Cobalt lurked in the shadows, making his way towards his makeshift home, a moonlit clearing in the forest. He would never travel during the day, it was too exposed and open. Not to mention that if anyone saw him, they would probably be afraid of him. Cobalt had taken to keeping out of sight, as he didn't want to cause fear in anyone. He knew that it wasn't a good or healthy thing to do, but it seemed easier than trying to convince everyone he met that he wasn't evil.
Surprisingly, Cobalt was in a very good mood. It was a lovely night, the moon was out, the bats were chirping, and a warm breeze was blowing through the trees. He couldn't let himself feel unhappy on such a night.

Snorting softly, Czarina tossed her head, finding it more difficult than she'd like, to see at night. It wasn't that she had particularly poor night vision, but in the forest, which in parts was quite dense, she was finding it difficult to avoid minor pitfalls--at this rate, she'd have to be grateful if she didn't end up seriously injuring herself.
She stood out starkly in the dark, pale coat shining like a beacon. Stopping for a breather in a small clearing, the moonlight glinted off've her scales, a shimmer of molten gold. There was something to be said, she couldn't help but notice, for the quiet that overtook the forest once the sun went down.

As silent as the shadows he walked in, he approached his clearing only to find a pale colored mare standing in the center of it.
Debating swiftly what to do, he decided to risk the chance that she would be afraid of him and reveal himself to her, if only because he wished to know how she got to be so deep in the forest.
"Why, hello there." He said softly from the shadows. Perhaps he could talk to her first, and if luck was with him, he wouldn't ever have to leave the shadows he had become so accustomed to.

At the sudden voice, Czarina's head flew up, eyes peering curiously into the surrounding forest to see just whose voice she was hearing. After a brief moment to recover her composure, she cleared her throat. "Good evening." Cocking her head to the side, her expression was expectant--who else was out wandering in such darkness?
If it struck her as curious that the owner of the voice hadn't revealed himself before speaking, her expression didn't show it. "I hope I'm not disturbing you-I couldn't resist getting out for a walk, tonight."

She didn't seem very startled, perhaps she was made of stronger stuff than Cobalt gave her credit for. Either way, she hadn't run off screaming at the sound of an unfamiliar voice, so that was a plus.
"No, you're not disturbing me." Cobalt chuckled, wondering how this pale and golden mare, fit for the sunlight, would find this night too lovely to resist. "It is a very pleasant evening tonight, that's for sure, far more pleasant than others." He decided not to tell her that she was standing in his home. After all, a clearing in the woods wasn't typically "private property." It wouldn't hurt for her to be here. Besides, he could use some company.
Cobalt still remained in the shadows, firmly believing that it was better to remain hidden. But, if she asked, he knew he would have to expose himself. After all, it would seem a bit unsettling to her to have to speak to the shadows, without knowing who she was speaking to.

Looking up, Czarina nodded. "That it is. Lately, the nights have been so cloudy, it's been hard to see the stars--but tonight, the sky is clear..." Shaking her head, she couldnt' help but notice that he still hadn't made himself visible. Curiosity piqued, she stared in the general direction that his voice was coming from.
"Did I catch you at an awkward moment?" Her tone was relaxed, completely at ease. It wasn't that she was overly reckless, or without caution--but she was good at reading others, and his voice was friendly, without aggression--a good companion for conversation, in her books.

Cobalt couldn't help but smile. She peered into the darkness , searching for him, but she stared at a spot at least three feet from where he stood. He was beginning to believe that he was right, that she would like to put a face to his voice. But she was not afraid of him. Her voice carried no inflection of fear, or of anything except pure kindness.
"No...not exactly an awkward moment. I just don't want to frighten you, that's all. I have a tendency to do that...especially at night." He chuckled softly, shuffling his wings, pulling them tighter to his body. "As you can see, or rather, not see, I am more at home in the shadows than in the light."

Czarina shook her head. "You've given me no reason to be afraid of you--to base fear on an appearance, given that you've been pleasant thus far would be foolish, would it not?" Something in the way he said it made her wonder just what sort of response he was used to.
Perhaps it was naive of her, but never having encountered a kalona, or half-kalona before, she had not learned to fear them, or to err on the side of caution. Besides, with her scales, she was used to being seen as slightly...different.

Cobalt laughed softly, for he realized she was right, and that he was being a worrisome and foolish. "Very well, then, you have convinced me. I will step out of the shadows." He tentatively took a step out, then another, and another, until he stood, head bowed slightly, out in the center of the clearing, feeling more exposed than ever. Wings folded loosely across his back, he offered the mare a smile, hoping she would not be afraid. "I am Cobalt." He said simply, shuffling his wings nervously, awaiting her response.

Czarina looked him over, before returning her gaze to his face, inclining her head slightly. "I'm Czarina. And that's much better--I don't feel as though I'm talking to anyone within earshot, now."
Hesitating a moment, she cocked her head to the side, expression shifting from courteous to curious. "Can you actually fly?" Her mind was already racing ahead, and she wondered what the world must look like, from up above.

Cobalt tried his best not to stiffen, as she looked him over. He breathed a sigh of relief as he realized that she would not be one of the ones who rejected him on sight. He laughed again as she spoke, a mischievous grin pulling on the corners of his mouth. "We are well met, Czarina. And while I doubt that anyone is in earshot, I'm glad that you are more comfortable."
Cobalt's ears pricked forward at her question. She seemed very curious, and was the first grounded he'd met that expressed interest in flying. "I can indeed. Not quite as smoothly as a Wind, but I manage."
