I have a character on an RP server and he has a really cool hat that I make him wear in town but when he's in battle I make him wear a different hat that has really good stats but looks terribly ugly. How can I make macros that not only allows me to switch back and forth between the hats but also turns off helm display when I put the ugly one on and turns it back on when I put on the cool one? Anyone know? Is it even possible?

Not a macro, but Item Rack will allow you to do this.

You'd have to type /equip ITEM GOES HERE for every piece of gear excluding stuff like neck, rings and trinks, and you have a character limit in the macro window, of course. Its doable, I guess. So like /equip Soul-Collar of the Incarnate /equip Merciless Gladiator's Satin Mantle /equip Shroud of the Lore'nial /equip Harbinger Bands /equip Gloves of the Incarnate /equip Nethershard Girdle /equip Trial-Fire Trousers /equip Ruby Slippers /equip Gladiator's War Staff
But you can see how you'd run out of room pretty quick. Better to just get Item Rack or Outfitter like Fah suggested.
Am working on upgrading s**t like my pants, belt, boots and staff, shut the ******** up

But what I wanted was a way to change helm display with a macro. Can it not be done?

i believe u can choose to simply not display your helm in the interface options or something i think. You'll still get the stat benefits anyway. i have no idea to change the helm with macros though.
