Except, sometimes you weren't learning how to throw knives, or fly, or what your dragons favorite food was. Sometimes, sometimes D-corp was just school, and you sat in class, and you took notes.

And you got bored.

And so it was. Earako sat in her math class, swinging her legs and quietly doodling on the edges of her paper instead of listening to what the teachers were saying. These sort of classes, the ones full of students, so that you never got to really talk to anyone were good in their way.

She didn't get singled out. She didn't get scared. It helped, of course, that the teacher was female.

But she didn't know the names of most the students in the class, and she didn't want to know about division.

So she doodled, and absently, smoothed the lace on the sleeves of her dress. As the class allowed it, she was dressed to the extreme today, in one of her better attempts. Dark red satin to match the dragon at her side, layered over with lovely black lace in a skirt that slid against her skin, sleek and soft down to her toes. The top was of similar make, the lace extending out over her hands, hiding the pale things from view. She'd even woven a pair of ribbons together, and tied that in her hair.

Earako was beautiful.

Now, Emi was in no way, shape, or form attracted to the female gender - nor was she particularily interested in people that looked like her. It was part of what made her reach out to Keivlos so much, she had supposed once, but she had enjoyed talking with Alora - so maybe Earako would be just as nice.

Maybe.

In comparison to Earako and her lovely dress, Emi was.. plain. Painfully plain. She had just come from an early dance lesson and was thus equipped in a cream leotard with light blue tights. Her hair was bound up into a loose bun and... well. She smelled. Birds might not sweat, but humans did. Unfortunately, or fortunately?, she took after her human half on that part. Still, she tried to keep her shoulders back and chin up.

It was math, though. Math was boring.

Emi gently tugged a page from her notebook and scrawled a message out on it. The paper was folded into a little triangle before teh swan leaned over. It was slid, very sneakily, onto Earakos desk.

Quote:
Hi. I'm Emi.

Earako was quite subtle about accepting the note, her deft fingers quickly unfolding it and smoothing it flat on top of her notes. She read it quickly, and glancing over, flashed the other girl a quick smile. And since it was a girl, and not a brightly colored, intimidating one, Earako quickly wrote back.

But... what was she wearing? Earako eyed her thoughtfully. Now, if she was a gymnist or a ballerina, it made sense for her to have a leotard. But shouldn't it be sparkly? The batling could think of some wonderful things that might be done with glitter, or contrasting fabrics.

Quote:
I'm Earako. Do you do dance? Or flips?

She wrote the words quickly, then drew a picture of Emi in the corner, in a blue leotard with swirls of silver. She added silver ribbons trailing down from Emi's bun, for good measure. Of course... she didn't have her proper design pencils, so the colors were labeled with arrows instead. The picture wasn't half bad, considering. Earako spent a lot of the time she wasn't sewing doodling her plans.

Emi smiled back, although it was a little slower, a bit more hesitant then the bats. She wasn't altogether sure what kind of girl Earako was, other then pretty, but the smile was reassuring.

She almost squirmed under Earakos scrutiny, bowed away from it once the note was passed back to her. A little flick and another smile crinkled at her lips at that small doodle. Emi went to pick up her pencil, and thought better of it. Instead, she plucked the light blue pen Dagger had given her instead to write back her reply.

Quote:
I dance. Ballet. I just came from a class. I like your dress - and the picture. It's very cute.

While she wasn't the artist that Earako was, Emi drew a quick little smilie face after her sentence. It was passed back in a ninja-like manner.

Another note sneakily unfolded and scanned, and Earako glowed a bit at the compliment. It was a nice dress. She'd worked really hard on it. It'd taken a long time, but she was pleased with the result.

In the corner she did another quick sketch of Emi, but this time in the sort of outfit one might imagine on a fairy princess, long and ruffled with notations of 'blue' and 'silver' in the corners.

Quote:
Thank you. I could make you one. That's what I do. This class is boring.

Folding the note into a small square, she passed it back across.

Emi caught it quickly and giggled, just softly, as she rose one hand to cover her mouth. It was so cute!

Quote:
You make dresses? Really? That sounds like fun! How would you make one for me? You're taller. ...I think.

Yes. It is. I'd rather be at the studio.

She wasn't one for eyeballing measurements, obviously. But it was folded and slipped back.

Taking the note, Earako read it quickly. She looked over at the girl again, considering. Everything she'd made so far had been for family. Herself, Tansi, Jer'ain (when the other girl allowed it) so she wasn't exactly accustom to working without measurements either. In fact, she'd never made something for a friend, as much as she might have wanted to.

It'd be a new challenge. She was getting ahead of herself.

Quote:

I'd have to measure you. You could come over to my house. I'd could do some sketches. If you're interested. I'm not very good. You could find better things online.

But, I'd make it special for you.

At the prospect of actually working with someone, insecurity bubbled, and in the least expected area. Earako was usually pretty confident about her designs.

Folding the note neatly, she handed it back, her smile taking on a slightly nervous edge.

Emi peeked back at her when Earako gave her that look over, a small smile teasing over her lips. She had a few friends but most of them were related to her in some manner. Most people just found her too shy or, as her mother announced, too girlie and soft to be of any fun. Rakha, though, liked to assure her that Dagger didn't mean it.

Earako seemed just as girlie and soft and she was much prettier. Her ears! Emi was apparently good at making friends with other soft, pale things. Alora, Emi... At least this time she wasn't crying, right? Right.

She leaned over and caught the paper with another shy smile and flicked it open. Eyes fluttered over the message and she began to scrawl right back, almost humming under her breath.

Quote:
That would be fun. I don't think my mother would mind; she says I need more friends before I melt away.

I think you're good. And if it was made special, no one could find better.

A little fold and, with the teachers back turned, it was returned.

The girl was sweet, wasn't she? Yes, she was. Earako glittered a bit, buoyed up by the kind words, preening under praise, though it was praise yet unearned.

Yes, she would make Emi a dress! And it would be the best dress, and Emi would look beautiful in it, and everyone would think she was the most lovely ballerina ever.

Oh sure, Emi was like her, white and pale, simple and plain. But she could make beautiful things, and if Emi could wear them while doing something beautiful like dancing...

well...

maybe that meant something.

Quote:
I'll tell my Dad tonight that I want you to come over. And we can go fabric shopping together, and maybe I can see you dance? He'll be happy. He thinks I'm... umm... reclisive? Shy.

Hopefully, she wasn't being too bold she thought, as she slipped the note back over to Emi.

Emi rather liked to make other people all shiny and happy. It made her feel better. Making peple happy meant that she, herself, was doing something right. It was a very good thing.

So, she smiled as Earako glittered and reached over. The note was taken with the ease of the ninja and stowed away in her desk for a brief moment as the teacher glanced over. Just as quickly, her pen was out and her scrawl once more became tangible on the paper.

Quote:
Mother says I am too quiet too. She'll be happy. I like you. [insert a happy face she drew]

Our phone number is xxx-xxx-xxxx. It will be fun. I've never been to a fabric store before!

She glanced at the teacher before sliding it back to Earako.

The class was coming to an end, and now all the students were shuffling their notebooks into their backpacks and having little whispered conversations as the teacher wrapped up the lesson. Earako followed suit, tucking away her pencil and stretching her wings.

As she did, Vimber made her way over, a slender long line of red that wrapped around Earako's legs and looked appraisingly, though not disapprovingly at Emi.

"I'll call you." The batling promised. Her voice was a soft, gentle whisper, low and quiet. Her smile was careful, but seemingly genuine.

Patting her dragon lightly, she pushed away Vimber's head and neck, and moved to give Emi a hug before they parted.

"It'll be fun." She murmured. "I'm excited."

Odette wasn't too far behind Vimber, but instead of trying to wrap around her girl protectively, she squirmed her way against a desk. Odette leaned, her wide eyes on the other duo. She twitched her tail as Earako got closer.

"That will be nice." Emi said, and allowed small smile to twist at her lips. She was blushing, although she didn't know why. The thrill of a new friend, perhaps? Either way, she slipped a bit closer and returned the hug Earako was offering.

"Me too." She nodded and stepped back after a moment. Odette was instantly near her, feathered head pressed tight against her thigh. "I- Thank you for talking to me. This.. This is Odette. I have to go, though.. Class."
