Hey guys, just got back from my second day on the job as Teaching Assistant. There is a child in my class that both myself (the untrained person) and my good friend Dr. Gordon (a trained professional) feel has ADHD. This makes teaching him very, very hard. I end up having to reteach him everything the class has already done. My conservitive estimate is that he learns at 30% of the rate the other children do.
Point of this post? If you guys have any ideas for teaching Hebrew and stuff for kids with dissorders (ADHD), pweeeeese share 'em.

i have adhd, so that is really all you can do is help this child. perhaps find some of the little quizzes that help you find out if you learn visually, kentic (w/hands), or listening I learn visually lol.
Then like find ways to help that person remember what they ahve learned another thing is that you can call the parents and just make sure that the child is doing his or her homework and not just going hom and watching t.v
also you have to be patient with them, they have no control over what they do. if you punish them for doing it, then that is just stupid. Instead maybe set rewards. Like if they are good and maybe like can remember how to do 1 or 3 math things and a spelling word at the end of so many days they will get a treat.
When I went to my privite cathlic school the second they learned i had adhd they didnt' do jack s**t if i didnt' get somethign that was my fault, so i just gave up. I had 2 teachers that cared in the course of 5 years going there ( i took first grade twice). when my parents finally sent me to a better school district and to a public school they found out that i was in 4th grade and had all the education of a first grader. that is really really bad.
So what they did was they would have me do these little cards that my teacher would sign if i did all my homework and if i did all my homework in one day i would get a sticker and at the end of the week i would get a treat this could be a keychain, 2 cool pencils, a small pack of stickers, can of pop all of these things were like 60 cents to a dollar but were cool to me.
They had to push me alot because my mind set was that i didn't have to do anything, and if i faught them enough they would give up. Well my new teachers wouldn't give up on me and what came from that is that in 4 years I learned everything up to my grade level and farther. So at the end of my 7th grade year in only liek 3 years i had learned all the information from first grade to 7th grade and i was slightly above average in reading and enlgish, compaired to me going to school in 4th grade and not even knowing how to read.
Eh my sentece structure sucks in e-mails and stuff lol so it's way better if i was to like type this out as a report lol.
Oh sub note adhd is Attention Defisent hyperactive disorder.. yea i can barely spell it lmao. Basicly it is where the brain can't constintrat on one thing for very long it wonders very easily. Like when i take notes in science class ig et bored really easily and like zone out lol, but as in math class where my teacher explains the notes as he writes them out too it is easier for me to take notes.. plus my math notes are pretty the only thing i like about math is taking the notes lol.

Thanks for the response guys. I just want to clarify somthing: I'm not completely clueless. This will be my 3rd year teaching. Never delt with a child who had ADHD, but meh, let me have some of my ego, please...
Anyways, basic thigns I am seeing are
-Find learning style (why didn't I think of that?) -Use reward system (Good Idea) -Patiance/Steadfastness (Oh, do I know about this one...) -Push
All are great ideas. Any other suggestions?

uh be understanding children with adhd are most often more artistic which means that they are more right or left brained o.0 basicly the english/art side which means that we suck in math and science most of the time so if he is struggling in math or science be understand.
keeping intouch with the aprents is a big thing maybe talk tot he parents about it?
oh and you MUST have a system i think that systems help me out ALOT it took me like forever to find my organization style but now that i found it my grades are AWSOME. my stype is basicly folders. lol i know really stupid but it took me a while to get it.
-.- my cat is obbessing over my attention lol

Yea, about the parents...I don't want to sound like an a**, but they scare me. They are converting to Judaism from some Christian denomination, and are, just, scary. Don't get me wrong, I will do whats best for the kid; its my job. Just had to vent. xd
