Tooki had been staring at the berries on the bush for the past half hour. He couldn't remember which berries were the safe ones. The red berries....or the blueberries.
He sighed and looked around, wishing there was someone to ask. The stallion already eaten his fill of the sweet grass nearby, he'd just had his heart set on a little dessert. Something sweeter than the grass.
Red...or blue?

Feeling particularly mellow, Czarina made her way through the tall grasses, enjoying the sweet smell of earth, and fruit, that carried on the breeze. It was days like this that she was content to just savor her surroundings.
Flicking her tail, she swatted idly at a fly that buzzed around her left hind leg--the insects were the one thing that she did not appreciate about the warmer weather. Distracted, she looked up...and stopped dead in her tracks. Usually she was more aware of the presence of other soquili than that--she wasn't very far from where Tooki stood, indecisive as he stared at the berry bush.
Clearing her throat to make her presence known, Czarina tilted her head to the side, expression openly curious.

Tooki looked toward the sound, then blinked. Were those scales?
The stallion turned a bit to look a ther fully, nodding slightly. "Hello...did you want some berries too?"

Making her way closer, Czarina stopped a few feet from Tooki, eyeing the berry bush thoughtfully for a moment, before looking his way with no small amount of concern. "I hope you weren't eating the red ones--the last time I indulged in them, I ended up with a bellyache like you wouldn't believe..."
Hesitating a moment, she continued. "But, I don't think I've ever tried the blue ones before--are they good?" She sniffed at them curiously, as if that would tell her whether or not they were safe.

"I...hadn't tried either," Tooki replied shyly. He hated admitting he couldn't remember things he was taught as a foal. He sighed and looked at them, "I couldn't remember which were the safe ones to eat."
He looked at her, then nodded to the grass he'd eaten earlier. "That's safe to eat, though. It has a sweet taste to it."
The stallion blinked, then remembered his manners. "I'm Tooki...who are you? Are those really scales?"

Chuckling, Czarina nodded. "It can be confusing, especially as many of them are somewhat similar in shape and smell."
Eyeing the grass, she bent her head down, sniffing at it consideringly for a moment before raising her head to answer his question, and introduction.
"I'm Czarina. And yes, they are!" They felt very differently from her skin, when they happened to brush up against something in passing--they were slightly less sensitive to pressure and texture. It was obvious, from how comfortably she answeredt he question, that he was far from the first to be curious about the gold scales that covered her back.

"They're very pretty. I met another mare who had feathers," Tooki rambled, stepping closer to inspect the scales. "I think my father has scales. Are you part Kelpi too? He is....he has a big fish tail."
He glanced at the berries, then the grass, then back at the mare. "I wasn't really hungry for the berries. I just wanted something like dessert after my meal. I once ate a big green bumpy apple. It was pretty good, but I don't remember where I saw it. I travel a lot."

Craning her neck so that she could keep an eye on him, Czarina shook her head. "No...at least, I don't think I am." She really didn't dwell on why she had scales--but she rather liked them--they didn't snag on things, like fur, or hair, could. But the idea of a soquili with a fish tail intrigued her.
"Don't you worry about getting lost?" Although, she supposed that if one didn't really have a settled 'home', that it was harder to be unable to find one's way back to it.

"No, I don't worry about getting lost. You can only find the really interesting things when you're good and lost," Tooki told the mare, smirking a little. He nodded toward where he knew the river to be. "I find my way by the river. Father said it runs to it's beginning and to it's end. It's beginning is in the mountains, usually, and it's end is the big water....the ocean."
"Do you like your scales?" The stallion turned back to Czarina. He tilted his head, curiosity getting the better of him. "The mare with the feathers didn't like them much...or, she seemed not to. All I have is hair. Nothing pretty like scales....or even the big tusks my mother has."

Czarina chuckled, shaking her head. "Yes, but if you can't find your way back to where you were meaning to go, then it becomes problematic, no?"
Thinking about his own question for a moment, she nodded. "I do, actually. They're different, yes--but they're also somewhat unique. They're a lot more solid than bare skin." It wasn't something she really thought on all that much.

I don't forget where I came from...usually," Tooki shrugged, tapping his hooves a little like a young foal. "But, I don't have a home either...so I just bed down where I'm tired...long as it's safe."
The stallion nodded to the mare, "They certainly are unique. Bet you don't get hurt wrestling or anything, huh?"
