Grace Ann Scantlebury

PostPosted: Wed Jul 02, 2008 8:39 pm

Name : Grace Ann "Gracie" Scantlebury
Gender : female
Age : 11
Year : first
House : Hufflepuff

Ethnicity : Caucasian (British)
Hair/Eye Color : Gracie's hair is a lovely honey blonde and bounces in tight ringlets around her shoulders. Her eyes are unusual, one being a bright blue and the other a bright green.

Pet : A tiny Scops owl named Apollonius
Home Life :
Gracie is the only child of Basil and Constance Scantlebury. Basil and Constance are an older couple and they had long believed that they would never have children. When Gracie came along, they were ecstatic. Both parents call her their miracle baby. Gracie grew up on the Southeastern coast of Cornwall. Both her parents own and manage a small greenhouse and floral shop, with her father taking care of the muggle business while her mother handles the magical. Likely it is the combination of her parents love of plants and Gracie's magic that give her her unusually strong green thumb. Every summer, Gracie helps her parents in their shop. The Scantlebury family is not a rich one by any means. They live comfortably, if a little meagerly, but Gracie doesn't care. Blood status or wealth has never meant anything to her because they were such foreign concepts in their small coastal village.

Diving deeper :
Gracie is full to bursting with boundless energy and life. Her enthusiasm is almost always contagious and there is rarely a room her smile can't brighten. She's incredibly sweet, if a little naive and a tad too eager. Gracie certainly isn't a happy-go-lucky child all the time, though. Her personality seems to consist of extremes; she's either happy or sad, calm or angry. She's rather like J.M. Barries pixies, actually. There seems to be only room enough in her small body for one emotion at a time. Due to her boundless energy, it is often hard for Gracie to concentrate on one thing for any length of time. One thing that is sure to keep her occupied for hours, however, is plants. Gracie adores everything to do with plantlife, both magical and muggle. Many people joke that she has so much life in her that the excess has to go somewhere, and that somewhere is into the plants she cares for. Though her interest in them isn't as strong as her interest in plants, Gracie is also very good when dealing with animals. She has a natural instinct to want to heal, whether her patient is a sick plant or an injured animal. During the warmer months, Gracie loves to be outside. Hiking, climbing trees, and swimming are some of her favorite pasttimes. During the winter, Gracie is content to stay inside, curled up in front of a roaring fire with her parents and their old hound, Beauregard.

Taking a closer look :
Pulling a bowl out of the cabinet, Gracie grabbed a box of cereal and poured herself a bowl, humming to herself as she did so. Her blonde curls bounced around her shoulders as she bounded to the table, plopping down in a chair to eat her breakfast. The sooner she finished, the sooner she could join her parents in the shop. Just as she raised a heaping spoonful to her mouth, an owl flew in the window and dropped a thick envelope next to Gracie's bowl. Letting her spoon drop back into her cereal bowl with a splash, Gracie picked up the letter curiously. Green, scrawling script spelled out her name and address on the front. Her excitement building, Gracie eagerly tore open the envelope, unfolding the thick pieces of parchment inside. She need only read the first sentence to know exactly what it was. With a delighted shriek, Gracie jumped up from the table, letter in hand, and grabbed her cloak off the peg in the hall. She threw the cloak around her shoulders and took off down the lane toward her parents' shop.

A bell jingled overhead as she barreled through the door, skidding to a halt at the counter with a loud shout of, "Mummy! Papa! Come quick!"

Thinking that something was wrong, her parents ran out of the back, frightened expressions contorting their normally friendly faces. An older man with silvery blond hair and thin glasses perched on his nose came around the counter, crouching down in front of the girl and taking hold of her shoulders. A woman, her brown hair streaked premturely with gray and her lovely face creased with laugh lines, followed. "What is it, Gracie? What's wrong?" her father asked, worry lacing his voice.

Gracie smiled brightly, her bell-like laughter ringing through the shop. "Nothing's wrong! I got my Hogwarts letter, Papa! Look Mummy, it's just like yours!" She held out the letter eagerly, her hand shaking with sheer adrenaline. She watched as her mother took the letter, opening it slowly, and glowed with happiness as both her parents' eyes lit up with pride.
