Heya, folks.
I've just been playing with the flat wounds that my jazz came with, but I'm not so happy with the tone... But in all my history of playing bass, I've never really put the effort into getting good strings for my basses. So now I'm looking for suggestions on good strings? I generally play traditional doom metal a la Candlemass, and Saint Vitus, or Stoner Doom a la Sleep, Kyuss, etc. etc.

That's great. Now what sound are you looking for? A dead, flat tone. A bright tone? You might wanna try some Black Beauties and see how they work for you. I think that might be what you're looking for.

Try some DRs. They are pretty badass. They have plenty of tone styles for ya. Including marcus miller and flea, I know, probably not what you're looking for...
have you tried elixirs?

I'd suggest either D'Addario, or Ernie Ball round wounds.

Doom metal usually uses extra thick strings from what I understand. They like a lot of bass, very heavy stuff. You may want to go with a medium gauge if those feel a little big, but that should give you the sound. For sure you are going to want round wounds. Maybe you could try halfs, but I wouldn't recomend it for Doom metal. I think Ernie Balls would probably be a better bet then any thing else.
