Mel rested in the cool shade of some trees right off the edge of a nearby wooded area and tried to take a relaxing nap. But with the heat so unbearable today he knew he wasnt going to get any resting time. Plus he had to keep an eye on that filly of his that was running around. He didn't know how on earth she could stand to run around and chase things in the middle of the day when the sun was at its hottest but she didn't seem to mind it too much. As long as she remembered to drink plenty of water. Kahili jumped around through the grass chasing after bugs as usual and even chased after a bird for a bit but those were much too fast for her. Every once in a while she'd start to get too hot but she just ran down to the creek and rolled in the water before heading right back to her game.
She was getting pretty hot again after chasing a bumblebee and headed down to cool off again but this time was different. As she was rolling in the water she spotted a furry creature with large furry ears getting a drink from the creek. She'd never seen such a thing before! Her eyes grew wide and she imediately jumped up and started running after the creature, which turned and bolted off in the opposite direction where her father was laying. Of course without thinking she just kept running after it off into the field.Mel's ears twitched as he layed in the shade. Usually he heard his daughter running back from the creek by now but when he opened his eyes she was nowhere in sight. He sat up right and looked around frantically and just caught a glimpse of a little purple tail disappearing over a hill into the meadow. "Kahili! Come back here this instant!" he shouted as he jumped up and started running after his daughter.

Porsche was trying to keep herself comfortable in the shade, but sadly there was no hiding from the summer sun. She seriously didn't understand how her father could always survive while being so dark in the heat, and she moaned slightly as dapple of sunlight hit her leg. In a few hours the sun would have moved, and the tree's shade would leave her comfort. Until then though, she was stay huddled under that tree, and just observe the heat wave that was going on around her. Everything looked so sticky, and she seriously hated that!
Much to her surprise though, she heard the sound of laughter, and within moments a filly was running around in the distance. She had to admit, it was fun to watch the little gal run back and forth and chase the exciting create she found. Porsche found herself laughing a bit, until hearing a familiar voice call after. When she spotted the blue stallion, she then realized that it was Mel, and what a surprise that was! Who was he chasing after? Porsche was starting to get excited at the thought of it all! "Hey Mel! Over here!"

Mel continued on after the filly but with no success of catching her, her small little legs were a lot quicker than they looked. He started to slow a bit and came to a complete stop when he heard his name called. His ears swiveled around a bit to try and find the source of the call and his eyes finally fell on the dark figure laying in the shade to escape the sun. "....Porsche?? Is that you??" He turned to go towards her but remember he had a daughter to catch. Thankfully she saw the dark flutter mare as well and made a B-line for her instead of the rabbit. Letting out a sigh of relief he head down to where his friend was and ended up flopping in the shade beside her. "Ugh this heat is torture."
The filly had skidded to a halt when she'd heard someone call for her dad and almost thought it was her mom but noticed that it was a much darker mare. The mare must be friends with her dad! She quickly sprinted over to the flutter and had to skid to a halt again to avoid running into her. "Hi there! What's your name? You're a friend of daddy's huh?? I didn't know he had friends!" Her little tail wiggled happily as she danced on her hooves. Such an exciting day!

"Hehe yes yes I know, come rest in the heat." The mare then moved her wings so that she could fan Mel a bit. Flutter wings were very convenient for that sort of thing, so she was happy to help her friend while she could. Once she noticed he was getting comfortable and less-warm, she was going to finally ask him many questions. But her flow was interrupted when she noticed the adorable filly rush in front of her. "Well hello!" she then said.
There were many ways she could ask the question, but instead she decided to keep it casual. "Now who is this, Mel?" she then said, while bringing her soft eyes on the filly's. "My name is Porsche, what is your name little one? And yes I am friends with your father.. I'm sure he has lots of friends." It made her feel young again, and the little filly was too adorable to handle! She looked like Mel, but had some interesting colors on her.

Mel sighed happily at the soft breeze her wings made and peered out of one eye at the filly before sitting up a bit. "This is the one who will be the death of me because she will not stay in one place for five minutes. Also known as my daughter. Kahili, this is my good friend Porsche and Porsche this is my hyperactive daughter, Kahili." He tugged on her short blue tail and made her lay down between the two of them so she could still talk to her possibly new best friend and yet still rest for a while.
"Pooooorschhhhee. I've never heard a name like that before! My name's Kahili. I don't know if he has any friends besides you cause I haven't seen any. I bet they're hiding!" Kahili wiggled in place on the ground as she studied the mare she was speaking too. She had such cool looking wings but why did they look familiar? ...."You have wings just like a butterfly! That's so cool! I've seen lots of butterflies that were orange and yellow but not that color."

Ah, so Mel now had children? Time sure flied by day by day, and sometimes Porsche couldn't believe how easily things could change. "Wow how many children do you have, Mel?" she looked back at Kahili, and smiled widely. "Yeah, my name is kinda silly. And my mother looks like a butterfly, that's why I look like her! And my father is as dark as night, so that's why I look like him." she paused then, glanced at the filly's markings. "Just like you, there are specifics on you that make you look just like your dad! See what I mean?"
Porsche then brought her attention back to Mel, and she shook her head playfully. "Now now, you must fill me in! Who is the mother of these children? Family life.. that sounds so exciting and cute!" And to think, her friend was already a dad! "Has it been hard taking care of children? Heh, that is quite a task you are taking on, but it looks like you've done a great job so far." His daughter looked happy and healthy, and she was proud of him just for that.

"So your momma's a butterfly too?? Cool! I wish my momma was a butterfly then she could...well she could fly! But she doesn't have any wings just like daddy. My grandpa has really BIG wings though! Well that's what I heard. They're feathery though, not like butterfly wings." Kahili could go on and on about the little thins in life she'd experience so far but then she'd just end up going into a long winded ramble, which wouldn't be much fun for the listeners. "I don't think your name's silly though. I've heard sillier. Like daddy's! I can't even say his full name it's so long!"
Mel rolled his eyes with a smirk at his daughter and ruffled her mane a bit. "I have two. Two daughters, Kahili and Akehaso. Their mother is a friend of mine named Setsumi. She lives mainly in the forest and usually doesn't come out into the open unless I talk her into it. I mainly just take care of Kahili and that alone is difficult. Mainly because she won't sit still," he said as he tugged on the filly's ear. How could he tell her that family life wasn't exactly exciting when it was an accident? Surely he couldn't say that in front of his own child. Accident or not he loved the rambunctious filly even if she did wear him out everyday.

"Well, she's not actually a butterfly, but very close!" with a giggle, Porsche only smiled at the cute filly, before bringing her attention back on Mel. "Well, so far I can already tell how friendly your daughter is, so I am sure your other daughter is as well! Its good that she has a lot of energy, it keeps things exciting you know?" With a heavy nod, the mare then flipped her hair out of her eyes, before straightening herself out again.
"Aw, well it is nice that you met someone you could have children with! Do you two think you will have any more?" She could imagine Mel with some sons, and that thought was totally adorable. She then looked at Kahili and grinned playfully. "What would you think about having brothers? I have four brothers myself!" She was lucky enough to have one sister! "But I am only playing, you all seem like an adorable family! I am happy for you Mel."

Kahili giggled with Porsche and looked between her and her dad. "Brothers? I dunno. Are they fun to have? If so we should get some daddy!" She wiggled in place again and continued to look back and forth between the two of them. She didn't see her sister very often so maybe these brothers will hang out with her more and go exploring!
Mel just blinked and couldn't manage to do anything else but laugh a bit nervously. "Uh Kahili, sweetheart, why don't you go find your good friend Porsche something good to eat, hm?" he told her as she bounded off happily to go find something good to eat. He turned and pushed Porsche over with his muzzle and tugged on her mane playfully. "I'd appreciate you not giving her such thoughts as brothers, got it?" he said with a smirk as chewed on her hair. "You get a warning and then you get tickled. Honestly, I don't think her and I will have more since uh...Well the first batch wasn't exactly...expected." He glanced to her and then away as he dropped her hair. "They're both joys to have, don't get me wrong."

Porsche only blinked at Mel's response to her words, since she didn't understand that sort of aspect of family-making. "Unexpected? Oh.. I've never heard that before. Either way I am sorry." she bowed her head graciously, before bringing her eyes on Mel again. "Either way, it is nice that they still turned out to be joys, Kahili seems very very happy just in her youth. I'm sure they will both grow up with the same feelings too." He had two fine daughters off on their own, and that was cute to imagine too. "So where do you plan to take Kahili from here? Are you two just off exploring, and having father-daughter time as well?" She remembered wen she did that with her own dad, and she loved father daughter time! Although she was misunderstanding Mel's situation with the mare, she found Kahili's relationship with her father to be very natural and well-mannered.

Mel just smiled at her. "I'm not upset in the least. I'm...just not sure I'm doing the right thing. I haven't exactly had parent training and didn't get the chance to find some before they were born." He stared off into the distance, at nothing in particular and remembered back when Setsumi, moody as ever, told him the news. Turning back to her from his memory he just smiled and nodded again. "You could say that. I'm not really going anywhere in particular just wandering like I used to but with an added companion coming along for the ride. It's kinda nice, y'know. Not being alone anymore. But she'll leave sooner or later and I'll be back to where I was before. Being a lone wanderer."

Porsche also stared off, since she imagined the situation was tough alright. "Yeah but no one really gets parental training until it happens, so there is no need to worry yourself. You clearly are doing a great job, so you should be proud of yourself." He had to take things day by day and one step at a time, even if it wasn't as organized as he had planned! "Ah, having company like that would be great! I'm sure she feels the same way too. And when she does grow up, I think you will be ready as a parent. It may be hard at first, but its amazing to watch your own children grow up like that." Ah well, she had observed her own mother's reaction, and she knew it was an amazing feeling. "Yeah but being a lone wanderer is your thing you know! Now you have two girls too look for while your wandering." she giggled lightly, knowing that chance encounters happened all the time.

Mel pondered what she had said and figured she was right. Who was there to help his parents when he was born? Well okay she did have a kid before them but there was no one there with her when that happened and she did fine. He smiled at her and nodded. "Thanks Porsche. You must know what you're talking about seeing as you watched your little siblings grow up. How was that by the way? You were really excited about seeing them and helping take care of them." He couldn't imagine his parents having kids and then he help watch over his little brothers and sisters. It sounded weird to him. He laughed a bit and kinda shook his head at her. "Yeah for now I am but I don't know if I want to anymore. Right after I left my parents it was the coolest thing in the world and now trying to do it again without my little shadow following me it'll just get lonely. I don't know. Maybe I'll find some place to call home sooner or later."

At his question about her siblings, she could only smile widely. "They are doing great, thanks! Surprisingly they are all grown up already as well, so I guess time seriously flies. I had fun babysitting when they were little though, and now that we are all the same size, I am just off on my own again." Ah well, she had had fun when they were little, and now everyone was off on their own she supposed. "Anywhere is home really! I just depends what you make of it. I'm sure things will work out for you, just stay positive and see what happens with time, right?" she nodded her head lightly before moving herself into the shade some more. "I feel awful, your little one is running around in this heat. Hopefully she will be ok!"

"Well at least it was fun while it lasted, right? But don't tell me you're a wanderer too? You seem more like the one to stay at home with your family than be by yourself all the time." He nudged her lightly as his tail flopped around on the ground, trying its hardest to be a fan. "I don't know if I could call anywhere home. Home has to be comfortable, inviting. A place to have a family. A place I'd want to go to everyday and I'd still smile everytime I saw it no matter how many times I'd seen it before. But maybe my standards are a bit too high," he said with a chuckle. "Don't worry about Kahili. You're black as night and even though I'm a bit dark too she's light and honestly I don't think she notices the heat at all. She certainly doesn't complain about it. If it's too much for you maybe we can find a cool place to swim or something."
Off in the distance a small purple figure appeared once more as she pranced back to her dad and Porsche. Once back in the shade with them she dropped a mouth full of dandelions in front of them and wiggled her tail happily. "That's all I could find. There's not really anything good out there anyway." She settled herself between the two adults again and chewed on one of the dandelions for a bit. "These aren't even that good," she complained with a wrinkle of her nose.
