o3 <^|,| |><-TANKS- -Pangea- Pangea is a 3ft, 24 gallon (UK) tank, capable of holding 3 adult fish, or 17.75" of fish excluding tails. It currently has 10kg of 5mm & 7mm Dorset Pea Gravel, which is planted with about 30 plants of various varieties. As for ornaments, there is one VERY large rock, which we found in our garden one morning. We scrubbed it up and boiled it and it's fantastic for hiding most of the filter. There are two hollow, stone-like ornaments and one 'Ancient Greek' ornament in the corner. The tank is run with a Fluval 4+ filter, which turns over a good 10x the amount of water. I don't use the bubbles on this, because the plants are new and need to be moved as little as possible and I don't want them dying when I've only just got them because there isn't enough CO2 in the water. I've ordered a bubble wall and air pump from the LPS...which I regret doing, because of the issue with my plants, but if I turn it on once in a while...maybe putting some C02 in the water to balance it, it'll look lovely and won't hurt. =] It doesn't have a hood or light at the moment...but the tank does get a lot of sun and a lot of light from the room (kitchen/living room-it was the only space we had) so it's ok. When I get a hood, though, it needs to house a light which is at least 31.5W. This tank weighs AT LEAST 310lbs when it's full, so it's pretty heavy!
When I've gotten more tanks, this will be my semi-permanent nursery tank...where my quarantined fish will live until they are big enough to be moved into other tanks. =]

o4 <*}}}}><-HAPPENINGS- -Thrusday, o3 July, 2oo8-Thunder died today. ): We all figured he probably would, though. He wasn't right since we first got him. When he first went in the tank, he went straight to the bottom, all fins clamped and looked just like a shark. HE moved like a shark and always kept away from the other fish. He got better for a few days...had some fun with the bubbles...and then started sinking again. There was nothing I could do.
You can never tell what fish are going to be like when you're at the shop. I mean...you can see ich, columnaris, lice, worms and fungus etc...but you can't see internal issues. And they can just lie dormant. I mean, I quarantined them all...and he was still the same. In the store tanks, they have nowhere to hide and nowhere to move because it's overcrowded and the filters are so strong, it pulls them all around anyway, making them look happy and agile.
On the bright side, my new plants came, so the tank is all planted up, now...and the three left look fantastically happy and healthy and I think they'll all be fine. If one of them is going to succumb to anything, I think it would be Monet. She came home with a ton of ich...ich loves her. xD Obviously, that's gone now...but yeah, I think if anything happens, it'll be to her. But it won't. x3-Thursday, 10th July, 2008-Some of the new plants are starting to look a bit crappy...brown spots and such...so I went to the eBay shop I bought them from and looked at the plant food & fertiliser he was selling. I asked him about some and took a crash course in looking after aquarium plants.
The guy sent a message a little later saying that I didn't need to buy anything from him if I didn't want to, because all the plants he sells are actually grown OUT of water, to make transplanting them to anyones tanks easier. He said that this meant the plants aren't used to being submerged and need to adapt and that the Amazon Sword Plants in particular will start to look a bit brown for a while and they'll lose their leaves and grow new ones which will look slightly different and that I only NEED to buy the food or something if THOSE leaves start to show signs of decay or disease. Since it WAS the ASPs that were looking the worst, I decided to trust the guy (he wasn't trying to sell anything!) and I'm leaving them be for a while. But I've learned a lot about plants today and will probably treat them a lot better!
Chicken Pox is starting to look under the weather again. Hardly surprising, though, since he's in a bowl with nothing else in. Boring and lonely. ): I feel bad for him. My mum says she's found someone down the road who's willing to take him and look after him, so I might hand him over. But I feel like I've failed him. u.u He was also one of the two which were given to my duaghter for her birthday...the other one died...so I mean, it's the last of her own fish. ):
