From the way the cave had quieted down in the last few minutes, Taya had come to the assumption that it had all passed. Being a male, it wasn't entirely his place to be in the area of the birthing, especially since he knew many females typically got very grouchy and over-protective. He had heard the stories about them attacking their own mates when they got too close, and he certainly wasn't going to risk that, even if he would have never held it against her if she had. It was simply easier to sit outside the cave and watch for predators, keep guard in case something decided that a birthing mother and her newly born cubs were easy targets. It didn't stop him from worrying, or help the urges to leap into the cave and comfort her, but it gave him something to do.
Now that things had quited down, though, he found himself staring at the cave entrance from the distance he had moved. He approached slowly, peering into the darkness, hesitating at the entrance and blinking his bright eyes against the shadows. "Kinya?" he called softly, not quite ready to just barge in unannounced.

She'd been hoping for a large family and from the way she'd started to ache eariler the evening before she had a feeling she would get one, but she hadn't expected one this large. Now that she'd had a moment to rest and to clean everyone up she found herself with six little ones curled up against her and each other.
Six .... and two little boys who she just knew were going to end up thinking girls had cooties with being outnumbered bu the girls.
Her ears perked up slightly when she heard her mate's voice. "You didn't have to hide outside ..." She smiled softly as she shifted enough that she could see him. "Come see"

A soft smile spread across his maw as he heard her words. "It's my job to keep guard," he said lowly, knowing that there were sleeping cubs against her side, though he couldn't see them from his position. Regardless, her kind tone drew him in, and he soon found himself slinking through the shadows of the cave to sit slowly at her side, directly in front of the small mound of furrballs coiled against her.
As his eyes fell upon them, they seemed to simply stare, taking in each one with a little gleam in the depths of his bright orbs. For a long few moments, he seemed utterly speechless, simply sitting and staring in complete and utter awe. He shook his head slightly, as if to bring himself back to some form of reality, and glanced up at her face. "I guess you got your wish, beautiful," he said softly, flicking his tail as he turned his face to look down at them again, "six perfect little cubs."

She smiled brightly, even despite how tired she was after all that, and nodded. "i did .... They're perfect, and they remind me so much of you." From the little tawny ones to the ones with her coloration that had taken after his patterning. They were everything she could have ever dreamed of wanting.
"We even got a special blessing from the moon tonight.." She leaned down and carefully touched her nose to the side of the little white one. She just knew that one would be special.

He smiled at her words, leaning out slowly to nuzzle against the side of her neck. "They remind me of you too," he whispered, his tail snaking behind him as he looked down upon them. There was a lot of her blue in them, a lot of her patterning. They were easily recognizable as their cubs, and a part of him beamed with pride at that thought. They were their cubs.
"She's white, like my mother was," he whispered softly with a smile, picking up his tail and motioning with it to draw the attention to the small stripe of white there. "Though she had those cloud markings," he nodded at the couple of cubs that bore them, and then, almost as an afterthought he added, "and my father, he bore the scales." For a moment, he seemed to drift off into thought, staring at them with a sentimental gleam to his eyes. Then, with a soft laugh to bring himself back to reality, he glanced at her. "We've been blessed tonight to have all of them, each of them are.. beautiful." He couldn't stop saying it, no matter how many times he'd already done so.

She butted her head against his lightly as she purred softly. "I had wondered where those came from .. i just knew they had to be you." Their little ones had gotten things from each of them she couldn't have ever dreamed of. "I am glad they have bits of your family on them, hopefully they will pick up some on the inside too."
Taya must have come from a good family, being a prince and all, and she hoped that her little ones would get some of Taya's nature. "They're so much more than i could have ever dreamed of."

He laughed lightly at her head butt, his eyes shutting for a moment as he let the feeling wash over him. He was a father, finally, with a beautiful (large) family and a loving mate. He wouldn't have even fathomed this could happen before he met her, and yet, here he was - the proud father of such beautiful little cubs. "I'm sure they will pick up some things," he said softly, prying his eyes open to look down up them. His father and he might not have seen eye to eye about his future, but he had been a good, strong king. His mother, too, was gentle and beautiful - forever loyal to her king. If his cubs inherited even a bit of those traits, he knew they'd make him proud.
"Me too, my love," he whispered, slowly laying down, head leaned towards her. "We should name them," he said with a smile, glancing up at her, forcing his eyes to tear away from the little ones.

"I wouldn't even know where to begin." She laughed softly as she shifted a bit so she could learn her head against him. "... though they do remind me of the storms." At least some of them did. The rest reminded her of the grasses of the savanna and the sand underneath.

As she leaned her head against him, he propped his chin atop her head as well, staring down at the cubs as he considered what she had said. "They all remind me of something in nature," he said softly, his tail swishing as he looked down at the sleeping cubs. "Some remind me of storms, others of sand or grass, and.." He stopped here, trailing off as he looked down at the one solitary white cub. "And she reminds me of the moon."
He simply shook his head with amusement, staring down at the little cub in silence for a few moments. "What about Bahati, for the little moon cub?" he said with an airy tone in his voice, much like he used when telling fantasy tells.

"A blessing from Fortune herself ... it seems to fit." She smiled brightly as she nodded. She shifted her paws after a moment and lifted the cub with the two shades of blue that was laying on her arms.
"He reminds me of the sky before the rains .... Radi'Mngoja" She tilted her head slightly so she could half look at him.

"Fortune has given us many things," he said softly, turning to look down at her with a little smile, "it only fits to give one of them a name to show our thanks." They had so much to be thankful for, after all, and a namesake in honor was one of the only things they had to offer. He wanted fortune to shine upon them brightly, for as long as possible.
"Hmm?" he said slowly, drawn out of his thoughts as she picked up the little cub that was lying so close to her. "Yes, Radi'Mngoja," he said with a little smile, "he certainly looks like a cub born from a storm if I ever saw one." He just hoped that he didn't end up with a temperament to suit his name. His eyes drifted then to the golden female, leaning his head down to lick softly at the fur that matched his own. "What about Suvana?" he asked softly, staring up at his mate from his slightly crouched position. The little one was as bright as the others were dark and gray.

She smiled as she watched Taya lick the little girl. It was so ... she didn't even know if there were words for how good it was to see something as simple as that. It was a blessing on so many levels. "Suvana it is."
She reached out a paw and shifted the little white and tan cub who was trying to bury herself under her siblings. "She reminds me of the sand and the savanna ... Kizingo .... Kizingo'Nyeupe?" Probably a bit complicated for a little girl but she'd grown into it eventually. She had no doubt of that.

"Kinzingo'Nyeupe," he said softly, as if he were tasting the name on his tongue, repeating it after his mate. Slowly, his smile broadened once more and he nodded, turning to look at her. "I like that," he said softly, leaning in to nuzzle his mate softly.
Glancing down at the cubs, he let his eyes rest over the two that were yet to be named. He reached out with a gentle paw to touch the little girl sporting the scale markings over her forehead. "What about Kimbunga'anga, for her?"

The little scaled girl had surprised her. It must have bee from Taya's line and she wondered what the family member those had come from looked like.
"That would suit her perfectly." She leaned down and licked the little girls' cheek despite protests.

"And lastly," he said with a tilt of his head, leaning down to nose gently at the underbelly of the white cloud marked boy, "..perhaps Agenti.. Agenti'Tabaka?" He smiled as the little boy squirmed at the touch, sitting back up and looking at her.
"You should get some rest, love, you've had a hard time." He leaned in to nuzzle her cheek gently, "I'll watch you and the cubs.
