Camlan was excited. Lesson three seemed like it was going to be easy... Hopefully not too easy. The orb given to him by the Masters couldn't just be a regular orb, could it? Blinking golden eyes as he walked out to the Courtyard, near the tree where he and Jhordaan worked on the previous lesson, the vulpine boy sat down cross-legged.

He pulled out a small leather bag and dumped a handful of wooden blocks onto the ground. Gently, he pulled out the small silver orb and placed it in the middle of the blocks. When he was on his parents ship, he had played games with small dolls, sticks, and blocks while his mother and father negotiated trades. His tail moved slightly from side to side as he thought back to his time on the ship. That would help him move the objects around.

First, Camlan thought about the large orange block to his left. Concentrating, he made it lift up and set on top of a small blue block. He still remembered! This was great... He wondered if the Masters would mind him using the blocks as well as the orb. Focusing on the orb, he thought about it moving and resting on top of the orange block. The silver ball started to rise slowly but then wobbled and fell back down.

"Rats! I knew it couldn't be that easy." Putting his paw-like hands in his lap, Camlan lost himself in thought as he tried to figure out the silver toy.

Camlan picked up the silver sphere and studied it closely. He knew he could make his blocks move... But why did he know that? The Amaran rolled the ball around in his paws and thought back to the first time he made small dolls move.

His motivation then had been to keep busy and stay out of trouble. With his blocks, what spurred him was to practice and not let Lady Naree down. Perhaps, this time... He should try not to let himself down. Nodding slowly, Camlan thought and rolled the ball around some more. When he did not believe in himself, things were harder. And when he saw others succeeding, it made him embarrassed. But Master Sva-La stated that emotion could get in the way of concentration and being one with the Force.

The ball was whirling faster now in his hands as he continued to think and meditate.

When he did the second lesson, he had to focus and calm himself to be able to reach out and feel Jhordaan. It had felt good to just let go and not worry so much. Lady Naree always said he was too serious for someone his age. One time, Camlan had asked her aged and she just laughed. "Me? I will never age. I just won't be one day."

Camlan tried not to think that far ahead. He preferred to live in the Now of things. He could feel the cool, smooth surface of the ball going round and round in his hands. Idly, he began to toss it as it touched his left paw and spin it around with his right. Maybe, it was because it felt different or he never had a toy like this one before, Camlan thought to himself. It did look like an ordinary kids toy. Or perhaps, he pondered, ears twitching and paws moving quickly to keep the ball going, that was the problem. There was nothing to the ball except for the fact that it was a ball.

And then, something extraordinary happened.

While whirling the ball around in his paws, Camlan missed. As his eyes widened and he prepared to catch the sphere, Camlan realized something. The little silver toy did not fall. It was still whirling around like he had it in his paws!

Trying not to be excited, golden orbs followed the silver one and slowly the orb slowed down but continued its rotation. Hands draped on his knees, Camlan lost site of everything around him and focused merely on the ball. In his mind, he could actually see his Force signature trailing behind. This was amazing!

A shout from another student broke his concentration. The ball fell down and landed in the grass with a soft thud. Instead of being discouraged, Camlan felt elated! He wondered in any of the other students had had such success like he did... The Amaran boy jumped up to go tell someone but his ears drooped a little. He had no one to tell.

But that would change too. Things were changing for Camlan for the better.
