Just a note: We may move this later on to the new guild for RP. <3

A year had gone by now and it had seemed to pass so quickly but at the same time it had taken forever!

Carlos' home had literally caved in on everyone. In a normal house, this would have caused destruction and pain, maybe even death. It would have gone back up in mere months, assuming funding and construction crews were obtained in a timely fashion... But his home was literally a warp in space-time. Thank Mel for that one bit of insanity... But what it came down to was this: propping up the walls and re-opening their front door (let alone side doors and windows) had taken a great deal of work.

When Carlos was not working his fluffy tail off, he had spent the year silently worrying about Adrian. No surprise there, right? There was little consolation for him. He had Keahi to talk with though, actually. He had been worrying about someone too and envied the unicat's closeness with his boyfriend. Keahi couldn't even allow himself to hope that a certain someone even cared anymore...

But that was behind him, and while the unicat hoped his friend found happiness, all he could think of right now was seeing Adrian. As soon as he had known their home was more or less structurally sound, Jimi had literally kicked his butt outside. Go find him, he had said. The only place Carlos had ever seen Adrian had been at the shop, so that's where he was running now. Literally.

He tried not to think about what would happen, or if the rat still cared. He just wanted to see him. The rest would come.

(( I figure the only place this can start is the shop. We can have them go elsewhere after that. :3 Like they were once talking about how Carlos should visit Adrian's home. Or maybe the park, etc. ))

A year had gone by since Carlos was last seen and to say Adrian was a wreck would be an understatment.

Adrian, with Carlos' influence, was slowly getting hold of his temper and was learning to be slightly nicer, not a lot, but enough. But, as the year went by, without word from the unicat, he started to slip back into his old ways, becoming angry at the littlest things and getting into fights constantly. Even to the point where he almost killed a guy. It was bad.

The rat had figured that what happened with Carlos is the same thing that happened all those years ago...he thought Carlos abandoned him, like everyone else in his life. This time though, it hurt more, since he honestly cared for Carlos like he had never cared about anyone before.

Adrian was in a dark corner of the shop, which had basically become his home over the past year. He always came to the shop, hoping that Carlos would show up, but as time passed his hope grew less and less, to the point where it was almost non-exsistant. He was currantly nursing a broken wrist and black eye, from a fight he had gotten in earlier that day over something stupid. He missed Carlos, even though he would never admit it.

Carlos flew through the door, just barely coming to a stop several steps inside. He did not have a wild look in his eye (yeah right) as he stood with mildly thrashing tail, looking around the room. It took him a moment or two to catch his breath, and as a result of running all that way (as much of it as he could manage anyway, he had gotten a ride partway from a friend with wings), he was understandably flushed, sweaty, and disheveled.

His shoulders slumped. Because Adrian was in a dark corner, the unicat did not see him. But he was not deterred. He would camp out if he had to! He gave no thought to the smell of his clothes after a day or two without bathing...

The fact of the matter was he was not thinking ahead at all. So because of his immediate need for liquids, he strode off to the kitchen for something to drink. Adrian would come around here eventually; he gave no thought to the possibility that the rat may not be there.

Adrian growled when he heard someone enter, making a lot of noise. He didn't bother looking up from wraping his wrist, assuming it was one of the younger anthros running about making a rucus.

He finished with his wrist and decided he need a drink. The rat stood up and walked into the kitchen, intending to grab a beer and go back to his corner. Adrian wasn't paying attention to who else was in the kitchen, and frankly, he didn't really care. He shoved whoever it was out of the way of the fridge, "Move it, buddy," and grabbed a beer, not realizing that the unicat he had been missing for a year was the one standing there.

Adrian started to head out of the kitchen, since he didn't want to be around if any other anthros showed up.

Carlos hissed softly in annoyance, about to tell whoever the jerk was to wait his turn. Then he saw who it was and the condition he was in - was that wrist broken? - and stood motionless, staring. It was obvious Adrian had not recognized him. Or had he noticed, and he was merely joking? A joke? No. Had he noticed and was implying... No, he was simply being impersonal and grouchy.

"Well, um..." he mumbled. Leaning on the still-open refrigerator door, the unicat tried to think of something clever or dramatic to say as he watched Adrian's retreating back. But the rat was already almost out of the kitchen and his mind was completely blank. Impatiently, he stepped around the door and slammed it shut behind him, forgetting what he had been in there for in the first place. "Adrian!" Launching himself at the rat and wrapping his arms around his waist, Carlos didn't feel tired anymore. "I missed you so much..."

Adrian had just lifted the beer can to take a drink when Carlos launched himself on the rat, causing him to spill it everywhere. "WHAT THE HELL?" Adrian threw whoever it was off and spun around. "I WAS GOING TO..." The rat finally realized who 'attacked' him and immediatly felt a little bad. "..drink that...Carlos?"

Adrian couldn't believe his eyes. Was Carlos really there in front of him? And what was the unicat thinking, just showing back up in his life after a year of nothing. He glared at the unicat. "What? Got tired of being with whoever else you were with and decided to come back? Huh?!" The rat didn't care that he missed Carlos or that there was probably a good reason why his boyfriend disappeared, but he was too angry to give a damn.

Oh... the beer... Carlos had not actually noticed the telltale sound of the beer can opening. Now that he thought about it... Chuckling sheepishly, the unicat ran his fingers through his hair, rubbing his head. But of course he was splattered with beer and now his hair was streaked with it, and he realized that he was now sprawled on his butt on the floor. "This isn't going like I had hoped..."

Was he expecting sunshine and rainbows? Not exactly. Not with Adrian. But he was finally free and only one word had been running through his head, the name of his boyfriend. So that really didn't matter.

A little dazed, maybe he had hit his head on that cabinet back there, he rose to his feet with a little help from the counter-top and looked around for a towel or something to clean up the mess. "Well yeah... would you want to be stuck for a year with my dad, 24/7..?" Well, maybe he would... Adrian and Jimi had seemed to get along that first time.

Where the hell were the towels? He just wanted to be held by Adrian. This wasn't going right at all. "I don't remember where they keep the towels..."

Adrian continued glaring at Carlos. "Yeah, and how'd you think it would go, huh? You just come back after leaving me alone for a YEAR and everything would be like it was before?! Do you have any idea about what hell I went through this past year?!" Adrian stopped himself before he let anything...revealing come out.

"You were with your dad? You really expect me to believe that? You frickin' disappeared!" The rat paused for a moment. "You know what, I don't even know why I wasted my time with you, you're just like everyone else that exsisted in my messed up life!" Adrian stormed out of the kitchen and back to his corner.

"Heh..." Right... that's what was missing. Adrian flying off the handle for... well, it probably could not be called 'no reason,' this time. But not explaining, or waiting for an explanation, that was completely in character.

What had Adrian been through? It had probably been worse for him than Carlos, but only because he had those close enough he could call family. Maybe even those bruises were on account of him? No... there was no sense in assuming such things. Adrian had been picking fights long before they had met.

He had to wonder if Adrian had even noticed that not only had Carlos not been around, but neither had Jimi, or anyone else they lived with. Imagine being stuck in a house not only with his ill-tempered father, but Sian, Shelby, Keru, Amrit... any of those guys. They had all been there, including several pining vampires.

A shiver ran up his spine as he grabbed a roll of paper towels and started cleaning up Adrian's - no, in all fairness, his - mess. As he finished and went to the sink to wash his hands his eyes were burning. But he was used to holding back the tears by now. If he let them come, they would never stop falling. Dad, did you treat Mom like this? He knew how difficult it had been for Jimi to open up at all to Haruna; he had not heard much from either parent, but others had been more than willing to share. At least with his parents, it had been obvious they cared for each other. Right? Adrian didn't even seem to care enough to find out what had happened to him...

Adrian sunk down in his corner. The rat was pissed off at not only the fact that Carlos just appeared after a year, but that the unicat hurt him and hadn't even realized just how much. Yes, Adrian was an angry, sometimes evil, rat, but he had feelings too, just because he doesn't show them well, doesn't mean they don't exsist. 'He must not care too much if he thinks that everything will be the way it was a year ago, that we can just pick up where we left off. He doesn't know me very well if he thinks that.'

'But he must care a little, he came back,' said a voice of reason in his head.

'Shut up, he doesn't care, no one can care about an angry-all-the-time rat, like me.'

'But no ones ever come back before, isn't that a sign that maybe he is different than the others? That he does care about you?'

'SHUT UP!' Adrian covered his ears, even though he knows that wouldn't stop him from hearing his inner voice, but who cares!

'There could be a good reason why he was gone so long, ever think of that? And do you think Carlos would want to risk another hellish fight by not writing or calling or seeing you for a year if he could?'

'How would I know? The kid probably got scared and ran, like everyone else!'

'Do you really want to piss off Carlos' dad by not listening to an explantion and just hurting the kid?'

Adrian snorted, but he knew it was true. If Jimi found out that Adrian had hurt his son, then there would be hell to pay. "SHUT UP YOU STUPID VOICE," he screamed out loud. The voice finally shut up, knowing that it's done it's job, though it may take a little while for it's words to sink in.

Carlos froze, tail fluffed up to about twice its normal size. What... was that Adrian? He spun around, half expecting the rat to be standing there scowling at him but he was not even in the room, of course. If it was not Carlos, who was he yelling at? Curiously, the unicat went into the other room and looked around. Instead of finding the scene of some sort of fight... it looked like there was no one there, not even Adrian. Whoever it was must have retreated in a hurry.

If Carlos was smart he probably should be leaving too... But he did not know where Adrian was and he was not going to hide. It made sense that Adrian would be angry about all this. Carlos had to somehow find a way to resolve things between them though he had no idea where to start. The rat was gone and probably would not want to hear anything he had to say. Was there a point in staying?

To leave would trivialize everything from the past year. He had to stay. He also needed something to drink... so he went back into the kitchen long enough to grab some water and a beer, just in case Adrian decided to come back. He closed the fridge again and stepped out into the main room. He found an old couch that had a lot of memories attached to it. This was the one that they, for whatever reason, used to sit on together. He set the beer on an end table and flopped down where the rat used to sit, with a sigh, and opened up the water bottle.

Adrian looked up when Carlos walked into the room and realized he must have said that last part out loud. 'Dammit, stupid inner voice making me angry enough to say things outloud.'

He sighed and watched as the unicat walked back into the kitchen and came back out carrying water and...a beer? 'Is he trying to make me come out or something?' He watched Carlos sit down on the couch they always sit on. 'Why did we always sit on that couch?'

The rat shook his head to clear it of those, in his opinion, stupid thoughts. "Stupid unicat, making everything so sappy," he grumbled and continued watching Carlos from the corner, wondering what the other was waiting for.

The water was half gone before the unicat stopped for air. He must have been pretty thirsty, he realized as he looked at it with an upturned brow. But now his stomach was starting to turn, probably because otherwise it was empty.

As Carlos curled up with his tail wrapped around his feet, someone else came into the shop. No sounds of breaking objects or yelling, and in fact no sounds at all greeted him as he strode in. But fancy that, there was a familiar someone seated on a familiar couch.

"Hey." Hoof-tipped fingers clamped down on the unicat's shoulder as Jimi stopped his approach and stood over him.

"Murr." Carlos glanced up at him with his ears flattened back. He obviously was not very happy, but attempted a smile. "Hi, Dad."

"Looks like things went great," Jimi muttered with an ironic smirk and sat down next to him. No invitation, no permission. "Oh hey, a beer. You must have known I was coming." His grin widened as he reached across the unicat to grab the beer and open it.

Carlos shifted uncomfortably. He knew what Jimi was doing, but he was not sure he wanted him here if Adrian came back. "Well. We'll work it out, I'm sure."

"Of course." Nothing in his tone indicated whether he was actually agreeing or being pessimistic. Probably the latter. He would never tell. The unicorn's tail flicked lightly as he downed the beer with a satisfied sigh. That really hit the spot. "Just keep in mind that it wasn't your fault that you were gone. Heh, not every day someone's house... Hey, if he doesn't believe you, just bring him by the house," Jimi snickered.

Carlos' eyes widened. "Really? I mean, we talked about going to his place sometime, but I didn't think he'd ever want to come to our place."

"Who'd want to?" Jimi grinned. "No seriously. I don't suppose you ever asked if he wanted to?"

"Well, no... I figured he wouldn't want to... it looks pretty normal from the outside, but... And he doesn't like people, but the place is always busy..." The unicat looked at his water bottle doubtfully. His stomach had settled so he unscrewed the cap and took another swig. When he was done, he sighed. All of his reasons seemed like excuses. No wonder Adrian couldn't stand him.

"So ask him. Then bring him anyway and show him the inside. He doesn't have to meet everyone either, you know." Jimi watched him quietly. "You going to want me to stick around?"

"I don't know..." Carlos did not make eye contact but fidgeted with the water bottle instead.

Jimi wanted to say something inspirational and sappy to help him feel better. Something like, if it's meant to be, it will work out. Or, if he gives a damn he'll come around. That probably wouldn't help...

He finished the beer and rose to his feet. "All right. Well you give me a ring if you need anything."

"Okay..."

"Good." Jimi followed a similar path to the one his son had a short time ago. Into the kitchen, over to the fridge for a beer, the garbage for the empty can, then back out into the main room. The unopened can found its way to the end table from before. "This was Adrian's wasn't it?" he stated more than asked as he walked by. "I'll see you later." Glancing over his shoulder he called out, "Oh and Adrian... don't forget our little promise."

Carlos jumped to his feet, all fluffed up again. "What?!" He was here the whole time? Where was he? The unicat's eyes scanned the room.

Adrian stiffened slightly when Jimi walked into the shop. He wasn't expecting to see his boyfriends dad, well, he was hoping at least that he wouldn't see the older unicorn. Adrian recognized a fellow evil b*****d when he saw one.

'What happened with his house?' The rat shook his head. 'It's probably some stupid excuse as to why Carlos wasn't around.'

The rat jumped when Jimi addressed him. He should have known that the older unicorn would know he was still there, even if his son didn't notice. "I haven't forgotten it, Jimi," he said coming just far enough out of the corner to be seen.

"Good, everything's all set then." Jimi snickered as he left.

"Er..." Carlos followed the sound of Adrian's voice and turned to face him. Now that he was actually thinking, the rat looked worse than he had thought. He had a black eye for one. "So... um... I brought you out a beer, since I made you spill the other one..."
