I think my AIM account has been hacked into.
When I logged into Gaia today, I saw a message from someone asking if I had logged in at 12:00. I was at summer school then, so it obviously wasn't me. He said I might be "having fun with my parents tomorrow", implying that someone had logged in and done something bad.
When I signed on to AIM, I saw that I had 15 messages, and that they were all from eBay, Chase, Bank of America, and other things. It was all stuff saying my account was expired, or that it was bad security access.
Also, it appears that my buddy list is cleared.
Guys, I'm frightened. I don't know what's going on, and I might be in trouble. I kept my password secure, not giving it out, and using words and numbers like you should, but I just changed it. Also, I may call my mom for help in a few seconds.
If you know anything, fess up.

I don't know anything. D: Change the pass and make a new account maybe? DDDX Might it be someone who uses your computer? Like a family member? my sister sneaks in and talks to people on my msn all the time. DX

I changed the pass, and my mom suggested to switch to another account, as well.
Also, I use a personal laptop. XD
I talked to my mom about it. She said that they can't buy anything with my email, as I didn't post my full real name on the information profile, I don't have Paypal or anything like that, and the worse they can really do right now is hack in and start sending messages.
If I ever find out that someone in this guild was responsible... stare

I don't think anyone probably is... Actually..well I hope no one in the guild is. Is it possible for ANYONE else to have access to your laptop?
And it'd prolly be good if you notify most/all of your AIM friends that your old account was hacked :3

eek That's creepy to find out. Did you also run virus scans and spyware scans too? Just in case something got on your system.
You could also report it to the AIM technical support to see if there's anyway to fix or restore your account.

Pixie... I live in a three person household, with my mom, me, and her boyfriend/regular friend. The laptop's mine, and always in my room. The only person who should've been home at that time would've been the rabbit and said boyfriend. I kind of doubt that it was the roommate. And it was DEFINITELY not Shemp (the rabbit). XD
Also, I only really talked to you guys on there. xd
Inso, I'm running a scan right now at your suggestion. Nothing's come up, but it's still scanning. I should also try and see if there's a way I can contact someone from AOL.
Thanks for your help so far, both of you. Stuff like this... well, sucks. XD

No one in this guild would do such a thing. cool And if they did...I'll find who it is. Or get someone better than me on the case. Most likely the latter.
I'm thinking it could be someone who just happened to see you had an AIM account and hacked into it....but...there's too many things too consider... neutral

As implausible as it might sound... you **may** have been... "hacked"
But I think all the ideas to how you can deal with it have been brought up
1. Notify Aim "buddies" 2. Notify AOL 3. Run AV and Adware scans
Also, have you taken your laptop out to a public wi-fi spot recently, and gotten on Aim? There are ways that someone who knows what they're doing can get info from you like that... but I'm not sure that someone that could do that would waste their time with something like this...
Chances are the emails were from someone phishing you, in case you had any of those banks... they'd hope you'd give 'em your pass...
So, I'd go, and on a private network (home network connection), that is SECURED (wep, wpa...) and change passwords...
And don't fret it too much... as you said, there's not anything financially sensitive they could have gotten, and judging by what's there, there's probably not much they did manage to get...
Also, though "unlikely" it is possible that Aim had a "hiccup", said you were online, cleared your buddy list, and you got spammed at the same time...
>_>( )
Anyways, just keep the passwords safe, and you should be ok... ^_^

Okay, two good news:
1. Logged back in, and the buddylist's back. I'm guessing it was because of a glitch. At least that problem's dealt with. XD
2. Checked the emails again. Turns out Sib was right on one count, because I checked the links, and McAfee shouted at me that it was a phishing site. I just happened to get a major spamming of it for the first time, and got scared.
So... that was little problem to solve. Also, I explained to the person who sent me the PM was that every time I restart my laptop, sometimes AIM will sign in automatically, even if I don't want it to. So, I may have started up/restarted my computer sometime in the morning, and they saw that, and me logging back out straight away. However, AOL did tell me I needed to update my security options when I logged in, for some reason. So, something may have happened, but the buddylist and the emails were not part of it.
It's possible I may have received a glitch, and thought it was hacking like the idiot I am. XD
Also, the last place I went to with my laptop was to my grandparents over the weekend, but didn't use it much, thanks to poor signal.
I still need to hear why they asked, however, to come to any final conclusions.
Thanks Sib. XD

Nevermind people who've done hardcore dishonest things and never fessed up, monj. And the fact that you never caught them. xD <3
biggrin it's good everything is fixed aine. I'd guess if you were hacked it was a brute forcer, which is weird because I don't know why someone would bother brute forcing your account..but either it was phished or that because it's not like someone can guess random passwords.
