Walking along and thinking to herself the winged mare gave a small sigh. Her youngest daughter Neva she had not seen in some time but yet she knew that her daughter hated her. This made Adelle sad and she couldn't understand what went wrong. Had she made the wrong choices? Perhaps maybe she just was not a good mother? Her mate knew nothing of her problems and for that she was glad. She need not worry him with her sadness and thoughts of Neva.

The smell of rotting flesh interrupted the mare's thoughts. Immediatly Adelle looked around for the source of the smell and if it's predator was nearby. But not sensing anything that was alive nearby she allowed her guard to go back down. Perhaps maybe it was just someone's dinner leftovers. Returning back to her thoughts in which she hadn't been thinking about for more then a few minutes when once again she was interrupted. Only this time she tripped over something, which caused her to stumble.

Getting back up on all four hooves Adelle spotted the source of her fall. A basket? Here? Where was it's parents? "Hello?! Anyone here?!" The winged mare called out hoping for an answer in return. She walked a few feet away to see if she could spot anybody when the smell of the rotten flesh came back even stronger. It was here she found the body of a half rotted soquili. Backing up slowly the now wide eyed mare just couldn't believe what she had seen. Reaching the basket once more she gently maneuvered it onto her back so it rested between her wings and hurried as fast as she could away from the dead body. "You'll be ok little basket. You'll be safe now." Adelle gently said to the basket. She just hoped Shihab wouldn't mind another basket.

The small body inside the basket was still, so still that were it not warm, it might be mistaken for dead. But it could not move, not yet. The fear that had paralyzed it remained even now, and it could not bring itself to move. It was quiet, so quiet now, no more screams, no more pain. But the fear remained, and so the little one cowered, for the moment, safe in the confines of the basket. It was so quiet, so very quiet that a water droplet could probably be heard. And so when the sound of gentle hoofbeats sounded far off, the foal was aware of them, and cowered even deeper into the basket.

A noise sounded outside of the confines of the basket, and the foal froze, listening as someone called out. It was loud, the voice. Loud on the foal's fearful ears, that were now pinned back against a tiny skull. No answer came to the voice's question, and all of a sudden, something tapped against the side of the basket, and the foal froze again, fearful. The basket shifted just slightly from the tap, and the foal heard the voice stumble. Was it the scary thing? Had the scary thing come back? But no, this didn't feel scary, for this new voice moved the basket, placing it safely up on something warm. It liked the warmth. And the voice, so soft, so nice. Yes, perhaps this voice was safe after all, bringing it to a safe place. It could only hope so.

User ImageQuiet days had come after their second children had left for lives of their own, that a ebony and gold splashed stallion found a lot of time to be alone... Granted that he wasn't still there for his mate and his children when they needed him. This day he found himself merely lounging in the sun, wings folded to his sides, letting the sun bask upon his black. Oh these days were few and far between as clouds were always hovering over the mountains, threatening to drown the valley and all within it. He hadn't known of the small problems with one of his daughters, Shihab had always found that maybe they weren't all going to be kind like himself and Adelle, no. There was bound to be one bad apple in there too.

Rolling over, he propped himself up a bit before shaking his head. Long sandy strands waved as he did. Pure gold eyes glanced around, ears twitching. He heard something in the distance, though what he couldn't tell just yet. He could feel the vibrations in the ground, signifying that it was indeed soquili. Only the faint sounds of bells told him whom it was. Adelle, his dove, silver bell and beloved mate. Standing quickly, he wondered what made her move this quickly. Shihab could only hope that no one was hurt...

Adelle was heading back to her home that she lived in for some time now. Having her children there, watching them grow up there, and being with her mate. Home was a wondrous place. Her bells jingled softly as she rushed as quickly as she dared. She really hoped that Shihab wouldn't mind another basket.

As she neared the willow tree she called home she spotted her love looking towards her. "Shihab!" She called out to him, not yelling but loud enough for him to hear. Her quick rush turned into a slow walk as she got ever closer. "Shihab my love. Look what I found." She turned slightly and revealed the basket hidden upon her back. "It was all alone. And there was a dead body near it and so I had to bring it with me. Would you mind if we took it in? We can't leave it all alone." The wind mare gently nuzzled her love hoping that he would allow the basket to stay.

Shihab had stood to greet his love as she slowed from her brisk pace to nuzzle her. His golden eyes watching, questioningly, though his answer was revealed before it could have been answered. A pale basket laid upon his mate's back, protected by her wings. Tilting his head to the side, Shihab stepped closer stretching his neck out to sniff at the basket. So similar the design, though the coloring was like that of his mate. He had to wonder at some point, but knew his Love wouldn't do anything like that, tney love each other too much and the thoughts were dismissed without a second glance.

"Alone you say?" he asked a bit shocked. "Well no, no, of course we can't leave it alone out there. If the parents was killed by something not far from it, I'm sure that whatever did it would have been back."

It was a puzzling thing. Shihab had gotten wind of one of his son's taking in a basket with a mare friend of his. Though Shihab wasn't too sure how reliable the rumor was... But certainly no one could leave something so defenseless alone out there with Kalona and Skinwalkers about. It was unthinkable. Though the basket wasn't of his, he couldn't think of leaving it out in the rain.

"Are you sure?" Adelle asked quietly as she watched Shihab's face. Then a worrysome thought crossed her mind. He didn't think she had it with another stallion did he? Oh! What could go wrong? "You...You don't think I did anything with another stallion do you?" she couldn't help but ask. Her voice was so quiet and her eyes glistened with tears. He couldn't think that could he?

Shihab blinked as Adelle seemed to have read his mind? It certainly wasn't true, sure there were some dark things he would think, but never say. Stepping back away from his mate a moment he watched her as the tears came to her eyes, of course he couldn't think, much less say such things. Shaking his head he came forward once more and nuzzled against her.

"Of course not. Just the color of the basket surprised me. That's all." He tried to explain. "It's nothing as bad as those dark thoughts. I know my Silver bell can do no wrong."

Oh that was coming out wrong and it was already too late to take anything back. He could only hope that she would understand where he was going. He'd never think, nor would he ever think ill of his mate. They were bound by love and there wouldn't be anything between them. Not now and not ever..

The winged mare blinked once and the tears fell gently to the ground. Looking down at the ground so as to avoid looking in Shihab's face she couldn't help but wonder why life was against her. "How can I do no wrong? I'm just like everyone else. Always making mistakes." her voice was barely above a whisper as she tried to keep back the tears. "If you think I've been with another please just say it." She didn't want to hear the words but knew they needed to be said if to get it off his mind.

Shihab felt like he was caught between a rock and a hard place. Though it was just a manner of speaking. Eying his mate he shook his head. Now he was the one making the mistakes in thinking such things. Stepping forward he places his head over her shoulders as a wing came around in a sort of embrace.

"I could never think such things of you my Silver Bell. Mistakes we do make and bad thoughts we do think. But I couldn't think of you going with another. If you had, that would have been your choice, I would still love you no matter what happened." Boy was it getting hard to think "But for now we have a new life to tend to. And a new heart to lighten as I'm sure it has been frightened by whatever it was that it heard killing its parent." He said in a soothing tone, trying to change the subject.

Tuning toward the basket, Shihab watched the woven creation for a moment, thinking of when his own were that small and defenseless. He would treat this one like one of his own. Just as Eton Treats a young one like his.. In Rumor.

"I have heard that one of ours has taken in a young one," Shihab hinted, "Eton and a mare friend of his, I hear had adopted a young life to raise. Even if he is still but a colt at heart." He chuckled at this thinking of his imaginative son.

"Oh Shihab." Adelle said quietly as she nuzzled into him. Perhaps things would be alright now after all. Gently lowering herself to the ground she placed the basket beside her. It was nice to have a basket to tend to once more. And she was determined to be a good mother to it, even if it wasn't hers technically. She rested a wing around the little white basket and pulled it closer to her, leaving her wing wrapped in an embrace.

"Eton? With a foal? Are you sure you heard right?" Adelle questioned as she looked back up at Shihab. "I know it sounds wrong of me but it's hard to believe he could raise a young one. I hope his mare friend knows what's she doing." Her voice sounded worried as she spoke of Eton. Perhaps he would fare well. "Would you like to join me down here with the basket?" she asked quietly, wanting to get the basket acquainted with Shihab.

Folding his forelegs beneath his chest, Shihab lowered himself down upon the other side of the basket. His long tail sweeping across the ground behind him. Wings folding upwards a little to come back down and lay somewhat over his mate's wing. Golden eyes watched the white basket before looking back toward his mate when she asked if he had heard right about Eton.

"Pretty sure. He says that he and his mare friend are getting along with the young one. Said they found it while out looking for a rare blue Orchid or something like that." Shihab shrugged before lowering his head to nudge at the basket gently making sure that no sticks of anything pointed poked at the young life within.

The basket shifted slightly, as the foal within listened to the murmer of voices outside of it's makeshift world. There was another voice now too, deeper than the first, but still nice, not scary. That made it feel a little better, the soft voice must have been bringing it to a safe place. This felt safer anyways. And warm, it liked the warmth. The warmth was comforting, familiar, also safe. It listened to the voices talk, they seemed to be content, and if they were happy, the foal was happy. It was good to be here.

Contented, the tiny foal sighed peacefully, feeling safe now between the warmth of the two bodies that held it. These nice voices would keep it safe, it was certain, it felt safe here. Very much safer than before. And certainly, it was better here, much better. Far better than where it had been before, though it couldn't remember why. Something scary, something bad. But here was good, and that was what mattered.

Adelle smiled at her love as she listened to him speak of their son. "Have you heard anything about Andre? I haven't heard from him in a long while." she said quietly. "We should actually get the family together to meet the new one." The idea now suggested she nudged the basket gently as a bee landed on the white basket.

"I wonder when the little one will come out." The winged mare wondered now. "Hopefully the little one will like us. Do you think it will?" Her voice now sounded worried as she looked back at Shihab. "What if it doesn't like me?"
PostPosted: Tue Jul 08, 2008 1:06 pm

Shihab watched his mate as he shook his head at her normal question of things liking her. In some way he blamed Neva for breaking the calm of the family, though he couldn't raise a hoof to his daughter without real reason to. Shaking his head again he watched Adelle calmly, quietly.

"Adelle, you always ask that question. And I always give the same answer." He stated extending a wing a bit to lay over the basket and mate. "No one can not like you. And don't say Neva doesn't like you, she's just a hard nut. But deep down, I know she still loves you."

Pulling his head close to her, he gave a somewhat serious look, though it was only a brittle coat as it broke away to a comforting one. He could never really be cross, not with his silver bell. Never with her. "I'm sure that the young life within the basket will love you like its true mother. I doubt it will not like you." He just about, no he did completely forget about the other statements about the family coming to visit and see the new little one. Though it would have been a nice idea though...

It was time now, he could feel it. It was like something had clicked, something had changed, and now he knew. And the scary thing, whatever the scariness had been, it was gone now. These soft voices felt safe to him, and in their presence he sensed that he would be safe. So perhaps he should come out now. He could feel the outside world calling to him, and this time it did not sound threatening. Last time, he had peeked his head out of his basket far too early, and it had been a harsh light, blinding his tender eyes.

This time it felt different, it sang to him in a different tune, and he knew that he could trust it this time. And so he began slowly, taking his time. Things rustled on his back, they felt itchy, and he wasn't quite sure how to manuever himself around them...head first then. Maybe that would work out better. With a soft snort, he gently lifted his head, feeling the lid of the basket open, as light flooded into the small space and two large figures greeted his eyes. So these were the vocies then? They must be.

He pushed himself farther out, stepping daintly out of the basket, and then wobbling and collapsing to the ground on his new legs. He stared at them curiously for a moment, wondering exactly how it was they were supposed to work. One at a time. With effort, he lifted them, the things on his back moving again. Could they help him stand up? He tried it, and they flapped, but it did nothing more than unsettle him. So those would have to come later then. With a final heave, he managed to figure out those confusing things called legs, and stood up for the first time, eyes wide and staring at the two beings before him.
