Getting DEEPER into the details:
These are the specific/basics of the rules in semi-list form.
- POSTINGWhen you post a story, you better think carefully about which forum it goes in! If you have little intention of commitment, then get in the SHORT STORY forums. NOT CREATIVE WRITING!! That forum is specifically for LONGER, CHAPTER-LADEN stories.
A posted story will contain ALL ITS CHAPTERS IN THE SAME THREAD!! No thread per chapter. Disregard this, and I will DELETE THE CHAPTER whether or not you have it saved on your computer. I guess you'll have to write it all again and post it WHERE IT SHOULD BE. NO EXCEPTIONS. You can whine all you want; I'm not gonna give mercy for wasting forum space.
Now, if you do intend to write a long-term story, then you have these simple rules/guidelines (if you want to go WAY deeper, then check out the Writer Guidelines):
- post a prologue first; give people a sneak peak and root yourself to a topic. It's not demanded, but suggested.
- after the prologue, you have two months to write your first chapter. If there was no prologue, then forget this rule.
- after each chapter, you have one month to write another. I'll allow exceptions for this, but unless you're a 30 page on mWord writer, then I doubt I'll give leniency. Yes, we have school and work and such, but it's not like I'm asking for an entire novel. I write about seven to ten paragraphs per RP post nowadays, and I use about two to three hours to accomplish that. If you have only one hour of free time, over the span of an entire month, you can accomplish at least thirty paragraphs!
NOTE: All stories with at least one month inactivity will receive a PM from me. If you intend to continue, tell me, and you get another month. If you don't, then I'll delete the topic. If I have no reply within two days, I will DELETE the story. Don't worry, if you're out of town, I'll know; I have ways of knowing whether or not you've been recently active and are just ignoring me to 'buy' time.
- WRITING- prologues - at worst, these are the span of a literate RP post. In other words, five to twelve paragraphs long. In case you didn't know, a paragraph is THREE TO FOUR SENTENCES long. Don't fret- I'll won't actually be counting. As long as it is at least a paragraph, I'm fine for a prologue.
THEY CAN BE LONGER!!
- chapters - I expect two to three pages on mWord. TimesNewRoman point 12. Having more is fine, but I will count the text to make sure you reach a minimum. These can also be longer.
And remember, the enter button actually LENGTHENS the story length. Who knew?! Don't use it in excess, though; one in between each paragraph. As in:
Quote:
blahblahblahblahblah
>
yadayadayadayadayadayadayadaYou can use as much as you want in scene breakers, but don't be ridiculous:
Quote:
scene1scne1scene1scene1
~~~~~
scene2scene2scene2scene2scene2
- scenes - I bet you're going- what the hell is this?? Easy, it's a change in scenery. A change in point of view or such. Id est, we have Bob walking down the street when he gets ambushed and dragged into a dark alley. Then, we have our pretty in-between thingie and change it to Lucy, who is walking down the street and sees Bob get kidnapped. Heck, we can have her in first person too, if we wanted!!
This cleans everything up for readers and makes it all easier to understand. Don't just spontaneously change scenes without any indication- this helps the readers from getting confused.
- CONTINUITYAKA, if you write in the CREATIVE WRITING forum, I expect you to KEEP writing. Hence, the time limits.
- TWO MONTHS to write the next chapter after the prologue.
- ONE MONTH to write each successive chapter
- TWO DAYS to reply to my warnings
- 24 HOURS to live if you disregard my rules
Now, I know you're thinking- Why is there a deadline at all?
Just to be frank, this deadline isn't something I will actually enforce. I was in a bad mood when I wrote the rules. I just want people to realize that if they're gonna post here, they have to realize that they should be prepared for a commitment. Isn't that what writing a story's all about? Committing yourself for the readers?
