Of course three bottles of wine was the perfect way to pass the evening once you'd just pulled into port. Three bottles of cheap wine, very very cheap wine, but wine none the less. It got you drunk and that was really the way Alec liked to be for the most part, honestly he couldn't remember this many years down the line why he liked it, but he did, so he went with it.
He was currently flaked out on his back on the deck, he'd been trodden on twice, fallen over at least four times and kicked god knows how many... but he was drunk and therefor he was happy. That was all that mattered.
Suddenly it occured to him.. Jonik had gone ashore... with money.. to get money... how long ago he really had no idea.. but it was dark now and he had a feeling that it had still been light when he'd heard someone mutter about the damn quatermasters damn gambling habbits before almost stepping on Alec's face... it was possible he'd missheard though, who knew..?
All he did know was that the tiny man was going to get himself in trouble one of these days, and it was up to him, Alec the amazing to go and save his skin!
With a slight stumble he dragged himself to his feet and stumbing awkwardly down the gangplank with a yell of,
"I'LL SAVE YOU LITTLE MAN!"

It had all been going well....too well.
The quartermaster had an instinct for these things. Dice, cards, cockfights, whatever, he could almost see the odds form instantly in his mind, showing him the winner. There was no luck, only numbers. Sadly, years of pirating had left him with something of a problem. To the extent that any salary he received for himself was gambled away until nothing remained. Even brilliant people lost sometimes.
Today his game was some sort of local poker variant, unique to the island. His 'new friends' had explained it with a glee that can only come from cheating a youngster out of his money, but to their astonishment the lad had picked up the game as if he had been playing in the cradle.
He had somehow managed to triple the ships money after a few rounds and was hoping to call it a night when a cry rose up from the table "The little sod's counting cards!" and the adolescent pirate took that as his cue to flee. Bloody rude really, noone liked a sore loser...

No sooner had Alec arrived on the scene that Jonik's luck seemed to have taken a turn for the worst, he heared the yell and even saw his friend come running towards him, but he was to stonkingly drunk at that point that there path. was nothing he could do, and he ended up standing right in the small pirates way, well... by standing I mean running, and in the way I mean right towards him with not a hope in hell of stopping...
Just before the collision Alec was able to garble out some weird collections of letters that sounded slightly like "Glarophragleharblehrooo!" but only slghtly, before they crashed straight into each other and the slightly slippery ground took Alec's legs out from under him and he ended up flat on his back.
As quickly as he could, for there were obviously going to be angry gamblers after them both now he got back, even more unsteadily before to his feet and scrabbled around trying to drag Jonik back up as well

Jonik was in a crumpled heap on the floor, terrified that another gigantic and very unclean gambler had caught him. A friend of his fellow players perhaps?
Then the familiar smell of chateau de barelle met his nostrils and the little pirate found himself being dragged off, by the far less menacing but equally dangerous navigator.
Thank the stars, if the gin soaked map reader kept his balance they might just have a chance to run away. And six against two was slightly more encouraging than six against one. Jonik spead up his pace, reinforcement or not, running away like cowardly dogs was their most useful skill today.

Not only was running their most useful skill, it was definately the one they were most practised at as well. For the most fearsome crew of pirates on the sea they were certainly really fast when they needed to be.
"KEEP RUNNING LITTLE MAN!" Jokin yelled in the vague direction that he thought Jonik was, then realised that he was yelling more or less at his own feet and looked up again, narrowly avoiding running straight into a wall, he saved hismelf with a series of very inelegant spins, two awesome stumbles and a flail filled jump over a low trough.
It worked though.
"TO THE LEFT!" He yelled, running instantly down an alley to the right, "This left! THIS LEFT I SAID!"

"Oh, you mean your left." Jonik shouted breathlessly a few steps behind him. Lord, it was good to be sprinting again, but he was out of practise. He only hoped that the navigators complete lack of any sense of direction brought about by the demon drink, didn't leave to get shanked in some dead end street somewhere.
Thankfully he was small and quite good at scrabbling over walls. "I hope you know where you're going, Alec!"

"Its EASY!" He yelled back, veering wildly to the left this time, "WE'RE GOING AWAY FROM THEM!" they were doing quite well at it as well, Alec had drunkenly perfected the same technique applied quite skilfully by the fluffy bunny rabbit. Running wildly around in a zigzagging fashion was a great way to lose a pursuer. Especially if they happened to be a fox, but it worked just as well on angry gamblers it seemed. "We'll be better off inland!" He called back, "THERE ARE SWAMPS!" He veered wildly again, "EVERYONE KNOWS GAMBLERS HATE SWAMPS!" It was easy to lose your tokens in them..

"BUT YOU CAN GET MALARIA IN SWAMPS!" yelled Jonik, his friends tactics may have been drunken and insane but they were quickly giving the angry gamblers the slip. "And there's aligators and bitey things!" Still the swamp was a good place to hide, and it need only be for a little while, and then they could slink back onto the ship to drop off the winnings he had maybe not so honestly gained for the ship. Then maybe make some food lists for their journey to this forbidden island..if it indeed existed. The young pirate followed on regardless, since he didn't have a better plan.

The whole island was more or less one large port town surrounded by swamp, so it really didn't take the piratical pair long to get to their destination, much to the chagrin and fear of their pursuing gamblers. Swamps were not the gamblers friend. They were however the friend of a cheating pirate and his drunk crony.
"Right.." Alec stated, stopping to stand on a rather wobbly log that bridged the gap between two slightly squelch swamp islands that appeared to be floating, "I think this'll do nicely... shall we have a drink..?" He grinned at the younger elf.

Jonik almost collapsed again with exhaustion. But to their amazing good fortune they had actually managed to escape his new enemies. It was just like old times really. Cheating old ladies out of their Jewelry at the goblin king's parties just didn't have the excitement of nearly getting murdered over a card game. "Thanks, I think I need one after that..." he replied. "Sure was fun though, I even got a few gold coins out of them as well." Oh yes, it was totally worth it.

"Probably more gold than the ship's seen in a month or so.." Alec stated with a grin, holding out a bottle to the younger elf, "Its not bad wine really this one, stolen, sure, but not bad.. certainly better than that nasty a** 'Vodkat' I stole last time... that really didn't agree with me.." he mumbled for a moment, loosing thoughtfully at his other hand as if he'd lost something before remembering he'd given the bottle to Jonik... "Think the most recent map is going to do us any good if I can read it..?" he asked thoughtfully, "It would be nice to be paid, I'd still steal things mind, but pay would still be nice..." his words were slightly slurred.

Jonik took a swig thoughtfully. "Who knows, there's been rumours of an island. We might come across one, and if it's not the one the Captain meant, then we'll just pillage it like we always do and head for the hills. We certainly need a break this time. Get some things that are actually worth something." He passed the bottle back, knowing that his friend would probably need another drink fairly soon.

Alec took the bottle back greatfully, taking another swig himself, wrinkling his nose thoughtfully, "Yeah.. the last few times all we've left with is tat and another sprog for our esteemed captain.. I mean really.. there have been times where I thought we were never going to see the end of the child support.." He chuckled, "Man.. it does make me glad that I've never had kids.."

Jonik laughed at the comment. "Well drink causes impotence, so you're definitely going the right way about it." he smiled "The captain's not too bad though. I sometimes think he mistakes me for one of his numerous brood...and sometimes a tavern wench named Gertrude, but that's another story. I'd rather be poor and enjoy myself, than be poor and get worked to death by the navy."

Alec grinned, "Safe then! I'd be a horrible dad, but you're right, he's a good man really, too good to be a pirate honestly, its why we have next to no money, bloody useless really, but oh well.." he shook his head, "Honestly, I don't want to know why he mistakes you for Gerty.. unless you back on the pounds solely on your chest from one night to the next..." he grinned, taking another swig before offering the bottle back." he pushed his silvery hair back out of his face, "So.. we're in a swamp.. what shall we do?"
