The soft steps of the spotted mare quickened as she moved further and further away from the two-leggers village. It had been so long since she had been out on her own and it felt wonderful to feel the wind running through her mane again. A loud whinny escaped her before she took off, galloping like the wind.
Her hooves thudded against the ground kicking up clumps of dirt and grass as she ran. The scenery slowly changed from the cluster of teepees to a river path and at this point she turned and headed straight towards the fields. The wide open area provided the perfect place to run freely or dance should she feel like it. Most importantly this was a place Scarlet rarely ventured to so she did not have to worry about the young mare following her.

The ground was a blur, hundreds of feet below. Myoa was out flying, as usual. It seemed that nowadays, either she was in the air, or with her family. Suddenly, Myoa was struck with an impulse to see somebody else, and she tucked into a near vertical dive. She wasn't lonely, how could you be, with a loving mate and children, and grandchildren on the way? However, sometimes a mare just needed to visit her friends.
The ground roared up in Myoa's vision; her dive had been painstakingly steep. Myoa sighed to herself--she really shouldn't have been so reckless. With a grace only an aging, experienced flier could possessed, she snapped open her wings, pulled smoothly out of her dive, spun around in a loose circle, and settled onto the moist, pebbled earth.. Only two shimmering gemstone feathers flitted to the ground beside her.

Lunathiel's pace slowed as something strange caught her eye. There was something bright green in the air much larger then a bird and it was heading straight for the ground. It only took her a moment to realize that what she was looking at was a winged horse. Though that didn't stop her from worrying a bit as it looked like they were simply falling.
She started moving again to get closer to the other, if they were falling they would likely be in need of help. The mother didn't make it far before the green wind pulled up and landed with a grace many fliers could only dream of. "That was quite lovely!" She called continuing her approach to them still too far away to see who it was.

Myoa looked up to see an approaching blue shape in the distance. "Thank you!" she called back, blushing slightly. She wasn't anything special, just well practiced. She began trotting towards the stranger Soquili, closing the gap between them.
A breath of recognition escaped Myoa as a familiar blue figure flashed into view. Curly mane and tail, bubbly swirls and markings, it could only be--"Luna!" she said, breaking out into a gallop towards her friend. She was by her side in moments. "It's been too long! How've you been?" She let out a neigh and pranced around her friend, like an innocent filly. "It's so good to see you!"

The blue mare paused at the sound of her nickname, a bit confused. Did she know this person? As the distance between the two closed she recognized the winged soquili heading towards her. "Myoa!" She cried in a mixture of shock and joy. It had been so long since they had seen each other that she had figured they were never going to meet again.
"It is wonderful to see you too!" She cried prancing about, a bounce in each step, like she had a couple years ago. A large smile had spread over her face, bigger then any she had worn for a long while, and she was afraid it might break her face. It faltered as all the events of the past flashed through her mind. So much had happened since they had last seen each other. She thought she would start with the good news first.
"Where to begin?" She said with a small laugh. "You remember Shadow?" She asked really hoping that Myoa memory was good. "Well...he and I are together...we have three kids." She smiled at the fond memory. "What about you dear, how have you been?"

Myoa laughed. "You and Shadow? Yes of course I remember him, congratulations to you both!" It had been far too long since she had conversed with either of them, but, she nodded slightly to herself, yes, Shadow and Luna did make a good couple. In any case, Luna's smile said it all. It was so wonderful that two of her friends found happiness with each other!
"Me?" She blushed a little, fondly conjuring an image of her mate. "Actually, I'm a grandmother now," she said, giggling a little. "God, I feel so old!" But even as she said it, Myoa felt a lighthearted giddiness bubble up in her, a renewed energy that sparked through her veins. "Oh Luna, it's so good to see you again!" she repeated. "We have much too much catching up to do."

She smiled and bowed her head almost embarrassed by Myoa's congratulations. It was hard to believe that at one point the blue mare had thought the wind had been trying to claim Shadow as her own.
Lunathiel's mouth went slack at the news. She was in shock. She hadn't even known that Myoa was a mother let alone a grandmother. "Wow...congratulations gramma!" She said a hint of teasing in her voice. She may have aged and matured but she still had her foalish moments. She laughed a bit at her own joke then calmed again.
"I know...it's been so long." She gave a bit of a giggle realizing that they were repeating themselves. "And yes we do...now if only we can get past saying 'I missed you' every couple words I think we'd get somewhere."

Myoa laughed good-naturedly at the teasing, and at her friend's surprise. "Hey, hey," she said, feigning offense, "The gramma part was recent! Last time I checked my son was still caring for baskets.....for the second time." She grinned sheepishly at herself and at Luna's observation. "Yes, agreed," she snorted amusedly. "Let's turn into the babbling old grandmamas we are!"
"So, how have you and Shadow been? And your children? When will you join me in the realm of grandmotherness?" she teased, twitching her ears in pleasure. It had been far too long since she had been about to just sit down, er, metaphorically speaking, and just chat with one of her old friends.
"And three children? I only have two, and they were a handful, how did you handle them? Are they all grown up now?" A little embarrassedly Myoa realized that she was babbling a rapid-fire of questioning, but she couldn't help herself. She was just too excited!

"A gramma twice over? My goodness! He got busy didn't he?" She grinned back then joined in the laughter. "Yes let's!"
Her laughter died down a bit so that she would be able to speak. "I have been...well enough. I'm not sure about Shadow, I have not seen him for a while. My children seem to be doing well, they've gone off on their own looking for adventures." She smiled but her eyes seemed sad. Even in a happy reunion there were reasons to be sad. "I think I may already be in that world with you. I ran into one of my sons the other day...he found a girl." She laughed merrily for a moment remembering how distraught he had seemed. Girl problems always were the worst kind.
"Actually...I have five children..." She murmured a bit embarrassed by the fact. The first two had come from a different sire that she had not seen since she had been pregnant. She wished that she could but it did not seem likely that she would, after all she must have hurt him pretty badly with her words. "They are grown up and it's not as hard as you may think. You just have to be willing to give up a bit of free time and sleep time."

(( Sorry for the delayed reply! I was away for the weekend. ))
The babbling Myoa had intended to do about her oldest daughter, who still lived with her, died. "Hey," she said as she draped a wing over her friend. "What's wrong? Children are a blessing!"
She had caught the melancholy undercurrent in Luna's voice, and Myoa immediately deduced that not everything had gone so smoothly for Luna as it had for her. Myoa knew that she had been very lucky, living a peaceful, drama-free, life.
Myoa shifted her feet. She didn't want to pry, but it was obvious that Luna wasn't the carefree mare of her youth.

She nodded knowing that much. Children were a blessing but sometimes for that blessing to arrive one sometimes had to suffer a bit. She let out a sigh and looked at her friend. She had the right to know at least some of the story. After Luna had been the one to bring it up in the first place.
"My first two children are not Shadow's." She said not wanting to mention the other's name. "They caused me...a few problems with Shadow. My daughter, Amoena, took it rather hard." She paused trying to decide if she should bring up the attack or not.
"She blamed Shadow for whatever reason and attacked him. I think she was trying to kill him." Her eyes lowered to the ground but a small smile crept to her face. "I should thank her though...that's what brought us together really." She looked up and shook her head again bringing a bigger smile forward.
"Listen to me rambling on about sad things. This is supposed to be a happy moment!"

Myoa smiled weakly. She had had no idea what her friend--friends, Shadow included, had gone through. The stormy night that had brought the three today was truly ages ago, Myoa realized with a shock. Time had passed too quickly.
"I'm sorry that I made you think about unwelcome things," she said, "You're right, this is a happy moment, but..." Myoa's voice trailed off. Again, conflicted feelings swelled. Should she push the topic? No mother could be alright if their daughter attacked their love. Still, Luna obviously didn't want to talk about it, and Myoa didn't know what to do.
"Even if the conversation is serious, the moment remains happy, because we're the ones holding the conversation together after so long apart. Luna, you know, if you ever want to talk I'll always be here for you; that's what friends do."

She shook her head. "No it's alright. I brought it up in the first place in a way." She offered a smile knowing full well that a smile wouldn't really help anything. Many people said you could hide behind a smile but that did not work when everything had already come out.
"Hmm...that's true Myoa." she said with a small laugh. It was still a happy moment and there was no reason that past events should change that. "And thank you. I'll remember that...but I hope I really don't ever need to speak of it again really." It probably wasn't good for her to keep it all locked away as she did but she found it was better.
"Enough of this though..." She said getting tired of her own little pity party. "How have things in your life been? Good I hope."

Myoa knew that Luna was locking away her memories and emotions, but at the same time, she realized that talking about it wouldn't actually DO anything either. It was Amoena that Luna needed to talk to, to work everything out, although frankly, Myoa wasn't sure if that would be possible. Maybe it was best for Luna to keep the past in the past.....
"Good enough," Myoa said almost guiltily. It didn't seem fair for her to lead such a blessed life when her friends had suffered. "I've been lying low lately, living with my mate and daughter. Nothing exciting, but nothing bad either," she admitted.
"But, better safe and boring than exciting and heart-breaking?" she said, phrasing the sentence as a question. Again, terrible guilt washed over Myoa.

Lunathiel gave her green friend an odd look. She seemed almost as though she were not happy about her life. "But that's wonderful Myoa." She said meaning it truthfully. She was thrilled that her friend was not suffering, perhaps a little envious of how good it was, but not unhappy with her.
"It is better." She said earnestly. "Much better and I'm very happy that you have such a good life. I would hate to know that you were sad." She smiled at her hoping that her words were making the wind feel better.
She could understand where the mare was coming from. If their roles were switched she would feel much the same way. That was why she really wanted Myoa to understand that she was happy for her. Learning that your friends were miserable was never pleasant.
