so yesterday at rehearsal, we got our marching band schedules for the fall.
i look over the schedule and there's a week where it our big championship.

what really bothers me? i can't even make it.

my mom planned a vacation to disney world during the week of the championship!

uggggh.

That stinks! This is my first year of marching, so I haven't dealt with championships yet. I've never been to Disney World either. I guess only us band geeks would rather go to a marching contest than Disney World. I'm sorry you have to miss it.

Cancel the trip.
I'm being somewhat totally serious. You get a grade for going to championships, usually one of the biggest grades you'll get. In some bands, depending on when the championship occurs during the school year, it's even treated as your final grade for the semester. Missing that would murder your overall grade in the class. 3nodding

And depending on how strict your BD is, you will be expected to be there unless you're in the hospital in intensive care with a 10% chance of survival. In my high school band, it was basically the unspoken rule that if you planned a vacation during the school year, you planned around the band calendar, because Davis wouldn't take vacationing as a legitimate reason to be gone.

If you can move the vacation with minimal fuss, go ahead and do it. Disney World will always be there. Championships aren't.

(I still haven't been to Disney World or Disneyland emo )
