Before I begin my spoiler/rant filled topic, I am NOT going to use white text to hide spoilers. If you don't want spoilers, don't read any further.
So, the tenth doctor has started a regeneration, but Tennant has been confirmed for Xmas '08 and the '09 specials.
One THEORY that me, my girlfriend and my friend have come up with between us is that the Doctor's hand interferes withthe regeneration, causing the Doctor's body to heal completely, causing the regeneration to stop. But the excessenergy from the Doctor's ceased regeneration is absorbed by the hand, which then regenerates in a similar way, creating the rumoured "second" doctor for Journey's End.
This new Doctor would have all of the original's memories and personality quirks of the original, but either the clone or the Doctor would have a full cycle of regenerations, which would coincide with RTD's love of reset buttons, and provide Steven Moffat with a nigh-on fresh canvas, which would be nice, if a bit of a cheat.
It's obvious that the 'older' Doctor would end up with the whiny little girl, Rose, the one who indirectly caused both of the Doctor's regenerations.
I don't agree with this ending. in TL, she was strong, calm, focused, she was down-right Doctor-like in the way she was guiding Donna, but in tSE she has reverted back to her whiny, piney, spoilt-little-chav-b***h self. When the subwave network is communicating before calling the Doctor, she is constantly bitching about not being involved. Sorry Rose, in this Universe you are OFFICIALLY DEAD so Harriet wouldn't expect you to be around, and did you REALLY expect the Doctor to travel alone?
Also, when Mr Smith, Torchwood and MArtha set the plan into motion, she looks into the air and says "Find me Doctor. Find me." not "Help us Doctor".
All in all, the Rose from early season two, when she met Sarah Jane is back, and worse than before. I can only pray that she is the one prophecised by Caan. Even though the most likely outcome is that he is referring to Donna.
So, to sum up
The Hand and Doctor regenerate into two identical doctors
One of whom has a full 13 lives again, the other goes off with Rose.
EDIT: One thing no one here has thought of:
Assuming the ambiguous theories of a 'Botched Regeneration' are plausible, we could be seeing an early version of the Valeyard. In The Trial Of A Time Lord, the Valeyard is seen as an incarnation of the potentially evil side of the Doctor between the twelfth and thirteenth regenerations. Though a couple of regenerations early, the "Osterhagen key" roughly translates as 'graveyard' or 'boneyard' (insults that the Sixth Doctor used against the Valeyard in 'The Trial of a Time Lord').
Just read that on Doctor Who wiki, nice thought, I think.

I actually really REALLY like this theory. The idea of two Doctors in one room (Both identical) Makes me go 'squee!!' I was totally wondering about the Christmas specials too! D:
I was in an utter confused mode.
But I honestly really like this theory.

[I dunno about that theory - it's interesting, but from the way things are going, I think it is gonna be (or should be) bigger than that] [And, personally, I think Rose is acting just like she did all season 2 - whiny, bratty and totally OOC in comparison with season 1 ):]

I like that theory
I love how you also hate Rose, and how awful she is.
Maybe one of the Doctor's will go and shag her in her Universe when everything is finished idk

Shangrii-La I like that theory I love how you also hate Rose, and how awful she is. Maybe one of the Doctor's will go and shag her in her Universe when everything is finished idk Yeah but I dont want that to happen. D: Simply because, well, Rose honestly isnt that cool, and even if there were two Doctors, no matter what the second Doctor will always travel through time. Remember, he cant settle down. I guess if he explores time and space with her, I could put up with it. But its still ew... D: I cant see any form of the doctor settling down with anyone, its just... doesnt feel right to me. ^^;

I like your theory. Now, don't get me wrong- I understand that a lot of people do not like Miss Rose Tyler. But the Subwave network sought out all the Doctor's old companions- which in turn sought out Rose. Otherwise? She wouldn't have even gotten the transmission in the first place, I could understand that Rose was frustrated- there the Doctor's friends were and she couldn't get into contact with any of them. That and when the Martha popped up? That must've been a blow to the stomach. She doesn't even know that Martha was a companion- where as she did with Donna. And I honestly don't think that she was nearly as bad as Martha.
Rose at least kept the fact that she liked the Doctor in a more then just friendly way mostly to herself. Of course she had bouts of jealousy- but what normal woman doesn't? She was just a normal everyday girl before the Doctor came into her life- one must remember that.
Rose, knows more about what is happening then anyone- remember that. She may have been asking the Doctor to find her so that she can tell him all that she knows.
All in all? Rose Tyler just shows us a typical woman who's been through more then we could imagine. So does Martha. So do all the companions. Except Jack, Jack's just... Jack?

I like your theory better then the one I had came up with. I was starting to wonder why they were using the old dream stand by which looked highly probable.
