her simply curious. Perhaps she was far more mad than he. An unstable mental state was the only explanation for her to be so clueless and naive. He wanted to burst that innocent bubble and watch the wave of fear come pouring out. Could that happen? Could he break through her blind shell? Once again, he found himself curious.

How did a creature like her manage to live this long? Perhaps others had taken pity on her. He would not. If he let her live, which he very well may as he was not hungry and she was.. amusing, he wanted her to at least leave a little damaged. A little unpure. He'd never be forgotten if he could scare her or teach her about fear. He'd always haunt her dreams. He was starting to like the sound of that.

"Let me put it this way. I eat mares like you." And with that he started to run around her, snapping at her legs with his sharp fangs, careful to not really bite her. He was hoping to scare her, nothing more.

He... ate... mares like her? Well, that would explain the smell but it made little sense to her really. Was this some sort of plan to get her to leave him alone or something? Maybe he really did eat mares like her but if that were the case, why hadn't he eaten her yet? She knew wolves had dangerously sharp teeth and quite capable of eating her but... why would they? Especially when there was much easier prey to catch all around them. She quickly snapped out of her thoughts when the wolf came snapping at her feet. Side stepping, so she was no longer backed up against a tree, she then stomped her front hoof. "Now really, that's not very polite, even if you do plan to eat me!" she exclaimed.

Having never been faced with a problem like this before, poor Vieno didn't quite understand how to deal with him. She didn't realize that sometimes things liked to play with their food... especially when she tore grass up without a worry or care. In her mind it was all a game. Although, the smell of him and the feeling in her stomach seemed to make her slightly nervous. Flicking her tail behind her she darted away from his gnashing teeth and tried to figure out what was really going on here. Deep down she wanted to believe this was just a game and the strange wolf-stallion thing didn't really have any plans to eat her but something inside kept telling her that this wasn't fun and games, no something here was actually... dangerous.

Gathering up what little courage she had left, now that horrible thoughts of being eaten plagued her mind, she planted her two front hooves on the ground and snorted at him, ears flying back to click to her skull. "I think that's enough, you don't see me crawling about the ground and snapping at your feet now do you!" she snapped at him.

Okay, so she was the prey and she was telling the predator what to do? She somehow doubted that was what happened in real world. Even so, after a short moment she had a bit of a guilt trip, who was she to tell him what to do? So, taking a deep breath she sighed and relaxed, once again believing this... thing... wasn't going to hurt her if she wasn't incredibly rude to it. "I'm... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you. You just... caught me off guard is all," she was sincerely sorry but... most would have asked why?

The wolf turned around and jumped away from the mare, once more taking his equine form. He slowly placed his front paw on a stick between them and lowered one of his claws to tap on it gently while he thought about his current situation. There was no way anyone could be that naive. He was starting to believe that the only one playing a game was her. The claw came down in one final move, snapping the stick in half.

"No, I don't think it's enough at all. I think it will be enough when this area is covered with your sweet blood. I think it will be enough when I can taste your flesh rolling down my throat. You see, I was just toying with you before. I had recently fed and thought you were amusing, but the thought of your body writhing in agony before me is making my appetite come back. No one could be as naive as you. Oh, I almost fell for it. You're quite the little actress, aren't you? The innocent act can stop.. now."

He walked over and bared his fangs. Her neck was so close. So tempting. Something kept him from snapping into it though. Perhaps he was still curious. How would she react now that her game had been revealed?

He changed forms so quickly, she just blinked and watched as he quickly went from wolf to... wolf-horse? Her gaze lowered as a clawed paw tapped on a stick for a moment and she flinched as he finally snapped it in half. Oh no, this was no game and she was going to be in trouble soon. It was frightening, coming to a new land and not knowing the terrain or area well, then coming upon something dangerous without really realizing it. Though, Vieno figured as menacing and evil as this thing was, it had to have a heart deep down... didn't it?

"I didn't... I didn't mean to bother you... sir," Vieno tried, hoping not to insult this strange creature anymore. "I just figured you needed some help that you were feeling a little down.. or... or something." She didn't really like the sound of being ripped apart and eaten, that would have been a horrible way to die! Die... she was going to die...? Oh what a terrible day this turned out to be, what was she going to say to all her friends? Nothing... she wouldn't be able to say anything because she was going to die... right here... in this spot... for insulting something strong and vicious.

Side stepping slightly, she moved so that the tree behind her was no longer there. Never before had she run from a stranger, even after giving them a fair chance but this meeting no longer seemed safe. If she was going to get a chance to run... she was going to. Although, she doubted she could outrun this beast... it was certainly worth a shot. Maybe if she lived she could ask someone about this creature... were they all menacing and... wolf-like?

"Oh, but you did bother me, whether you meant to or not and that kind of thing has consequences." He was finally starting to enjoy himself. Though daft, the mare was starting to sense that danger she was in. He liked having that kind of power. The power to make or break someone. To decide if they should leave or die at his paws. It brought an enjoyment that was unlike anything else he ever experienced.

"You may leave," he started, digging his claws into the ground. He was about to let her go and nothing bothered him more than showing mercy, but he had to remind himself that sometimes it's more fun to have witnesses. To have people spread the world of his acts. To mention him. To spread fear of him. "You live because I let you live. You get to leave because I am going to let you leave. Every sound in the shadows could be me. Every cry in the night could be caused be me. You never know when I might be nearby, waiting to finish this. Run, little mare. Run and embrace the life that you almost lost today."

With that, he turned and walked back to where he had been napping before. Was he making the right decision in letting her go?

She wasn't going to let him think twice about his decision, for as soon as he told her she could leave she was right on it. Every word he said grabbed her and made her quiver, she'd known fear like this only once before. This animal screamed danger and Vieno no longer wanted to be close to it. She tried to tell herself that this stranger had some good qualities about him, for if he hadn't why would he have let her go? Then again, she worried he was just waiting for a better opportunity to strike. He was going to follow her, he'd be in the shadows, just as he'd said.

Well, she was going to try and get as far away as possible before that happened. If he was going to find her, he'd have to go an awful long way before he got to her.

With that thought, she galloped away as fast as her hooves would carry her. She looked back a few times, making sure he wasn't following her, but never once did she slow down.
