(( Please note that this is a continuation of a roleplay me and Fishy were doing in the old guild, while the shop was closed. The old roleplay can be found [ HERE ], for reference. )) * * * Xenophon's eyes stayed on the angel, though he was starting to fidget a little at the intense atmosphere around them. He didn't necessarily understand it, but it made him feel oddly. The look that Scarlette gave him didn't help matters any, when he asked him if he had any other friends to bother. "Mmm, I don't usually bug them unless I see them. With so many people around the city, it's hard to find someone again," he answered, trying to dismiss the 'why me' part of the question. It made him feel badly, like maybe he really shouldn't have pressed the issue.
However, his pestering had paid off in the end, as the angel finally gave in. Xen looked almost in disbelief at first, not sure if he had heard correctly. But, slip of the mind or not, he clamped his paws together happily. "Okay! Ice cream it is, then!" he chirped, jumping to his feet. Granted, it was a trade-off, but it was better than just letting Scarlette sit there and be bored! "There's this nice place not too far from here that has a bunch of flavors! What's your favorite flavor? I like the mint one the best, but they have this pumpkin flavor around this time of year that I also like. I think I'll get that one," he started jabbering as he held his hand out to help the angel up. "You'll have fun, I just know it!" he beamed.
The shop was only a couple blocks away from the park, as an easy access to the citizens that stopped in from there to cool off in the warmer months and to hang out in the colder months. Luckily this was a particularly warm autumn day, so Xen felt it was perfect for a cone of ice cream.
The store was small, with a counter and glass shielding to display the flavors while the names and prices of the ice cream was on the back wall, above the two on-duty employees. There was a narrow walkway that led in front of the counter, with a few tables and chairs for the people that preferred to stick around and chat. It was slightly busy, the two employees already taking orders of the people before them, but that just gave Xen and Scarlette enough time to decide what they had wanted.
The orange cat glanced at the board in the back that showed the pricing and scrunched his nose before turning back to the angel. "Don't worry about the prices, okay? My treat," he whispered, winking.

Scarlette perked and stared a moment as the other started to instantly start talking about his favorite flavors and whatever. At the idea of him having fun, his wings shifted a bit behind him as glanced at the hand... If he took it, that was that--- Wait. Why was he even thinking about this?
Placing his own in the others hand, he held on lightly as he started to get up. His hands in general were rather dainty, which just added to his whole person. With his free hand he held onto his book... Maybe, he should just relax, or at least try to relax. Was it bad for one to let go of all their inhibitions? Of course it was... Or wasnt it?
Now he was just confusing himself mentally... He... wasnt finding the feline as bothersome as he just listened to him talk... It was rather nice really. It made him feel like he had an obligation to talk himself. He was warming up a little at a time.
The angel subconsciously moved a little closer to Xen as they walked in to the store as he looked around trying to take it all in. It wasnt often that he went out somewhere... In the park, no one usually bothered you so you really didnt need to do any talking what-so-ever.
Wings fluttering lightly he glanced at Xen as he was whispered too, slightly thrown off by the wink. Looking at the board quietly he wasnt sure how he should reply. He should be nice really, the cat was treating him, but there was this ever nagging, snotty little devil on his shoulder he couldnt help but hear in his mind.
So, he just gave a small nod as he skimmed the flavors, ignoring the prices as he had been told. He really liked sorbets... Quietly he looked on down the list though he came across his favorite ice cream. Rocky Road. Looking at Xen he gave a small tug and pointed, "Can i get the Rocky Road?" He'd only want one scoop, since he tended to eat it slow...

Although he had turned back to the glass that kept them away from the buckets of ice cream on display, Xenophon could feel Scarlette inch closer to him as he looked around. His ears twitched, turning his head over his shoulder to glance at the angel and see what he thought of the place. It was obvious by his expression that Scarlette had never been in here before, perhaps never anywhere like here either; Xen only hoped it would be a good experience for him.
However, Xenophon was more confused at the sudden silence Scarlette was exhibiting. Was he nervous to be in here? Surely it wasn't that magnificent in here, but he had been in here plenty of times before and the scenery of it had long ago become transparent to him. Or perhaps he was mad at him? No... that couldn't be. After all, Scarlette had wanted to come along!
Meh... thinking too much into it, he mulled over, shaking his head. It's not like not being able to understand the angel was a new subject; he probably wouldn't understand the silence if it was explained to him. Besides, what if the silence was a good thing? After all, it didn't seem like Scarlette was flustered about being around him.
He was shaken from his thoughts when he felt a light tug on a belt loop, and a welcome distraction, too; he was getting annoyed with over-thinking. He grinned broadly as he followed to where Scarlette was pointing at the board as he said it, and quickly said, "Sure thing!" Truth be told, he usually didn't look at the prices himself when he ordered anything; the cashier could always do that for him. "I'll go order them! Anything else you want on it? Specific type of cone? Number of scoops?" he asked, unaware he was asking... quite a lot at one time.

Scarlette watched Xen, his wings shifted behind him as the questions were fired off quickly. It took him a moment to process, though luckily he was pretty good at retaining information. "Um, just.. one scoop. And a sugar cone."
It was always shocking to see how fast people could talk... Personally he enjoyed to take his time, though he knew that he was able to spout of quite a bit at one time if he was frustrated or whatever.
Wings stretching lightly he watched the other quietly before looking around to continue to gather his surroundings. There were quite a few people for the small shop, making it a little bit crowded... but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. It was when people got to close, or started running into him that he started to get agitated... Did that make him claustrophobic? No, that wasn't it. He just.. wasn't a people person.
Glancing back a Xen, he stayed a bit close just because he felt like it, since he was his 'escort' if one would say. It was better than all the other people around. He watched the workers move to fulfill orders quietly before he spoke, sort of to Xen, though it was only directed at him if he caught it. "I...like ice cream."

"Rocky Road on a sugar cone, one scoop. Got it!" he noted to himself, feeling it was easier to remember things if he was able to repeat them aloud first. Turning back to the counter, Xenophon leaned himself forward on tip-toes, trying to see if the employees were close to finishing the orders they already had on their plate. It looked as though they were finishing up with the ones they took, as they weren't currently taking the orders at the counter.
Blast it, why did he have to be so impatient? He rocked back and forth between the balls of his feet and his heels, waving his tail slightly, oblivious to the crowded nature of the small store. He always favored the small businesses like this than the bigger establishments, because he found they would serve customers without any remarks and tended to be a lot friendlier.
"Ah, hey!" he said as the last of the ice cream was handed off to the customer before them, trying to get the attention of the employee as quickly as he could. The man turned to them and Xenophon grinned, as if he ha accomplished something worth bragging. "Hello! I'd like to order one Rocky Road on a sugar cone, single scoop, aaand..." he trailed off momentarily as he glanced at the display of cones on top of the glass display case, "and a Pumpkin Spice on a cinnamon cone, single scoop, please." The man smiled and nodded, starting to get everything prepared as Xenophon waited at the cashier, fidgeting excitedly in place. Normally, he would have gone for a double scoop, but he was treating Scarlette to something special, not himself; he didn't want to over-do it!
Turning to the angel, he caught the quiet comment he mentioned and grinned widely. "Really? I'm glad!" he chirped cheerfully, happy he was actually able to come up with something they both enjoyed. "I like it too, but I seem to forget a lot of the time to get any, and by then it's either too late in the year, or too late in the day. What else do you like?" While they were waiting for their ice cream, they might as well chat, right?
But, just then, Xenophon noticed that Scarlette seemed a little uncomfortable. He wasn't about to ask why -- after all, he had made himself out to be rather air-headed already and didn't want to chance it again. He glanced around a bit and noticed just how crowded it was in here, and connected the two considering just how much Scarlette had sidled up next to the cat. Taking a last glance behind him to make sure nobody else was listening, he turned to the angel and whispered, "Hey, it's okay. We'll be outta here soon. Forgot how little leg space there was in here in the midday hours." He gave a sheepish grin, as if apologizing, before turning back to watch the man scoop up the ice cream into the cones.

Scarlette listened and watched silently as Xen ordered... He wondered what the pumpkin tasted like, but he kept his mouth shut. Really, he wouldn't have cared if the other got two scoops instead of one, the angel just tended only to eat one scoop.
He was thrown off lightly at the question of what else he liked and glanced back at the feline, "Well, I--" He stopped when someone bumped him lightly and his wings shivered, as he looked to his side where it had happened then moved a bit closer to the other...
Perking he just listened as Xenophon whispered to him again and a blush crept over his cheeks. It was that noticeable? Ooooh how embarrassing! Looking at the other and noticed the sheepishness of the smile and felt bad a little.
Clearing hi throat he looked down, "I... like going to the park... I like being outside when... it's nice out." Maybe the talking would clear his mind?

Xenophon was pretty surprised when Scarlette had moved closer, but the reaction the angel had had to the person that had meandered on by left the cat to wonder if maybe they should have gone for a walk instead, perhaps finding an ice cream vendor in the meantime rather than standing in such a cramped area. Though... if he had done that, there was no guarantee Scarlette would have wanted to come with him. Guess there had been no way around it. At least their ice cream was nearly finished...
Placing as close to the amount of money as he could get on the counter from his pockets, he mentioned to the cashier to keep the change and grabbed the cones that were handed to him. Change would have just been a nuisance to the bouncy cat, and, seeing as he didn't care to lug around a wallet, would have also been inconvenient. He handed off the sugar cone to the angel at his side, having to spin a little on his heel so as to avoid dropping it once he realized just how close he was to the cat. "Yeesh, you weren't kidding! It really is cramped in here!" he stated after almost hitting a passerby with his own cone. "Let's get on outta here!" he chirped as if the suggestion was because of his own problems with the store; no reason to make Scarlette any more uncomfortable.
Once outside, Xen moved to the side of the door to keep from getting smacked in the backside from anyone else planning to leave. Feeling he had the time to respond to Scarlette's answer to his own question, he sighed in relief after taking a last look through the glass door and, turning to the purple angel, responded, "Really? I do, too! I don't get out much in the winter or when it's cold, mainly because I'm susceptible to it. Sun makes me happy." He flashed a grin. The statement may have been a little too simple, but it was the truth.
After a brief pause, Xen quirked his eyes up in thought before back down to the angel. "Speaking of the park... you wanna head back down there and take a walk? Or we could finish our ice cream first, I guess," he asked before turning to the cone in his hand. He hadn't even touched it yet, but after the question had turned to it and started eating it. It was odd, usually he would have attacked the ice cream right after getting it, but instead he had kept talking. It may have been just because he usually wasn't with anyone he could talk to when he got ice cream, or perhaps it was because he was feeling a little protective. When he had run into Scarlette earlier, the angel had been so proud and stubborn... but now he seemed as though he wasn't quite sure of everything that was going on. He didn't look like he enjoyed being around so many people, so, in a way, maybe he was just trying to keep Scarlette's mind off of it?
Geh, this is beyond me, the orange cat thought with a slight roll of his eyes. He settled with the notion that he did it just because Scarlette wasn't, and since Xenophon was talkative anyway, it wasn't too far-fetched. He didn't like seeing the angel so uncomfortable, and the only way Xenophon had found to work around that was to talk... albeit he tended to do so without direction in his conversations.

(( Xen is so sweeeet ~ D: <3 ))
Scarlette just watched on quietly, trying not to focus on anything in general, except maybe Xen, but it was just mild ponderings and analysis of the others person as a whole from what he had seen. He was taken from them as the other turned to give him his cone; subconsciously he blinked and took a step back, seeing as he had in fact, gotten quite a bit closer than he had meant to.
He watched a bit amused as the other continued to move about; to him it looked a bit like flailing, but he knew that wasn't the fact. Giving a small smile, he took the cone with a thank you, moving after Xen to get out.
Inhaling deeply, the angel sighed happily at the nice air. He looked to the cat when his statement was finally replied to, and just... watched. He couldn't help it. It was odd, that if he just... relaxed a bit and didnt over think things -- two things he does doesnt do well doing -- he found the other quite entertaining. It was a smidge obvious and it made even more sense as to the cat's person at the statement about sun.
Scarlette stretched his wings out a little, they'd gotten stiff, and looked at his cone. Though before he'd gotten a bite, the question was asked. "That'd be nice... Walks are good." He didn't mind walks, and gave a small smile, before he tried his ice cream.
The cold treat was a remedy in itself, as he smiled a little. It was good; just what he'd expected. Murring a little, he took a lick, waiting for Xen to lead the way, though he looked at him once again. "Thank you."

(( Xen is an oddball compared to my other anthros. He likes to stay happy, no matter what, and likes to see others happy. XD ))
Xen stole a quick glance back at Scarlette as he replied to the feline's question, catching the smile. A broad grin quickly made its way to his own face as he exclaimed suddenly, "Now that's what I wanted to see!" He chuckled slightly as he elaborated, "See, it's not so bad when you smile. In my opinion, it makes things seem better. You should do it more often, it looks good on you." He nodded as if agreeing with himself, though it did make Xen feel better knowing that Scarlette was having at least a little fun.
"Sorry, sorry," he quickly said, batting at the air with his free hand, "Kinda derailed the conversation there." He was glad there was progress in the relationship, even if it really did turn out to be the only day they ran into each other; at least it would leave an impression as one to remember. He couldn't have guessed Scarlette would have agreed to taking a walk with him if he had only looked at first impressions, but it was nice to know things could get worked out with a little patience.
Taking a bite out of the cinnamon cone, Xenophon went to grab the upper part of Scarlette's closest arm, though it was more of an invite rather than forcing him to come at his pace. He was eager, but he wasn't impatient.
His ears perked up in surprise, though, as he halted his steps. Turning back to the angel, the feeling was evident in his eyes before he turned it into glee. "I'm glad you like it, and you're very welcome!" he said as his smile returned. He hadn't expected the gratitude to be vocalized, and yet, as he thought about it, it shouldn't have come as any surprise. After all, it was obvious Scarlette had grown up in a rather strict environment, and so it was only natural he'd want to thank him as a reaction. Either way, it made Xenophon happy to hear it, and he could tell the angel really meant it.
The pavement of the sidewalk was getting a little too warm for the feline at this point, realizing the sun was now high enough in the sky for the concrete to absorb enough heat as it possibly could. That was one downside to wanting to walk around barefoot, he was just glad there was padding on his feet to cut back on him noticing it. Luckily for him, the ice cream parlor hadn't been too far into town, and once they reached the outskirts of the park Xen quickly maneuvered his feet into the grass. He wiggled his toes around in it, a feeling he always enjoyed. Glancing up from the grass, tail waving happily, he asked, "So, where did you want to wander? There's a patch of flowers a ways away. If we head toward the middle of the park, there's a nice pond with a fountain. Umm... there's a field off through here with a few hills and trees... anything strike your fancy?"

(( XD <33 Aw ~ ))
Scarlette was startled lightly by the sudden exclamation, as his wings shifted behind him, watching the cat closely... "Wanted to see what...?" He murmured out lightly before getting his answer. What an odd cat! He stifled a lightly chuckle behind the back of his free hand, he gave a small nod, as to agree about the statement of smiling.
His giggling stopped, and was replaced with a blush at the compliment. Clearing his throat lightly he dropped his hand, what was he doing? Ooooh... There were so many things tearing at his mind, he should do this, he shouldn't do that... He couldn't take it so he took a moment just to shrug it all off, just let it go... That's what youre supposed to do right?
Giving a warming smile, he waved off the derailing comment with a small nibble at his ice cream, "It's fine..." He didn't retract his arm when it was taken, mildly surprised, but found it a nice surprise as he let Xen start to lead, though almost stumbled at the others abrupt stop, once again brought to obvious attention.
He'd never gotten such a reply for a thank you before! He cleared his throat lightly again as a giggle pressed at his lips, raising the hand to stifle it, if he didn't get control, he'd end up having a giggle fit out in public. So... he busied himself with ice cream.
Watching, Scarlette nibbled at the ice cream as the other got in the grass... He hadnt noticed the other was barefoot as his gaze drifted down only to be brought back up by the question, "I'd... like to go to the field." He smiled, maybe if he had the guts, he'd roll down one of the said hills.

Xen rocked back and forth on his feet, relaxed in the shade of a nearby tree now that his feet were in the cool grass. His tail waved idly as he spoke up once more, "You don't have to hide your laugh, you know. You're having a good time, right? There's nothing wrong with showing it in that manner." He beamed, extatic to know that he was able to show the angel such a good time where Scarlette would end up reacting in the positive way he was. It had been a long while since he was able to be out and about, feeling as free as this, and even longer since he spent a day like that with someone he enjoyed being around. It had taken a bit of effort, but Xenophon was really having a good time with Scarlette, and he was happy to note that the feeling was shared.
"Really?" Xen asked. His tone wasn't in astonished question, more of curious excitement. He was so sure that Scarlette wouldn't have gone for that option, and had just off-handedly tossed the suggestion in there out of pure habit. Though, well, the angel was trying out a lot of new things today, it seemed. Maybe he was testing out this as well? Either way, Xenophon was pretty amazed at how far the angel had come; he was a lot more open to the new and obscure than the cat had initially anticipated! In fact, more so than what he was used to out of people. In both instances, it seemed they were both dealing with aspects completely new to them today.
Xen flicked his tail, grinning like a fool. It was pretty fun! "Okay, sure thing! Let's head on over!" he replied with a chirp, holding his hand out for the angel to grab. He was still unsure about whether rolling down the hillside would be okay for Scarlette, as the angel had some gorgeously large wings to be careful of, though he honestly didn't think he'd go for that.
He jumped slightly as he felt a sudden cold sensation on his hand, realizing he had forgotten all about his ice cream. Quickly licking the liquefied ice cream from his hand, he ventured to finish the treat as quickly as he could, so as not to have to worry about it again. Bad enough it was getting warm, but sticky hands could become a nuisance! And it wasn't like he was going to get a brain freeze at this point; the cone was almost gone.

Scarlette himself was a bit surprised on how well everything was turning out. Fretting didn't solve anything it seemed. Giving a mental sigh of relief, a smile graced his lips. He watched Xen a bit curiously as he rocked, working at his own ice cream slowly, though he should probably think of picking up the pace.
Looking down at the comment on his laugh he cleared his throat alittle. "I... suppose I dont." Though it had been ingrained in his mind that laughing, visually, wasn't as appealing as it sometimes sounded. "It's a habit..." He added a but shyly.
The angel's wings shifted again behind him before he looked up again, "well, yes, if that's okay." He meant the field of course. Since Xen had brough it up, he was a bit curious at the rebounding and a bit redundant question.
It took the boy a moment as the hand was extended to him, before he shifted his cone to the other and took hold with a small smile. He was warm. Not only would wings be a possible hinderance, but the fact he wore a dress could be too. Oh, he hadn't thought of that. Well, if not today, another time then.
Hold the phone! Was this inferring that he wanted repeat days like this? Almost planning? It gave him happy tingles down his spine, thinking about how much fun it would be to do it again. But... Fall was setting in; soon it would be to cold or too wet to do much outside.
Feeling a little drip himself, he was tugged from his thinking and looked at his hand, seeing the ice cream he'd failed to lick at, was melting a bit. Glancing at Xen he realized the other had, too and grinned as he worked on his own, though not nearly as quickly.

Habit... Xenphon thought on the subject as Scarlette mentioned it. It wasn't a bad habit in that manner, but it seemed to Xen that there were a lot of things the angel was holding back on out of "habit." It made the feline wonder how exactly such things were ingrained into his mind, but imagination fell short for he who has only known a carefree lifestyle and mindset. If anything, he hoped it wasn't a fear reaction.
However, now was not the time to worry about such trivial things, especially since everyone here was having fun, and childish fun was what Xen specialized in. He brushed his free hand on the leg of his pants a little, in case there was any melted ice cream he managed to miss still left over on it, and proceeded to lead the angel over to the nearest hill that he knew of. This time, he made sure to go a tad slower, especially upon noticing Scarlette was not yet finished with his own ice cream. Wouldn't do to bite one's tongue when the day was just getting started!
It wasn't very far the two of them had to travel along the trail, but Xenophon took a little longer to wind his way through the trees, as a little bit of sight-seeing. "Wooow, the trees look like they're on fire!" Xen gaped as he slowed his steps down even further, neck craning upwards to see the brilliant shades the leaves were turning. This was, of course, nothing new to this time of year, but Xenophon always seemed to find himself amazed at how bright and different the trees looked. He pushed the nagging thought at the back of his mind further in depth, remembering once more that this was also the time of year many things died. He did not want to be reminded of such a negative thought right now.
Spotting the hill all of a sudden, he released his hold on Scarlette to run ahead, turning in mid-stride after a few paces to look in the angel's direction. "Think it's big enough?" he asked with a slight laugh. It was quite large, but not immensely so; one could still see where it sloped to the back.
Xen's ears twitched to the still air. "Hmm, kinda empty here today," he mused to himself as he glanced around before shrugging, "Nobody to bug us." He flashed a grin, tail waving playfully as he waited at the base of the hill. Scarlette shouldn't get nervous if there were fewer people to "judge" him, right?

It had to do a little about fear; fear of what people would think. Being trained everyday for almost his whole life on being proper was a hard thing to break, to go against. It was the aspect of 'thinking outside the box' just harder. There was a bit darker side to the 'training' he had endured, but the angel almost always tried to keep it from his mind, constantly reminding himself that he who had 'trained' him, was no longer anywhere near here... so he hoped.
Scarlette continued eat as he looked around as they took the path, and he barely noticed the Xen made it just a bit longer than normal. His eyes moved taking in all the sights and at points he too craned his neck to look at the colors and the trees. He looked on with aw, a moment forgetting his almost gone ice cream. Looking at Xen he grinned and gave a nod, "Though, fire would be much more damaging than just your normal turn of the season..." That was a sad thought... all the gorgeous trees actually on fire. He cleared his throat and quickly finished his ice cream so as not to be hindered by it much longer.
He was liking this... the fresh air, the lack of other people. Stress free, pressure free... He could get used to these days with Xen. His eyes were torn from the trees he was gazing at when his hand was dropped, slightly startled as he looked at where Xen had run.
The angel stood where he was, then grinned, giving a happy nod, moving with slightly larger strides to get to the feline. "Perfect ~" he crooned lightly when he was next to Xen. Not too big, not too small; perfect.
Scarlette glanced at the other at the statement before looking around himself. That was true... his gaze returned to the other as he gave a nod. Right, no interruptions.
