The day was perfect... bright, warm, soft white clouds speckling the sky like bits of seed fluff thrown up into the sky. It just invited Hippolyta to be out and about, exploring and playing and learning. Only problem was... well, it wasn't much fun to play alone.
Turning her head, she glanced around, hoping one of her sisters was nearby. Stationed just on the otherside of were the river before the dens turned shallow, she was greatly daring to be so far out. Especially acrossed the river, when Mother disliked them crossing it alone.
'If you fell in and there was no one to pull you out...' She would always say, but well... Hippolyta couldn't help herself. Things on the other side of the river were just so interesting. In her short life so far, she'd already explored every knook and cranny of the side by the dens, as far up the cliff as she was brave enough to go.

Oiorpata liked to fancy herself better than her sisters. Not because she was but because she was determined to be. She was highly competitive but also loyal to her mother ...which tended to mean unless she could be convinced that something was to her benefit, she was a stickler for the rules. Sitting around got her no where, so naturally she herself was always outside trying to find ways to better herself.
Soon, she noticed her sister on the other side of the lake. Determined that it was a no-no - more so because she hadn't been the first to do it than that it was not allowed - she called over to her. "Hey! What are you doing? You know what mother would say!" Yeah, she made lots of friends that way.

Hippy's ears fell back as an annoying little voice called out to her, red eyes rolling to the sky before falling again to squint acrossed the river.
"Be quiet, Oreo! You're gonna wake Mother up!" She called back as she jumped down from the bank of land beside the river, her paws hitting the gravel before the water with a rattle of stones. Ears back in guilt, since she knew all too well that what she was doing was wrong, the black cub paced to the water and frowned at her sister on the other side.
"Why don't you just mind your own buisness, huh? I'm not hurting anything, and as you can see, I'm perfectly safe! I'm good at crossing the river, and I'm not going that far... I just want to look around a little. Is that really so wrong? I'm being careful." She had the cutest little grumpy face on as Hippy called over the rippling water.
The river was nothing for an adult lioness, reaching only to the belly and not strong enough to sweep one off her feet. But for a cub, who couldn't reach the bottom... well, that's what the rock trail acrossed it was for. Even if the rocks were always wet and kinda slippery... that was part of the challenge! At least, that's what Hippolyta thought.

Oreo scowled, more jealous than a mad little tattle-tail. She should have been the one to do it. Be the one to return to her mother to tell her what lies on the other side and how easy it was for her to cross it. Brag that only she could cross it. Of course, that was dashed as the black form of her sister stood strongly on the other side. "It is my business," she replied.
Wiggling her bottom with determination, she jumped out onto the rocks, determined to follow suit. She wouldn't let all the glory slip away. They felt funny to her feet, too smooth and slimy, not at all sturdy like her buddy earth. Nor were they like rocks she was used to. They were water rocks, she decided, but rocks with a mind of their own. She glared down at them, as though daring them to push her off them with a threat of punishment for them in return. But she pressed forward more carefully now, her tongue sticking out the side of her mouth. Oreo looked up at Hippy, a look of satisfaction on her face as she neared the other side.

"Hey! Be careful, Oreo!"
Hippy stumbled forward, feeling water lap at her toes. Red eyes widened as her red sister started the journey over the river, jumping easily from stone to stone. Despite her brave words, she was a little worried now that she had to stand and watch her sister cross the stones she'd so blithely crossed just an hour earlier. Mother's warnings came back to her with a vengence and the black cub tensed, breath drawn in and held in anticipation. If Hippolyta had been taught to pray to gods, she might have now, but as it was she could only wait and watch.
She scowled gently at the red cub as she moved towards the rocks that neared the shore, waiting with bare patience for her sister to find safety beside her on the shallow beach.
"If you fall in, I'm not coming in after you!" She called out in weak threat to Oreo, since there was little more she could do.

Oreo smiled at Hippy and shook her head, a smile that said she'd show Hippy. She made sure as she jumped from rock to rock to make it look light and easy with as much grace as she could manage. Of course, in her attempt to look amazing, she had miscalculated the surface of the rocks and landing on one, lost her footing and pawed frantically at the rock. Finally, she slid down with an oomph, landing on her stomach and banging her chin on the rock which happened to be a good size but incredibly worn down and smooth. It smarted and caused tears to spring to her eyes. But she refused to let Hippy see and wiggled her nose to try and stop herself from showing the pain. Slowly getting to her feet and her jaw set in a look of angry determination, she finished her way across. "See, no problem," she said with her jaw tight so that she sounded fine although it came off slightly angry.
Oreo looked around the other side of the river she had made it over to. Everything over here really did look more beautiful and interesting although it was probably simply because she had never been over here before. Forgetting she had been mad at Hippy for being over here before her and because it was against the rules, she let her mouth open in wonder. "Hippy, why didn't you take me over here before?" she asked.

The thrill of alarm burst into Hippy and she found her paws in the water with it lapping around her ankles when she saw her sister slip. Despite her words, she looked more than ready to dive in head-first. It was one thing to say she wouldn't go in, and quite another to do it when the unthinkable happened.
The moment she realized Oreo was in no danger, though, a paw lifted to cover her muzzle to hide a large grin, red eyes silently laughing. She had enough time to pad back up onto shore, carefully shaking out her paws and smoothing her features, before her red sister joined her. Once more calm and with a bit of a scowl for such a dangerous attempt, she opened her mouth to say something appropriately nagging... but the words faded when at Oreo's wonder at the land around them. It molified Hippy somewhat and she let her own eyes be drawn to their surroundings.
"I was... afraid you'd tell Mother." She finally confessed, her ears back guiltily. She scuffed her paw lightly in the sand of the shore, her tail low between her back legs.

"I might have," Oreo said off-handedly. It was true which meant she instantly forgave Hippy. Of course, no one liked being told on. With a sly smile she tried her best to spot something interesting. "So what mysteries lay over here?" She was perhaps a bit over-eager to explore over here. Sure she was only the second but she had two other sisters who hadn't been over here, sisters she could still lord her accomplishments over.

Ducking her head, the dark female rolled her shoulders in unease, happy that her sister had said she wouldn't tell now. She had been right not to take her along, but it wasn't much of anything right now, since she was here.
She lifted her head, red eyes scanning, at the question. She had found a few interesting places and some new things that hadn't been on the otherside of the river. Really, even the plant life was new, since very little grew in the loose gravel before the dens.
"I don't know... everything, I guess. Hey! I did find this really strange tree though!" Hippolyta grinned as she bounced over to one set back in the scrub a little. It seemed suspended above the ground on a cushion of interlacing roots. Like the tree her mother had once played in as a cub, she squirmed into the network, her body finding the spaces that were just big enough for her to squeeze through. She grinned out at her sister, the pair now seperated by the many twining roots.

"What?" she exclaimed out of disbelief and excitement at the tree, her sister sliding through it like a snake. "You think there's treasure in the middle?" she said with a wicked smile. Without waiting for an answer, she pushed in after her sister, trying with some difficulty to follow her sister. The roots scrapped against her back, leaving fur still attached to them and her itching. Luckily she got the hang of it soon enough. And it was worth it. If they found treasure, they could bring it back and that'd be even better than just a story since mother couldn't hate them if they brought a gift. Right? Then they'd be like heroes, right?

An arching root pressed into Hippolyta's stomach, distracting her from what her sister said for a moment. When it registered, she blinked and paused in her squirming, tail bumping against roots as it twitched back and forth.
"Treasure? Um, well..." The black cub hadn't really explored that much into the system of roots, so it could be possible. And hey, why not? There had to be a reason why the tree grew like this, with all the spaces under it. Why not to protect some precious treasure from outsiders?
Hippy's active imagination immediately went into 'pretend' mode, making up all sorts of fantastic stories for what might be hidden in here and who might have done it.
"What if... if demon wanted to hide his treasure, so he made the tree grow up like this so he could put the treasure in the middle of it? Yeah! I bet that's it, Oreo! Come on, lets go farther in and maybe well find the demon's treasure! Would that just be awesome? We could take it and show it to everyone and they'd all be so proud of us. I bet the boys would be just green with envy." She chortled as she wiggled about in her excitement, actually managing to free herself from the upraised root when she wasn't thinking about it.
"Come on!" She called back as she began to worm her way deeper, to where the roots were too dense to see easily.
