Thrillseeking.
That was the farthest thing on his mind when he left the teepee that fateful day. He was watching the birds when a spitfire of a mare divebombed them all and he found himself entranced by the girl with the silver tongue. He'd never expected to find such a perfect partner in his life -- even if it was for a friendship and partner-in-crime-ness...not a mate.
And she had feathers.
Wings were enough to make the violet stallion swoon; something he'd always been drawn to, whether it be markings or actual feathers. Wind mares were elegant enough for him...though perhaps if he met an Angeni, he'd think differently about the little chicken wings compared to a fullblown eagle's.
But Carmine was a chickenwing and a thrillseeking one at that...and, quite frankly, he was obsessed.
((sorry for the HORRIBLY sucky post!! :/ ))

Feathers indeed. Carmine's favorite tool and feature had to be her black feathered wings. They were useful in most every situation. Whether it be flying, shielding herself, fighting, or cooling herself off. They were quite wonderful and they had one more use.
Catching the eyes and hearts of stallion's everywhere. Stallion's like the sparkly, black maned, bright eyed Tavarii.
He was one of the cutest things she had ever seen. He was almost like a wolf pup in equine form though not nearly as dangerous. What he happened to be was friendly, energetic and eager to please all of which were things that Carmine found to be quite lovable. Thus, Tavarii himself was quite lovable.

It wasn't just Carmine's wings that caught his attention.
It was the way she tossed her head, the way her pink mane framed her face when it settled, the glitter in her eye that told mare and stallion alike that she was the best, end of story.
Plus the small, silver ring laying on a cord at her chest bone; a ring she'd stolen from her father, a master thief himself, as she'd said.
Hell, who was he kidding? For a boy like him, this girl was just...perfect.
And, as he waded through the knee-deep river, he kept one ear focused to swivel on sounds around him, hoping to find the black-winged angel who always seemed to evade anything she wanted to.
Like Dark. He wanted to meet this stallion. Why would you run from your own dad, anyway?

She lay in the shade wondering just what her goof was up to now. Terrorizing more badgers perhaps? She giggled remembering his face after the event. It was so pricelessly adorable. If she could she would have stolen it and kept it in jar, though, that would be rather creepy she imagined.
Well, if she couldn't steal someone's face she would just have to go steal a look or a visit from him where ever he happened to be. She smiled, stood, and stretched out her legs and wings preparing for take off. Just as she was about to fly a glint on a tree branch caught her eye. Her inner-klepto-voice began to speak and without a seconds thought she flew up and snatched it up. She dropped it into a small pouch slung around her neck by her father's ring that was there just for such an occasion.
As she began her ascent out of the trees she felt something smack her flank. She turned a bit confused and found a group of rather angry looking squirrels standing there, armed with acorns. It seemed that someone was not happy to have their treasure stolen. She sighed and rolled her eyes getting rather used to such events as these. In a few seconds nuts were flying every which way as the small bushy tailed army tried to bring her down.
"Can't ya thank me later?!" Carmine cried bursting out of the trees sending a shower of leaves and branches to the ground below. She beat her wings a few times to stabilize herself in the air and another nut flew up and smacked her square in the forehead. "Ya stupid jerks! What're ya gonna do with it any way?" She cried angrily before flying off to find the river. She needed a drink, and to get away from those rabid bushy-tails.

Of course, Tavarii was listening for hoofbeats...not wingflaps, so his focus was on the ground; normal for a Normal soquili like himself.
Suddenly, birds skittered out of a nearby forest as something crashed through it. Or someone. Tav's muscles tensed as a large swarm of little birds flew overhead, escaping the 'danger' he percieved to be there. Perhaps it was a Kalona... Or a Skinwalker...
Quickly as he could, the stallion hopped up onto the other side of the shore and hurried to hide behind a tree, as if that would hide him. And he expected a bat-winged Kalona to swoop down and spear him with a large antler-spike-thingy.
No, he wasn't too bright.

The glint of sunlight off the water hit Carmine in the eye and she blinked. Glancing down she saw the water and something darting for cover. She blinked once again a clearly confused look in her brown eyes. That was weird, but then she had caused a bit of a stir getting away from those squirrels. She shook her head and tilted downward to swoop gracefully to the ground. She would have to apologize later if she saw them but right now she was thirsty. That came first.
She landed a bit harder then she had intended sending a few pebbles bouncing up into the air. "Darn...and I thought I was gettin' good at landings too." She muttered trotting over to the bank. She lowered her head and began to gulp water down ignoring the slight tug on her long mane from the water.

Tav hid behind the tree for several minutes as the shadow descended from the sky to make a crash-landing (okay, perhaps not a -crash- landing, but an ungraceful one!) near the riverbend... Right where he'd been just seconds ago!
He felt a shiver go through him and he peered around the tree, ready to march up to the Kalona and/or Skinwalker and ask them to leave, politely, before taking off in a frantic gallop for his life, when interest sparked. It didn't occur to him that most Skinwalkers couldn't -fly-.
That voice! He recognized it! And though he couldn't tell from the back, when the Wind mare leaned down to drink, he saw the swing of a very familiar necklace. With a whinny, he loped from his hiding spot and to her side, nipping at her neck with a lopsided grin. "Carmine! I thought you were a...er...well..." Yeah, it sounded really stupid. "Kalona?"

Carmine chocked on the water from the quadruple shock she had just received. First she had assumed the one hiding was timid so the whinny had startled her. Second the same person had decided to come up right next to her and nibble on her. Third said person knew her name and fourth she knew said person's voice.
"T-tavarii!" She sputtered out between coughs as she turned to look at him a large smile on her face. "S'great t's-see ya." She coughed a few more times before giving him a half stern look. "D-don't do that!" A couple minutes later she was able to breath normally again an readopted her smile.
"Ya thought I was a kalona?" She asked clearly amused by this. "Sorry but I'm not nearly ugly enough t'be one of those beasties." She continued to smile at him as she tossed her head to settle her hair in a manner that didn't look so much like she had just gotten attacked by a wild rabbit. While she was very happy to see him she wasn't showing it very well, she was still a bit startled that he had been so close to her.
"Ya know...I was just thinkin about ya...and well...here ya are..." She said sounding a bit puzzled. "Ya magic or something goof?"

Tav grinned, nearly hopping into a half rear as she turned to see him, honeybrown eyes gleaming as she smiled.
"Carmine," he murmured, prancing to stand beside her. With a coy grin, he peered out from under beaded bangs. "I was hoping you'd be here. It's fate, I tell you! Not magick, fate!"
Goof... He loved it.
He stared at her for several minutes, trying to see her with large bat-wings and a pair of demon horns. Nope... "You'd not make a good Kalona...but you'd make a Kalona look good, if ya know what I mean!"

"Fate huh?" She asked tilting her head to the side. Then she imagined it was fate to get attacked by a bunch of squirrels too. She made a face at this trying to get a good look at her forehead where the last nut had hit her. After a few short moments of trying to see an impossible sight she gave up and refocused on Tavarii.
"Course I'd make em look good. Bet I could make anythin' look good though." She said with a flip of her hair. She wasn't sure he was right about that though. She had seen Kalona and their horns were not something exactly pleasing to look at and no way were leathery wings nicer then feathers.
"So anyway, what brings ya out here today goof?"

"Yep. Fate," he nodded. He believed in Fat moreso than anything else. Just like it was Fate that he didn't have a horn to weigh his head down... And if he did have a horn, he'd break it off. Because he didn't want one.
He paused to watch her study herself, then looked her over, gaze resting on her wings. Her beautiful, black satin wings... He tried to imagine Kalona wings instead, bat-like and covered in leather. Bleck! A shiver ran down the stallion's spine at the idea.
Tav offered her an ornery grin, sidling up beside her. "I could see you as a foxy skinwalker, even!" he admitted, running his muzzle over her flanks. "Covered in a fur-coat of jet black with room for your wings. You'd be a flying minx."
With a leap, he landed sqaurely in the river, taking a drink while looking up at his...girlfriend? (What would he consider her? Close, beautiful aquaintance mayhaps?) at a new angle. "I was actually just...wandering around...looking for you. See? Fate came through."

She laughed trying to imagine herself as a skinwalker. "Ya know if I was one of those beasties you'd be lunch right?" She asked before lifting a wing to shield herself from the splash over water. It missed her but she was taking no chances. She was not up for a swim today.
"You were lookin for me?" She sounded surprised, because she was. She lowered her wing and gave him a curious look. She knew he liked her but he had been searching for her? She could have been anywhere and with her wings anywhere really meant anywhere. Across the ocean or on the highest mountain peak if she wished it.
She smiled sweetly before moving into the water. She didn't really want to get wet today but it seemed like a good reason. She cocked her head to the side a mischievous smile on her face before beating her wings a few times against the water to splash Tavarii.
"Ya really are a goof ya know that?" She sounded a bit angry but the large smile on her face said otherwise. In fact she was pretty touched that he cared enough to go on what could very well be a wild goose chase. "I coulda been ages away." In a situation she couldn't help but agree with him about fate. The odds that they would be so close were astronomical.

"Okay, okay, you're right!" he agreed with a sheepish grin. "I like you best as a Wind! I'd like to keep my limbs attached!"
Tav pranced as she shielded herself from his water. He nosed it and flung a new spray at her, and then she did something that contradicted her previous actions.
She got in with him. And then splashed him. With a sweet smile that said, 'Ya shoulda known better from me!'
"Blargh!" he squealed, nosing water at her as he was drenched, sunlight glinting off his beads as he bobbed his now-wet head.
"I'm the goof? You just drenched me," he laughed, trying to sound just as offended though he didn't mean it.
She was right. She could've been over a mountain, so high that he couldn't even climb it to catch a glimpse of her. Or even across the world...like...to CHINA!
Pricking his ears, Tavarii lipped the black feathers with a flick of his tail. "But you weren't. You were here. But...what were YOU doing?"

She smiled triumphantly at the now very damp stallion. "Yep, you're the goof." She said with a nod before turning around. She took a few steps and was out of the water. She gave her body a shake to get at least some of the water off. "And ya deserved it anyway." She turned her head to grin at him over her shoulder, an ever playful glint in her eyes.
"Well...I was here...in that forest over there." She said nodding to the trees she had come from. "And I was just restin for a bit...then I found this." She reached down and grabbed the small pouch around her neck. She pulled at it and tossed her head about until a red jewel about the size of a robin's egg tumbled out. She smiled at it then looked back at Tavarii. "Then I got attacked by squirrels...and came here t'get water."
She left out the fact that the reason she had left her resting place in the first place was to go looking for him. She didn't want to sound like she was like Tavarii. Tavarii could be himself, she didn't want to be a little lovestruck puppy too. It would mean that she would be losing to her dad.

Damp was an understatement.
As Carmine waded out, Tavarii dropped to his knees in the water, slowly laying down. The sun was hot and the water was cool and he didn't like to be uncomfortable for long.
His eyes locked onto the rather large gem that dropped to the grass and like a flash, he was up at her side, dripping, nose to the ground to sniff it.
"This's gorgeous... It'd be a nice necklace!" he murmured, looking up at her and deciding that a necklace would be beautiful on her.
A lovestruck puppy was what Tav was, by nature, Carmine or no Carmine. Once he found something he fell head-over-heels for, he went for it. And just like he was drawn to beauty, like Carmine and her little ruby, ugly scared him and, quite frankly, sometimes even disgusted him. Like humans. They were disgusting flesh-creatures...
