Well, at least the scenery was new. That was about the only good thing Zeus could say about it.

First off, he was very, very lost. He didn't reconize any of his surroundings, and he'd been traveling for days. That wouldn't have been such a big deal, really, since he didn't have a particular place he needed to be, but that led to it's second problem.

There was no one here. In all the time he'd been wandering about, he hadn't seen hide nor hair of anyone. Which ment that he hadn't seen the lovely curves or sweet smile of a woman in far, far too long. The rogue felt like his heart was shattering in his chest from the loneliness. He was just not cut out for the solitary life. He needed a bevy of beauties around him, their sweet attentions enough to sustain him through any trial or tribulation.

With his usual flare for the dramatic, Zeus sighed and collapsed where he stood, falling with a thump to sprawl over the ground. He felt no need to hold back and really got into his death throes, thrashing and rolling on the ground as he moaned agonizingly.

He had to find a pride soon, and if not a pride, then maybe just a little rogue female to ease his boredom and loneliness with. Otherwise, well... he just might waste away altogether.

Her duties as a guard had taken her a bit further out than usual...just past the borders of the Aikanaro'hini. It was an unusual thing nowadays...but Matata had alerted her to a stranger just beyond the territory. And problems were better prevented than fixed. Normally, she hated being out during the day...the sun beat down on her blood-colored coat most mercilessly. But this...was an exception.

Her amber eyes caught sight of the rogue easily...he stood out like the night sky. In fact...intriguing. Part of his pelt and all of his mane looked like the night sky. She grinned and stalked forward, surprisingly quiet and agile despite her bulk.

Once she was close enough, her grin turned feral and she spoke up, loud enough to be heard, but not so loud as to scare off everything.

"BOO."

The call from nearby made the orange and black male twitch in surprise, his head jerking up as he searched for the source of the voice. It probably wasn't someone meaning him harm, since he hadn't been attacked while distracted... and the voice sounded feminine in nature, which was even better.

Orange eyes darted and found the dark red form, a playful, embarrassed little smile coming onto his face.

"Oh, my... caught rolling in the dirt by a most lovely female. I'm ashamed of myself, to be seen in such a state." Rolling over, he stood up to shake himself all over, dust rising in a cloud as he shook it free of his brilliant coat. "Forgive me, Lady. If I'd known you were going to show up, I would have made myself more presentable.... look at me, with dust all over and my mane a mess."

The male laughed softly as he sat back, self-conciously smoothing a paw over his head to straighten his mane. While he fussed with his mane, he took the time to look this strange female over from the corner of his eye. She was a rather violent color and pattern, most unusual. She was also heavily scared, which pointed to a female that was either a fighter, or had gotten on the wrong end of someone's claws. And that bone jewelry... she looked quite fierce indeed.

Lovely? Last time she'd been called that...was when her mother still whispered to her. Not even Verge had called her such to her face. Strange, strange outsider...She snorted.

"Better covered in dirt than covered in your own blood, mortal." She chuckled. "I'm not sure if you're aware of it...but you are dangerously close to demon lands, strange one." She circled him a moment before sitting before him. He didn't look to be scrawny, but he certainly was not used to fighting as she was. Certainly no demon though.

"And that is a dangerous edge to be dancing when the No-named Demon is around." A smirk graced her muzzle and gave her eyes a most strange look...something between bloodthirsty and calm. Certainly not a sane look.

Zeus was a big male, big enough that he was rarely challenged by other lions. It was rare for him to need to fight, which he appreciated to no end. Mar his lovely coat with scars? No thank you. But the feeling he got from this female... he hadn't felt that sort of wariness towards another in a long time. She might be only a female, but he was not going to take her lightly, even if his manner might suggest something different.

Being called a mortal was new and he snorted, the end of his tail twitching. "I appreciate the information." He said as he grinned confidently, his body deceptively at ease. "I'm a wanderer by nature and I actually rarely know just where I am in relation to the many prides. Demons, you say? You can be sure they will have the utmost of respect from me while I'm near or in their lands."

It made him wonder just who, or what, this lioness was. She talked as though she were some terrible, immortal being, and yet he felt no hint of anything from her but her own mortality. Gods had a certain feel to them, even in disguise, and he'd yet to meet an actual demon to know what they were like. One of the line of the great King Zeus, named for that illustrious ancestor, the orange male would not let himself be cowed just because he got an off-putting feeling from a female, of all things.

Hakuna couldn't help but smile, the bloodthirst draining from her eyes, leaving only the calm. A mortal who knew to respect demons. Good. They were sadly few and far between...and it usually happened only because the claws of herself or one of the others of the pride had sunk into their flesh at some point.

"Since you are being rather smart, I'll tell you something else...do not cross the borders." She nodded to the land behind her. "The scent markers that way are unmistakable...to avoid...accidents. And I wouldn't want to mar the coat of someone who already knows to respect those that hunt in the night." She took her duties as a guard seriously....and if this male crossed into the lands...

Well, Hakuna would not hesitate in her duties. And she highly doubted this male would be a useful slave. Maybe for breeding...but that would be all. Not at all like the little one she was raising as her 'toy'. "You truly are a strange, strange rogue."

A deep, rolling laugh burst from Zeus as he rocked back on his paws, tossing his head and his speckled black mane.

"I'm not nearly so strange as you are, my lady!" He chuckled, rolling his shoulders to loosen them, leaning into a subtle stretch to loosen his back as well. "Never have I met a lioness with such a fierce visage or demeanor, who threatens me with bodily harm for merely going where I wish, bringing harm to no one."

The male's head shook as he glanced to the side, orange eyes sweeping the area in case she happened to have reinforcements somewhere nearby. This could fast get ugly, but he had no intention of encouraging such a thing. Even if some scars would make him look more rugged and thus more desirable to the females...

"Are you alone here, Lady?" He asked nonchalantly, eyes still wandering around them. "As fine as you are, it would be a surprise to me... and I never did get your name from you. I don't suppose you would be gracious enough to gift me with it?" Zeus smiled charmingly as he turned back to her.

Hakuna chuckled. "I simply do my duty. And that is to protect my pride." She smirked. "And I have known no other way of being than fierce. It is who I am, and who I shall always be." At his cursory sweep of the surroundings, she chuckled again.

"I am. For the most part. Though you needn't worry about attack unless you strike out." Matata circled overhead, hoping for just that, but not wishing to risk pissing off the lioness who made sure he had everything he needed. Her name...ah, such an oxymoron.

"I am Hakuna'jina." Her grin was toothy and wild, full of dark pride. Oh how she loved her 'name', a symbol that not even her mother could pin her and her demon down.

"That's a lovely name." He offered graciously, unaware of what the name meant though he guessed it was something important to her. She practically radiated pride when she gave her name. In the spirit of manners, he offered his own back to her.

"My name is Zeus, my lady. Not so fine a name as yours, but one my mother thought worthy for me to bear." He smiled as he straightened up a little, adopting a pose more befitting of the name he carried.

"I can assure you as well that I mean no harm to anyone here. I only care for rest, food and peace while I travel, something I think everyone can appreciate. You need have no worries for your pride, I'm certainly not going to do anything untoward. Besides, I'm sure if they have someone as fierce as you to protect them, they have very little to fear from someone like he." He was trying to ingratiate himself with her, but he wasn't entirely sure he was succeeding. Her responses were hard to read with the bone mask that hid her features.

Idly, he wondered if it would do him any service to adopt something similar, though not as... scary. It spoke of mystery and did females like that in a male? Maybe it would help him in his pursuit of the most lovely of creatures, but then again... maybe not.

Hakuna smiled calmly. Well...so long as he didn't cross into the pridal lands, she would leave this one be. "I believe I can point you in the right direction for food, Zeus." She would be a good little Sparda-demon. This lion had done nothing to her...and he didn't seem the type to give her a reason to make him a toy. "Though I am being kind, remember that it is a temporary one." She laughed softly.

"I'm in a good mood today...and your words helped keep it. Not often one finds a male who knows where their limits are. Most would have not heeded my warning." Matata landed on her head and whispered something into her ear. She shook her head and gave him a look that had him fluttering off, muttering something about eyes and shinies. "Well...if you'll follow me, I'll show you good hunting. But then I need to get back to my pride."

Her regard made Zeus bristle a little bit, drawing himself up unconciously to better display his large, sometimes intimidating size. He wasn't used to getting the feeling that a female could whip him well, and he didn't like that feeling now. Any romantic thoughts he might have entertained with this vibrant lioness were quashed swiftly like an ant under paw.

"I am not a stupid lion. I am used to doing just as I wish, but I dislike forcing myself in where I'm not wanted... I have no desire to intrude on your lands and face a fight when there are far fairer gazelles to chaise in other, more hospitable places." He said stiffly, his tail twitching in slight annoyance. He'd be happy to move on, there was little here to interest him. "I would appreciate the guidance, Hakuna. A little something to fill my belly before I move on."

He lifted a paw in a guesture for her to take the lead, smoothing the frown from his face.

Hakuna simply chuckled as she started towards the area where fair hunting could be found. Truthfully, it was but an extension of the hunting grounds within the pride...but it had formed only recently from prey that was smart enough to get away from the demons. "Hmm...you have some wisdom then. Admirable, along with the rest of you." His size did not intimidate her. She was, after all, not exactly small herself. And the entire pride seemed to run large. Well, save a few cubs...but if all went well, they would grow into their size.

As they reached the edge of the hunting grounds, she stopped. "This is where it begins. You might find shelter around as well, if you need to rest." Hakuna turned an almost-friendly smile to Zeus. "Good hunting to you...and I wouldn't mind seeing your bloodline survive. Even mortals need their strong ones."

With that, she started back into the pride's lands, a grin on her face. She'd done well enough. The pride was safe, and perhaps one day...a new bloodline would be added in the future.

When they came to the area that looked like the rest of it all, Zeus padded out in front of Hakuna before he turned back, offering her a lift of his head in salute.

"Thank you. I will try not to stay over long before I'm on my way again." He said as he watched her turn, that smile on her face making his hackles stiffen along his spine. What was with this female, to make him so nervous? Nothing else did, but it was like looking into the eyes of a cobra poised to strike... it was fascinating and terrifying all at once. And that comment on his bloodline... was she speaking of him continuing to live, or was she, in some strange way, hitting on him?

The large male shook his head in confusion as she disappeared back into the brush, her red form fading into it with unsettling ease. Flicking his black tail, he turned and started off in a ground-eating trot, his head low as he sought for distance rather than linger to fill his belly.
