Bright was well and truly lost.

He hadn't meant to get lost. Indeed, adventure had been the farthest thing from his mind that morning. Mom was in one of her extra-cautious moods again, watching the horizons for ill-omens and fussing over the color of the weeds they slept on. So Bright had left his brother Zeph with her and gone to fetch some lucky clover from a nearby patch. A nice snack always calmed Mom's fears when she was jittery.

Alas, Bright's good intentions weren't enough to save the day. On the way back to their home clearing, his growing wings had gotten caught in an unfortunate up-draft, and he'd been blow off-course into a nearby ravine. Now he had a mouth full of sweet grass and no idea where to go. All the land-marks were foreign, and the trees towered ominously above, blocking out the sunlight.

The colt spat his burden out onto the ground, then raised his head to glance around the brush.

"Hello?" Bright called. "Is anyone here?"

He hoped he could find someone. It was normal for the brothers to wander off to play during the day, but Mom would be really worried if he didn't come back by nightfall.

Numielle was out and about, lost in day dreams and silly filly fantasies. The young girl was still a little new to the world, and still trying to figure out how to use all her proper appendages. Four wings weren't easy to work with, and with a long, spiked tail that often got caught under her back hooves or stuck in nearby foliage, the poor little red haired mare was an absolute mess.

It wasn't easy, this world, but Numielle couldn't be more happy.

"I'm singing a song, a song to the woooorld~! And it's a happy song, oh yes it is! And here I walk, and here I roam, and here I wander far from home!" The little mare stopped, eyes suddenly going wide in surprise as she realized without a doubt that she had done something great. . . .

She. Had. RHYMED!

Squealing softly in delight, the little filly giggled at her made up song, as rhyming had happened accidentally and without intention. Her little tail swished back and forth, but the sharp spikes got caught on a nearby tree, and rather firmly embedded in to the rotting bark. She gave it a small tug, and then a little flap of her wings, but it didn't budge. No, it wasn't in deep, but for the moment Numielle was happy to be caught.

"Mister tree wants to play a game?" She asked, her dark eyes still glowing in delight at her earlier song. With a resigned sigh, the little foal flipped back her double sets of wings and looked around. "I'll let you keep me captured, but just for a little while Tree," she added softly, turning to nuzzle the offending trunk. "Wanna - Wanna here another one of my songs?" She waited a moment before giggling. "You're awfully quiet. . . . But I'll sing anyway! It goes something like this. "And when you're - - -" Two ears flew up as a voice broke through her song.

Someone was calling for . . . . someone?

Numielle waited a moment, trying to locate the source of the cry as her rump wriggled in excitement. Grinning broadly, she waited to let another have a chance before calling out, "I'm here! Are you here too? Oh! And trees are also in the area too, just in case you didn't notice 'em!" Which was true. They were in a small woods, after all, and that's where trees grew best! It would be rude not to include them as being here. . . .

The colt had already taken several steps towards the source of the sound, before his mind registered that the voice he'd heard was young, girlish, and entirely unsuited to the darkness beneath the thick canopy.

Oh, this wouldn't do. This wouldn't do at all.

Bright had no problem with fillies. In fact, he liked them very much! But his father had advised him as to the many ways a male could impress the fairer sex, and getting blown off course was not among them. He couldn't possibly tell a girl that he was adrift and looking for his mommy!

He spent a moment fidgeting before pressing forward. Not responding to a lady would be terribly rude, no matter what his reservations were.

"Oh, hello!" Bright pasted a smile on. He emerged from behind a thicket and trotted up to his new acquaintance. "Was that your singing earlier? It's very nice."

Wow, she was-

She wasn't like anyone Bright had ever met. He tried his hardest to conceal his surprise. Sir Kiyoshi was very pained because people were jealous of his exotic features. Bright refused to be like any of those unpleasant soquili.

Numielle waited happily as she heard the approach of another. It didn't occur to her that she should be so scared or concerned; no, life to the little filly was practically made up of rainbows and sunshine! Still somewhat stuck to the tree, the spikes of her tail firmly embedded in place, the young girl waited happily for Bright to appear.

Thankfully she wasn't disappointed.

It didn't take long for the little colt to appear out from the underbrush, and black and blue eyes peeked out curiously at the foal. IT WAS A FOAL! He was just the same size and age as her, oh lucky, lucky day! The little filly practically squeeled in delight, stomping excitedly from hoof to hoof and wanting desperately to swish her tail in excitement but only managing to yank on it in the process.

Silly tree wouldn't let go!

This was the first foal she'd met outside of her sisters, and it was a boy at that! A boy, a boy, a boy! Furthermore, he had head her singing! Oh joyous day upon joyous moment, he thought her singing was nice! Her little nose flushed pink as her moments excitement suddenly gave way to a bit of shyness. She turned her head to hide it in her wings, though little giggles escaped from her throat now and then.

"I like to sing," she added more softly and a little more subdued. It occurred to Numielle that this little dark coated foal was not her family; he had wings but no spikes or no wings on his feet. But he did have a horn, just like her, even if he was painted the most odd colours! He was black . . . and pink and purple and orange!

Numielle hadn't realized soquili could come in all sorts of colours. She thought everyone would be white and red with touches of black. This one certainly was more and more amazing.

A few moments passed before Numielle's foalish curiosity started to get the better of her. Turning back to face him, her shyness over ruled by intrigue and happiness, the little filly gave a broad smile. "I'm Numielle," she introduced herself, "And this is Mr. Tree - he dun want to let my tail go!" She giggled again, eyes bright. "Who're you? As you can tell," she added happily, "you're not the only one here. I am. And so are the trees. And sometimes the birds too, though they don't often stay long."
