Quote:
Romanian girl in UK for abortion

Late-term abortions are outlawed in Romania
An 11-year-old Romanian girl is to have an abortion in the UK despite being cleared to have one in Romania.

The girl is 22 weeks pregnant after being raped by an uncle, who has since gone missing.

Abortion is illegal in Romania after 14 weeks, but a government panel last week decided she could have a termination because of exceptional circumstances.

The British charity Marie Stopes said it had arranged for the girl to have an abortion at an unnamed London hospital.

The organisation said it was approached by representatives of the girl after her arrival in Britain several days ago.

"With the girl's well-being a paramount concern, and immediate access to the service a priority, Marie Stopes International was able to make alternative arrangements for her," it said.

"She will now be treated in a public hospital under a private arrangement funded by Marie Stopes International."

'Decision for family'

Some 20 Christian Orthodox groups in Romania had threatened to press charges if the girl was allowed to abort the baby there.

But a government committee decided the operation could take place because the girl was a victim of sexual abuse and faced "major risks to her mental health" if the pregnancy continued.

While some pro-life Christian Orthodox groups had urged the family to keep the child, and offered to raise it in a church institution, the Romanian Orthodox Church said any decision on abortion should be left to the family.

Marie Stopes said it was encouraged that the Romanian government was "preparing new legislation to extend the Romanian limit on abortion upwards from its existing 14-week maximum in certain circumstances".

Oh my god, that's sickening. First off, that poor child. Secondly, that poor child's child. The rape was the uncle's fault, not the fault of the baby. Why should that baby be killed? This world is just plain messed up and wrong. And how dare the choice to slaughter a helpless child be supported. A 22 week old shows the same signs of life as 1 4 year old, does that mean that we should murder allt he unwanted 4-year-olds? Money should go toward supporting the baby and his or her life, not supporting it's destruction. Who knows if THAT baby would be the one to cure aids? This world is so messed up. And I pray for the eleven-year-old's forgiveness and pray that god will not hold her parent's choice (and yes, it is her parent's choice, no eleven year old understands the weight of life and death) to allow their grandchild to be ripped from their daughter's woumb and murdered against the little girl. I pray that god will see that it is not the child's fault, and I pray that mother and child will be reunited in heavon as the grandparants burn in hell, for then they can be at peace. Wow, that was a rant sweatdrop

I'm pretty sure the 11 year old is too young to need prayers for her forgiveness; I'm pretty sure that due to the complexity and adult nature of this situation, an 11 year old would not be judged like an adult would be. And the parents don't deserve hell, I think. What they saw was their little girl suffering, and that she could possibly suffer a lot more. No parent wants that for their children. I would have done things differently, but still, if anything, pray for the parents and pray for the daughter because this is quite an ordeal.

I'm hoping they won't be met with hatred back home. The last thing that family needs is to be called murderers, the last thing that girl needs is to grow up being told that she is a baby-killer by those around her. I know there's a good chance it will happen, and that well-intentioned people will write them tons of letters trying to save them but I think that would ultimately drive them further away, be completely futile, and just put them through more grief and misery as they make that girl relive the rape and abortion (22 weeks is pretty late along. Her mental health is at a pretty big risk either way at this point).

Love the sinner, hate the sin. It's hard, but if we lose sight that even those who do bad things are beloved children of God, we lose sight of all that is important, for we are all sinners.

"Major risks to her mental health?"

She was freaking raped by her uncle, and she's been pregnant for 22 weeks already. I doubt an abortion is going to do anything positive for her mental health whatsoever.

I have to agree with Zin-She was raped by a family member and been pregnant for 22 weeks now. Abortion isn't going to help her get over it mentally, if anything there is a possiblity of her getting worse due to regrets and since it's late term, there is even more risks and complications involved.

I hope people won't give her a hard time if she goes through with it but I doubt it will help her mental health in any way and praying won't help her either; She would probably need years of counseling in order to really try to recover from the whole ordeal.

I dissagree that praying will not help, it has helped me with a lot of things before.
