Hmm... this was interesting. The next child in was a seahorse. Weren't they armored? Angela shook her head slightly, and decided she'd get out a heavier duty needle, just in case.
She set the file aside, and retrieved said needle, before returning to her desk to await Reese's arrival.

It was such a shame. Reese's face seemed to be set in a permanent scowl these days. Today wasn't turning out to be any better with the little boy sitting in a rather heavy huff as his guardian, Wilbur, rolled him in his wheelchair down the hallway towards the doctor's office.
And all because Edge had, in his rush out the door, of reminding the butler to take Reese into D-Corp for his S-H-O-T...completely forgetting what a terrific speller his son had become.
"I hate needleth," Reese muttered in protest, looking up at the door with a dark glare.
"I know, Young Sir." It was the only thing Wilbur could reply. Any attempt at reason caused the boy to go into a temper-tantrum. As they were leaving the house, Reese had thrashed so violently that he'd nearly fallen out of his chair. No. That wouldn't do here.
Wilbur opened the door of the room and wheeled Reese in; his polite, well practiced smile stretching across his face. "Good day to you, Doctor. I believe Young Reese has a vaccinations appointment today?"
Reese just...scowled, arms protectively crossed over his chest and his tail coiled as tightly as possible under his rump. He said nothing until his felt a nudge upon his shoulder from the butler. Narrowing his eyes, his lips moved and one could only assume he had said hello.

Angela nodded back to the man with a smile, setting aside her file on the boy and standing up.
"A pleasure to meet you, sir. That is correct," she said, and looked towards the boy in the wheelchair. He seemed much less than pleased to be there.
Oh, dear, this might be difficult, Angela thought with dismay, but didn't let the expression reach her face, since that would likely upset the boy more. Instead, she kept her smile on, pulling up a chair to get as close to eye level as possible.
"Hello, Reese, my name is Angela. It's very nice to meet you. May I ask you a few questions, to make sure everything goes smoothly?" she asked, trying to get him to relax before administering the shot.

"Young Sir, must I remind you to be polite?" Wilbur's voice had darkened considerably with his warning, but Reese's scowl didn't improve any. "Reese," he firmly stated again, and the young boy sighed some...fighting the urge to roll his eyes. That would not have been polite.
"Thure, Mith Angela," he finally stated; the smile he forced onto his face so taut it was nearly a grimace. He hated needles. What did he need vaccinations for? He was perfectly healthy.

"Your skin is tougher than normal, am I correct? I just wanted to clarify that beforehand," she explained, nodding gently, and waited for the answer before changing the subject a little.
"Now then... do you have any questions for me, Reese?" she asked. She'd found a lot of concerns about the procedure were due to the children not knowing the whys and hows of it all.

Reese perked a little. If his skin was too tough, maybe he wouldn't be able to get a shot! Then they could just go home! Or, even better, go visit his dragon egg again! "Oh yeah. My thin'th really tough," Reese urged, nodding his head. "I don't get cut or hurt eathy."
"Mostly it's just the skin on his tail, Miss Angela," Wilbur said with a sigh, cutting Reese off at the pass. "His upper body plating is a little rubbery, but not terribly so." Reese snuffed angrily, glaring up at his guardian before looking back at the doctor.
"Why do I have to get a thot?" he said with a pout, speaking to both adults. "I'm not thick...I've never been thick!" And then, after a good long moment of a pause, he looked up rather meekly and asked "It'th gonna hurt, right?"

"Ah, good. There shouldn't be any trouble, then," Angela said with a nod of thanks to Wilbur.
Then she turned her attention to Reese's questions. They were much what she had expected, and she nodded in a gentle but serious manner.
"You've done very well to not get sick yet, Reese. These shots are to make sure you don't get sick in the future. Everyone has to get them, or has already had them, including myself," she explained as succinctly as possible, not wanting to get into too much detail and possibly confuse Reese.
"To answer your second question, no, it shouldn't hurt very much at all. Just a little pinch, and then you're done. The labtechs here have been very good about getting all that you need into one shot, as well," Angela said.
"If you don't like the look of the needle," she said quietly, "you can do what I do and look away. A lot of people do that," she finished.

Reese hated logic. Wilbur used it against him all the time, and he always managed to make sense about things. For once, just for once, why couldn't the answer be as simple as "You don't want to, Reese? Ok then, we don't have to."
Nothing was that simple anymore these days.
Reese heaved a hefty sigh, shaking his head. "Nuh uh! I dun wanna do it!" he said with a whine, getting down to the meat of his protest. His breathing was starting to increase, shallow and on the verge of panic. His cheeks grew puffy and red...he was about to throw a tantrum.
"Reese, don't you dare," Wilbur seemed to growl, kneeling down next to the boy. Reese looked at the older man, huffing and wiggling unhappily in his seat. "Excuse us," Wilbur said shortly but politely...about-facing the wheelchair and taking Reese to a far corner by the door.
"Now you listen to me, young man," he began, very sternly, kneeling before the sea horse. "You are getting your shots today. We are not going home until you do. Now, if you throw a ram we will leave the doctor to her work until you have calmed down...but we will be back. Or, you can behave and get this all over with now, and I won't tell your father about your behavior today."
Reese was quiet, calm...but not happy. Poppa wouldn't like it if he was being bad. Reese wasn't allowed to watch TV before bed when he was being bad.
"Are we agreed?" Wilbur asked, standing. Reese nodded, but pouted all the way back over to the doctor. "Sorry about that, Doctor. Reese is ready for his shot now." The sea horse boy took a deep breath and clenched his eyes shut as he stuck out his arm, turning his head around as far as he could so that he wouldn't have to see it coming.

Angela politely pretended she didn't hear the scolding Reese was given, and kept the gentle smile on her face when the two of them returned.
Reese closed his eyes and turned away, and Angela swabbed his arm with an alcohol pad, then prepped the needle quickly.
"One, two..."
Before she got to three, she stuck him with the needle, squeezed, and then it was all over.
"There, that's all there is to it," Angela said, and put a little gauze pad over the site, and rubbed it gently, to work in the shot, making it hurt less later.

Reese whined, giving a slight yelp when he felt the needle go in...pouting once all was said and done. He looked down at the gauze was pressed onto his arm, then up at the doctor.
"You were thuppothed to thay three," he mumbled, crossing his arms...wincing, and then recrossing them so that his bandaged arm was on the outside.
Wilbur sighed, shaking his head before offering a hand towards the doctor. "I'm sorry for all the trouble he caused today. Is there anything else you'll be needing of us?"

Angela smiled at Reese.
"Sorry, sweetie," she apologized, and dropped the needle end into a disposal box, along with the gloves she'd used.
"He wasn't much trouble, just... spirited," she said to Wilbur, taking his hand in a warm handshake.
"No, you're all finished, aside from one small matter. Would you care for a sucker, Reese? You did well, especially since you weren't looking forward to it," she said, and tilted the clear plastic canister on her desk, rustling the contents within.

It was only Reese's eyes that changed at the aspect of a lollipop. His brows lifted a little bit as he leaned forward, peering into the contents of the container...reaching in to gab a green sucker.
"Thankth," he muttered, sounding a little more like himself as he unwrapped the pop and stuck it in his mouth.
Wilbur sighed, shaking his head. At least he remembered his manners...finally.
"Thank you again, Doctor. I hope your next patient is a little easier to manage." Though, the comment was made with a smile. "Have a nice day, Miss."

"You're welcome, Reese," she said, happy to hear something other than a sullen tone in the boy's voice.
"You have a lovely day, as well, both of you. Maybe I'll see you in a class in the future, Reese. I'm not always in here with the needles," she said with humor and rolled her eyes expressively.
"Enjoy your sucker!" she said as she waved them goodbye.
