Let's talk about shamanism.

Ecstatic trance is more commonly associated today with schizophrenics and mentally abled people.
In prehistory, and in tribal culture, the shaman is curiously estranged from the social group in such a way that it provides a position of power. He/she is a mediator between the community and the spirit world.
I believe it was Graham Hancock that said a shaman is defined as someone that walks between worlds. Hancock's youtube series
Funny that it can mean a social sort of 'world' and a metaphysical one, rather then how it sounds.
