I'm planning our next year of Sunday School - and just thought I'd ask,
What stories/topics do you feel should be included in Sunday School? What's your favorite Bible story? Anything you feel would be helpful would be appreciated.
Note: It's a small church, and we don't have the budget to really justify purchasing a pre-made curriculum - in the past the teachers felt like they were always modifying it so much anyway.

Hmm . . . well, stories that come to mind are:
Adam and Eve / Creation
The fall of man
Cain and Able
Tower of Babel
Noah's Ark
Abraham and Isaac
God's promise to Abraham
Joseph
Moses (from baby to taking Hebrews out of captivity)
Israelites wandering in desert
Joshua and the promised land
Jericho
Uh . . . some of the judges . . .? (don't remember much from that book)
Gideon
Samson
Saul, first king of Israel
David and Goliath
Saul being mad at David, and David becoming king (it's a long story . . .)
Possibly David and Bathsheba? Might not be great for younger ones . . .
Solomon, the building of the great temple for the Lord
The division of Israel?
Some of the other kings of Israel . . .
Like Josiah, who found the Book of the Law (2 Kings 22, 2 Chronicles 34)
(Haven't read past Nehemiah yet, so the rest is kind of blurry to me)
Jonah and the whale
Prophecies of and birth of Jesus (good for around Christmas time)
Some lessons from the sermon on the mount
Some of the miracles of Jesus (walking on water, healing the sick, feeding large crowds, etc.)
Some of the parables of Jesus (mustard seed's a good one)
Last supper, death of Jesus
Resurrection
Saul to Paul
Miracles done by disciples
That's all I can think of right now. biggrin

Emu, one you forgot is that you should go over the meaning and purpose of some of the psalms. Those are both entertaining, enjoyable, and very meaningful

I teach sunday school with a friend. ages two through six. What i notice, is those children can tell you abuot Joseph and his coat of colors, they can tell you why jonah was eaten by a fish. But they don't know Jesus, and they don't know his name. Definitely encorporate a lot of Jesus and his lessons because they can never learn about him enough. and some day when they meet him, they'll need to know. wink
